I (Vadim) took the new iPhone 13 Pro Max and the S21 Ultra home over the weekend and I took a BUNCH of photos with each of them and I put them all together in a video timeline.
Max & Angelika have never seen any of these photos, so they have no idea which photo was taken by which smartphone, so that makes this the MOST UNBIASED camera comparison possible!
I took shots with every single lens from the selfie camera, to the main wide shooter, the ultrawide lens and some zoom shots as well.
I also tested Portrait shots, Night Mode shots and even Night Mode portrait shots to see which smartphone camera is the BEST in 2021!

Hi
I was shoked
I think the Iphone 13 pro max had the upper hand since most photos there were potrait photos. Else....this cameras are neck and neck. I love how Mrwhosetheboss or Supersaf did different categories to find out the strengths of each camera. Add variety maybe like more landscapes and stuff. Coz generally, iphones are great with potrait photos hence the win. Otherwise....both great cameras..one can never go wrong with any.
@@brianwabai3967 their previous comparisons are great. They really are unbiased but I agree. Too many portait shots. Score would have been different. Apple did a great job this year though with the camera. This is what the 12 pro max should have been. Apple again catching up to android. Until the s22 comes out
Maybe need use 21 ultra use chipset exynos, because has diffrent photo.too

Mhm very true
Yes, but it also makes it blurry often. Hand holding steady for 10 seconds is tough.
@@nickmotsarsky4382 rely on the sensor shift, train your hand, reduce it to around 5-7 seconds instead

@@whitemailprivilege2830 I don't. Why post such an asinine comment?
Nice video. In most portrait mode photos, Samsung lost because the blur effect was very exaggerated, but remember that in the S21 Ultra you can adjust it so that it is not so exaggerated, I think that is an important factor to consider.
This is a huge point because it pretty much encapsulates the differences between Samsung and apple. Apple focuses more on a "it just works" point and shoot mindset, whereas Samsung can produce great quality shots too, but you just have to have a better grasp on how to use the software.
You can also adjust the blur on the iphone.
I got 18 for the S21 ultra and 12 for the iPhone. Guess it's all up to personal preference.

@@MaxTechOfficial nice I have been waiting for it since the day you said it will be released later. There are very few videos on the internet testing this. Even if I can find on, it doesn’t give he information I need to judge whether if it is good enough or not.
Hm i have a tree between me and my 5g antanna. So only LTE for me.
@@MaxTechOfficial Please do a prolonged test. I have a 12 Pro Max and I use the 5G tethering to download and upload large files but when I use 5G my phone gets too hot to the point 5G gets disabled and reverts to LTE. I can’t believe a single youtuber didn’t mention this in their review. I’d like to know if the 13 does this as well. If it doesn’t I will switch becuase the only workaround is putting metal on my phone which absorbs the heat before it slows down.
I find comparing some of those photos to be somehow difficult. There are more factors than “camera quality”. The spot used for measurement/focus (selected either manually or automatically) will create much different results, especially for light/contrast. The processing AI will then potentially react differently and increase differences.
This happens even when shooting multiple fotos with the exact same device…

Too many portrait shots. Try out the s21 ultra and you will realise the iPhone is useless in many scenarios thanks to s21u 10x zoom.
how often would you use the 10x zoom? many people don't zoom in far enough for that to be an issue, and most people that I know that take photos default to using portrait mode or normal non-zoomed mode
@@norbertmayer7005 yes samsung may won with the best zoom …but the iphone won the photo and video quality ….also night mode photo is alot better on the iphone ..the colors are poppy and more vibrant which is most people want compared to samsung makes the photo flat sometimes and video quality sucks

@@jyrvietamarra5488 iPhone won the video. Pictures, it did not win at all. In most cases, the Samsung is the best picture-taking device. Couple of questions for you, Vadim, regarding the photographer on these tests. 1.) Are the shots presented in the video we see ALL of the shots you took with both cameras? That's important to know to make sure there's no subconscious bias in the selection of the photos. And 2.) Do you have a rule for only being able to take the shot once? Meaning, if one phone doesn't get the shot right on the first try and the other phone does, do you leave it be, or do you retake the shot with the second phone?
Love these comparisons! Great video as always.
lol and they only COMPAREd potrait shots like most of them are potrait
that why i dont trust only one channel lol they are really doing potrait shots and iphone nailed it this time but why only potrai6
Nice comparison! My wife just got her 13 Pro today. She’ll definitely be happy with the improvements compared to her 8 plus that the 13 Pro is still copying all the data from.
Not a fan how a bunch of pictures were taken at different times and/or angles. It makes the comparisons unfair in some of the examples. Such as the portrait when he hair was straight for the iPhone but frizzy for s20. And the steering wheel photos were taken at different points of the road. That entirely changes the dynamics of a scene
Great video. I love how these comparisons are so real-world. Seems in the one 3x shot that the iphone turned to mush it may have somehow stepped the lens back down and used a digital zoom without triggering the optical zoom. I wonder if that could have been repeated to verify it wasn't an isolated misfire.
Apple absolutely killed it with the portrait mode this year. I also prefer the 3x zoom pictures compared to the Ultra. So much better dynamic range and colors. That said the ultrawide is seriously disappointing. Ultrawide shots on the iphone are completely lifeless with poor dynamic range and softness...Android flagships are leagues ahead of Apple when it comes to ultrawide cameras.
I like the portrait on S21U more looks more natural

