    To protect the rubber you can use a thin layer of Shin Etsu grease. Honda has released several service bulletins and they all recommend this to protect rubber and to prevent it from squeaking / lubricate it. From my own experience CRC/WD40 silicone lubricant or maxima SC1 protectant will eventually wash off and won't last more than a year, but Shin Etsu grease will last a lot longer.

    Also kindly clean the rubber boot and then spray a healthy dose of Silicone spray in order to nourish the rubber (restore and retain the elasticity) which helps to prevent the cracking of the boot.

      What do you recommend to spray on it? Mine is tore up will replace before new tires amd wheel alignment since have to take tire rod off to replace im thinking of a walk around like cut down middle amd hot glue gum to seal or silicone to seal the seanm I cut but ill go the best way amd replace taking tires rod off and replace tires do balance alignment etc...

    nice video! Is there any way if that boot stays off can it cause that area to creak? Maybe because its dry? I got a creaking noise when only when i turn from the driver side of the car

    • @yourDIYneeds
      @yourDIYneeds  2 роки тому +3

      If boot is not on its location then , the lubrication will have to face water and dust from outside , which will eventually wear the rack out , so having the boot on is kind of important

    What if the steering used to jerk alot and not it doesn’t move at all? The steering is stuck. It used to only work in warm weather or after being warmed up. It’s electric. Does it need grease or new tie rods? I know one side is missing its boot plus there was clunking noise when the steering used to work. Now the arm won’t turn at all

    • @yourDIYneeds
      @yourDIYneeds  8 днів тому +1

      Seems like the unit is seased so best is to replace it .
      Means you can try the wd40 way and then lubricate , but be mentally prepared to replace the rack assembly

  • @tomkawal
    @tomkawal 2 місяці тому

    Metal clamp is there for a reason. It must be like that because in full turn of the wheels the boot is pulled very strong, and plastic zip like in video is too wonky for the job!
    70 mm dia should be OK. I had to use 90mm at hand, it got just enough adjustment. With RHD UK car, fixing left wheel, I had to remove the air filter to access with screwdriver when the wheels turned to help compress fixing the boot clamp.

    • @yourDIYneeds
      @yourDIYneeds  2 місяці тому

      Sir i completely agree , metal clamps are better as they exert more force on the rack body , but there is one more thing to remember that at the end of the rack there is a lifted lip . So if the boot is properly inserted over the rack and the zip tie is installed even with a decent amount of pressure , that boot is not going anywhere .
