Night mode on the 12 Pro Max may have occurred when you zoom in even further. On my Android phone, it tries to use the main sensor when too dark or if you are too close for the telephoto lens. But after a certain a mount of zoom it will force the telephoto lens to be used anyway. Or use manual mode :)
Can you prevent Video background blur on the iphone 13 pro/max? I prefer fixed focus for the entire video most times, bigger censors make this difficult. Someone said they prefer the 12 promax because it doesn’t blur the background as much, us this true? Thanks 🙏
Hoping the flare is reduced on the 13pro. Had so many flare issues on the 12 PM. Ruined a lot of pics. Thanks for the videos.
Anyway to compare nighttime action video. The only reason I would need to upgrade is if this is superior. I video HS football from the sidelines under the lights. My 12pro max does amazing… but would the 13pro max be way better?

My 12 pro max takes outstanding photos; it would never darkened a persons face like that
It used to with mine, I upgraded to 13 PM and HDR 4 is real. Man the highlight and shadow control is night and day and lens flair issue has been pretty much ironed out.
I found camera to be a huge upgrade over 12 PM overall (HDR, Ultra-wide, macro & low light specifically).
If you care about cameras, definitely it’s one of the biggest iPhone jump generation to generation which I have seen! That was my experience with it so far.

@@juanmm9297 yeah I understand, I got a buyer who was offering me nice money for 12 PM, so upgraded just for 120hz (my iPad had spoiled me u can say). I was not even expecting such a big jump in camera over 12 PM tbh, but it was kinnda a surprise to me, and yeah the battery too! So I’m super happy I did upgrade. Cheers

My 8 Plus' battery is going out and I'm looking at upgrade options. I just can't get over the pricing of 12 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max. I like the large form factor, it feels comfortable in my big hands, but the price is just killer. I was thinking maybe just replacing the battery could do the job, albeit losing the water resistance. 8 Plus has a decent enough camera for my needs. When I compare photo quality in iphones since 8 Plus, I don't think even the 13 non-pro models have as nice pics coming out of them as the 8 Plus does. The Pro Max series seems to be the only upgrade path for me and I'm just not over the pricing yet :/

Last night (it’s 4:30 am here in Paris) I spoke over the phone with my good friend David.
He doesn’t want to be introduced as a professional photographer, as his major activity - and the only activity he gets his income from - has nothing to with taking pictures.
I always tell him that I respect that but I do know his skills in photography are way beyond amateur.
Anyway.
When I spoke with him he was super excited about the iPhone 13 news focals, and kept telling me : “Stef, you just can’t imagine how the news built-in photographic system is wayyyy superior to the former model”.
So, as you wrote, people with specific needs like David (+, needless to say but who obviously can afford the new iPhone) will never :
- ask themselves : “Should I really buy it” !
- spend the rest of the year cursing the day they switched to this 13th edition 😅

Hi, at 9:15, zoom lens information seems wrong. iPhone 12 pro max has 2.5x zoom with f2.2 and iPhone 13 pro max has 3.0x zoom with f2.8.

No, in real life you will hate iphone 12 because i had experienced that. Iphone 12 makes our face looks really bright and edited. No natural looking at all at iphone 12 series. I hate iphone 12 camera for photos but still great for videos
Very interesting about night mode for telephoto. On first glance the 12 Pro Max was brighter but I didn’t realise it is the standard wide lens digitally cropped. I’m still disappointed that the aperture couldn’t stay the same. Going from 2.2 to 2.8 for me is a sacrifice.
Of course; they would need to make a longer, wider lens to keep the lower aperture.
Why pay more if you cant see the difference that much? Let’s just wait for the pixel 6 pro instead

Not much better .and in some pics the 12s look better . To make it even all you gotta do is do a few touch ups like vibrance, contrast etc and it’ll be par with the 13 . Only place the 12 ain’t touching the 13 is in macro shots

In a periscope format yes. In standard format, I don't think I've seen more than 3x zoom.
I guess Apple doesn't want to use the space for periscope or they think it's not ready for what they want to use it for

you need to manually increase how many seconds to take night mode photo's to see the difference..because at default it only take 3s or 4s thats why isn't much different from 12 pro max..but if manually put 10s on night mode shots in 13 pro max it will destroy all night mode kings because it is so bright and detailed

Idk, there are some great phones out there eg Vivo x70 pro plus that can give stunning night mode shots (and without Apple's over exposed light problem)

Fact Check, Apple has upgraded their image sensor every single phone upgrade. Just because the sensors “specs” themselves doesn’t change is only 1/5 things they can upgrade. The light sensor can be bigger, the light sensor can be smaller but more efficient, the light sensor can utilize new light Technologies like from 8to X, the sensor can have more MP, Bigger Aperture, Focal Length, Depth of Lens, Positioning, type of glass, color processing unit, and of course the upgrades to the processor directly effect the upgrade to the camera itself and how it functions as well as the world class CPU, as well as the little changes they make like the transitions from one camera to another through positioning/mechanical zoom. So yeah, they don’t just leave the same 12MP camera over and over again.

Nothing much of a difference.
There’s a huge difference in real life,I upgraded from 12 PM to 13 PM and difference is one the biggest camera jumps generation over generation which I have seen on iPhones. I mean all cameras are upgraded hugely, but specially the ultra-wide! It’s actually pretty awesome now (never liked it on my 12 tbh, so used it very less). Also additions of new features like macro, better zoom with night mode, cinematic mode and picture styles, it’s most fun iPhone camera I have used in years. Seriously if u care about camera, display and battery life, 12 to 13 PM is a huge jump (just looks are same, it’s a new experience if u go in-depth)!

It's NOT zoom but rather *telephoto.* The iPhone 13 Pro has a wide, an ultra-wide and a telephoto lens.
Why is that so hard for some people to understand?
Wide-angle zoom lens are a thing too and have _nothing_ to do with telephoto.
It's literally just splitting hairs between these two, personal preference could lean towards the 12 Pro Max quite easily. Quite funny, seeing how all tech youtubers are lording the new cameras on the 13 PM

Zoom zoom in the room, what that’s mean?
I keep hearing reviewers of the 13 pro/pro max say that the buttons (volume & lock) on the 13 pro/pro max are lower than they are on the 12 pro/pro max.
This is certainly not the case with my 13/12 pro max’s. The buttons on my 13 pro max are slightly higher up on the phone than they are on my 12 pro max. What gives?!
They are lower on some of the new phones, and higher on others
I like the 12 Pro Max photos better though the the pictures look brighter 💯 I don’t like dark photos

Things that made me sad:
1.) It takes a month or two before new iphones are available in the PH
2.) My iphone 12 pro max’s battery life is so bad after the 14.6 and above updates. ios15 “kinda” improved it, but even with medium use, the battery doesn’t last me a full day like it used to. My battery health is 91% just for 11 months of use.
That’s why the iphone 13 pro max is so tempting because of the bigger battery and better cameras. Always loved your content Josh! Blue is also my fav color! 😂 also grew up watching Voltron!
Same, my batter cp is at 87% but I decided to replace my batter when it’s below 80% and buy the iPhone 14 pro max when it comes out.
Yea your iPhone battery sounds defective. Unless you use your phone 20 hours a day 7 days a week there is no reason your battery health should be less than 95%. Ive had my 12 pro max since November 2020 and I’m still sitting at 97% health and I’m averaging 6 hours of screen time each day.
13 Pro much better no doubt. The sensors just capture way more detail.

Let's be honest. All Apple had to do was sent an HDR software update to the older iPhones. But in true Apple fashion, they made it an exclusive iPhone 13 feature to get you to spend more money.