Very underrated channel on UA-cam, no bs pure comparison, you guys deserve more sub
😬😬😬
How’s its underrated???
It's BS comparison considering the scenarios they used. Do you really think the general public is doing a heap of portrait shots? The comparison is geared towards the iPhone. The 10x zoom camera destroys the iPhone and gives you reason to ditch your dedicated camera. Yet they only had one 10x shot. Apple lovers.
@@norbertmayer7005 Ok, the 10x zoom camera destroys the iPhone, but does the Samsung's 3x, telephoto, portrait and ultrawide camera destroys the iPhone? I dont think so. Those are 4 modes better on the iPhone compared to only one on the Samsung. So why should i buy the Samsung only for the 10x camera?
@@s4lvin989 I've seen bad pics from the 3x tele on both the S21U and iPhone 13PM so the difference is negligible. And the ultrawide camera on the S21U is miles ahead of Apples, what are you talking about? This comparison was clearly meant for Apple to win, over 30% of the pictures taken was portraits, n they KNEW the portrait mode is better on the iPhone while shooting..... Unbiased camera comparisons need to be split into different categories, with each category having the right amount of photos, not just one photo for one category then 10+ for the next, completely biased comparison here.

Although I know it’s very hard to do it, but for shots that involve humans or animals, next time, please make sure that both phones captured the scenes at the same time. Or at least, when the subjects are doing the same exact pose.
Because shots like the one on 3:20 is so unfair to compare as the subject herself was not doing the exact same pose and her hair wasn’t at the same position as the other shot. That’s because there’s a few strands of hair being blurred, as seen in the second photo.

Clearly Bias,
1, The picture from Samsung is far Superior in not only quality but it definition. You can clearly see the Iphone is blurred in many spots
2, The flare on the s21 doesnt make sense. The flare is not in the correct rotation and direction as the light source making me thing some one has been editing the photo prior.
3, Token win to not pretend to be bias and ignores the clear quality difference .
4, Again the flare doesnt make sense to the light source. Also looking at the 13Pro you can clearly see that is an edited image. You can tell the contrast and lighting have been changed after. Also why is your hair suddenly changed if taken straight after.
HOWEVER The biggest proof you edited is the house behind you magically not showing? Did the iphone just remove it and hide it or make that spot so bright you cant see the house over his shoulder.
5, Simple trickery by having you not smile you straight away make the other photo better and seem more natural. So again not a fair comparison as of course you will prefer the one smiling.
I could go on but this whole thing was a clear manipulation and many of the photos were not a fair comparison. The problem with these kinds of tests is that you can get one bad photo from a phone and that's the one they choose to compete against the competitor. A phone camera is more than capable of taking a bad pic and then five seconds later taking a much better picture in the exact same conditions.
This is why I love this channel. Excellent comparison guys 👏

Парни, а вы по-русски то, оказывается, не плохо говорите -))) Отличный обзор -)
Очень неожиданно
The iPhone def looks good in a lot of photos, but you had so many portrait shots. I never use portrait mode and I don't know a lot of people who do. Happy with my S21 Ultra :) I like the iPhone color profiles feature though.
It's interesting to see how biased are lots of people. When "Samsung" used to add quite a lot of over-sharpening and over-saturation, many people hated the fact that their photos looked unnatural (including me). However, now iPhone 13 adds exactly the same type of fake-looking over-sharpening and over-saturation, yet many people say they prefer their photos, despite the fact that the majority of S21 Ultra's photos looked more natural and less processed. iPhone's photo at the 10:00 minute looks extremely fake, yet it received a win simply because its fake colours and over-sharpening "pop" more to the eyes of the viewers. Also, there is something wrong with your S21 Ultra's night time portrain at the 13:50 minute, because that phone has very robust performance in dark situations. It has a great night-time portrait mode and looks like you didn't used it at all, which makes the comparison pointless (maybe that's something that you had to turn on at the settings?).
One thing to note is that this particular comparison was not done right, because about half of the photos were shot from noticeably different angles and distances. The shot from the driver's position was even taken from totally different locations, which you can tell judging by the environment and the one-minute difference in time on the clock. Some photos had different clouds, too. One photo had a moving car in the frame while the other didn't. Obviously, that affects the auto focus of the camera and the general processing of the whole picture. Don't get me wrong, both phones are great and I like your content and the way you do blind tests, but at the same time my opinion is that a proper camera comparison should put both phone cameras in the exact same conditions.
You guys are killing it with these comparisons videos! Well done ⚡️⚡️

The two best phones going head to head. I love both. Apple and Samsung are really pushing quality!

Edit: If 8/10 shots were zoom pics then the results would be obvious as well. Not fair comparisons at all.
You did more of portrait shot...next comparison every camera department photo should be equal to make it unbiased, Nice video doh
The one thing that always kills samsung cameras for me is the shutter delay. With the iphone photos are taken instantly, but with Samsung there is always a second delay after pressing the shutter. This causes me to miss so many photos of my family.
This is being solved by one ui 4.0 but nonetheless it is too late.

The most annoying thing on my iPhone 13 Pro that I noticed is that when I try using the telephoto lens, it sometimes uses the digital zoom of the 1x lens instead of using the actual telephoto lens. And that is what causes some of the photos on 3x zoom to look pixelated and overall bad. It might be the software that is messing with the cameras, but I hope it gets fixed in the next update..
Is it fixed?
It seems like the iPhone likes to heavily saturate the sky with blue, even in the night shots. I was able to predict with almost complete accuracy which photo came from the iPhone if the photo had the sky in it.

@@idkubuticare 512 gb
@@feast4hands oh becuz i would have said one thing i hate is that they didn't add the cinematic mode and rack focus on the 128gb, that's all.
@@idkubuticare I know this is ridicolous that they still sell 128 gb in pro lineup. 256 should be base model.
@@feast4hands yh, also they should have added atleast 90hz on the mini and vanilla model but it is what it is and also you can't change your own screen if damaged becuz apple made it this year so that if you change it face id no longer works, you can only go to apple to repair the screen for about $350-$450 or so USD.

Only question, Why so many portrait shots? Would have loved to see more camera versatility 🤷🏾♂️
That was exactly my thought. Why so many portraits? You only need a few.
It's kinda hard really in my opinion to compare a very brand new iPhone 13 to S21. iPhone definitely have a brighter picture and smoother surface looking but S21 looks sharper and some has a very balance contrast and saturation.
Yall should try comparing iPhone 13 with S22 next year too.
thank you, great video. Interesting to know would be, if the camera of the iPhone 12 Pro improved due to software updates, now, one year later 😄
Daym! I almost started to doubt Iphones cameras this year but it looks like they made pretty impressive job 👏
My scores were 22 for the 13 Pro Max and 8 for the S21 Ultra. I hope the 13 pro has the same results as the pro max since that’s the one i pre-ordered. But they’re right I love taking videos and zoom shots on the S21 ultra
Same exact camera systems so
@@max-_-6352 yeah I’m aware of that too
I had 15 Iphone, 14 S21 Ultra and a tie on the second video. Great work guys and gal :-)
Apple seems to have carved out a nice niche in their photo processing. As you noted, it’s almost always obvious which photos are iPhone photos if there’s a human subject, because the skin tones look So Good. But not like the accidental smoothing or beauty modes now, thankfully, but just a general consistency in flattering lighting and coloring. Took a long time to get to this point. It’s the main difference I see between the photos my iPhone 11 Pro takes and my wife’s iPhone 12 - hers always make people look So good but natural. And the 13 just takes that another step further.
This video was proudly sponsored by APPLE. 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Lol Apple iPhone doesn’t sponsor UA-camrs
Vadim didn’t do such a great job making sure the shots were lined up as similarly as possible for fairness.
Nevertheless, Great comparison 🥰
Yeah, it had too many 3x shots as compared to 1x and ultrawide
It's a bit tough since the S21 Ultra's 3x optical zoom is less zoomed in than Apple's 3x zoom. This causes 10x to be off as well.
i'll go for Angelika!
I'm curious to know if all pictures were taken with auto mode or had any changes to get the shots between phones.
Also one complaint I have, was that some of the zoomed photos weren't taken from the same distance as this distorts the comparisons, because it favors focus over actual focal length and lens/camera capabilities.
Yep. "Oh, this camera works great at this distance but this one doesn't so let me move up so the camera that doesn't work at this distance looks better" instead of showing the actual comparison of the cameras at a specific distance. But yeah, it was unbiased. And "I'm going to shoot mostly portraits" but yeah, it's unbiased. I shoot a lot of videos and landscapes with some portraits. For me, Samsung won hands down. It wasn't even close. For someone doing close up portraits, then Apple was a little better (I didn't always agree with their pick).
Will you do a test using the new iPhone photographic styles? It would be interesting to see if it affects the scoring.
i love android phones, some of them have amazing, extraordinary cameras even. my only problem is how samsung and other big companies refuse to force instagram to accomodate their flagship phones, android cameras (even the best ones) suffer major setbacks when being used via the instagram app, it's borderline criminal imo. :(
Issue is there are 1k androids coming out every year, I switched from the s21 ultra to the 13 pro and that was the best switch I have ever made. I despised the optimization, lags, and not being able to use iMessage. iPhone is by far better and will always be until somehow Samsung can get optimization for every app. (Half the apps don’t work on Samsung)
@@uziwakeupp lags ??? WTF are you talking about???
@@mikevenecio6312 yea thats odd. I have a mid range thats older and its doing fine
@@marioelburro1492 I feel like those people are living in the past with such as high bias towards what they are socially forced to believe.
@@mikevenecio6312 i mean people bough an expensive micro fiber clothe from apple that sold out so you might be right
I must admit. I love these types of videos lol.
Me trying to focus solely on the camera comparisons, be respectful, and keep my eyes from drifting anywhere else bc these my dudes and one of my favorite channels…🥴
Calm down, creep.
Tell me she wants attention without telling me she wants attention
This time I felt that the comparison was too biased, I didn't see this much of a difference on other channels. For videos, potrait and macro mode I think 13 pro max is clearly ahead but for primary, selfie, night mode and ultra wide cameras it's a toss up between the two.
Awaiting the Pixel 6 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro Max. Good job guys! Keep this up!
S21 Ultra: 9
13 Pro Max: 21
Genuinely surprised
Damn the 13 Pro Max really killed it this year 🔥
S22 see you soon
@@АминМирзоев-м4р S22 should be compared with 14
S22 = 14
S21 = 13
S20 = 12
S10 = 11
S9 = XS
S8 = X
S7 = 7
S6 = 6S
S5 = 6

Both cameras are complete garbage when it comes to white balance and skin tones. I am professional photographer and everything is blue and magenta, just afwull colors. Apple should be paying Canon or Fuji to do their color curves cause this is garbage when it comes to color. Everything else is great, but to get real colors you must do a LOT of post processing
Thankfully both allow DNG shooting which should give some more creative control in post, but on a smartphone you really do want it to be right first time
What blur setting did you have on portrait mode? You can go from 1-7.
A huge advantage the Samsung has against iPhone is that has pro mode included (without paying for an extra app) in which you can control all the camera values and it's possible to get better results than the iPhone
This was lot of fun to watch!
I got 7 for S21 Ultra and 23 for Iphone 13 Pro Max
We could go out and take some photos. You could have the 13 pro max and I could have the s21u. You'd wanna throw out the iPhone as you realise iPhone makes potato quality zoom pictures. But hey maybe you like potato quality.
Exactly what I was thinking. 80%of these pictures are portraits
@@siyakhanzimande4817 my thoughts too. So its kinda an unbiased comparison but somehow biased...lol
Lmao really bro? Whosetheboss the most biased phone UA-camr and SuperSaf too honestly. But yeah cameras are neck and neck, Iphone better at video and portrait and the Samsung better at Range, and Ultrawide
@@EpicLemonMusic From the samples you can definitely see most of them were potraits. I actually wasn't shocked at the outcome. Next time they need to add more versatility to the images. Cameras aint only for shooting potraits. But if so...that's where iphone shines. So i personally wasn't shocked at the outcome. I own both....and i can definitely tell you they are pretty much neck n neck.
@@EpicLemonMusic Just saying......this video might be misleading to some non tech guys who are looking maybe for a great phone with great cameras since the final tallies may make one think the camera in the iphone 13 pro max is twice better than the s21 ultra.
All we are asking for is more versatility in the photo range.
I feel like you didn't manually expose the night photos on the iPhone. It only has a 2-3 second exposure automatically but you can manually fix that.
Imagine not comparing the same picture and calling it fair
The broken pen sure caught my attention ✌️
Great family
Are they siblings?
Thank you for the unbiased camera comparisons you do with many new phones, love these videos.
I coudn't decide for 8 photos and gave them a draw, the rest was:
16 for 13 Pro Max and 6 for S21 Ultra
you'd think she'd wear a bra. lol guess not
Wait what do you mean? Who?
Oh lol. You perv why u lookin’ down there 😂😂
On a serious note, some people don’t wear them, at least not all the time. It’s fine by me bc I understand why - I assume you’re not married or you’d have heard from her how uncomfortable it can be.
s21 Ultra needs to have the focus enhancer enabled and using the 1x lense to get the real macro mode. Then its focusing distance is much much closer and better than the wide angle.
Magenta + Green tint again is noticeable in the S21
