2016 BMW X1: Sapphire Beach to Sydney Road Trip

- The fresh-faced, second generation BMW X1 has recently been launched in Australia. After attending the launch event near Coffs Harbour, CarAdvice’s Tegan Lawson decided to get to know the car a little better by driving an xDrive 25i back to Sydney with a videographer along for the ride to document the road trip.
Sapphire Beach to Sydney is around 540km or six-hours behind the wheel from A to B, but we had something a little different in mind.
The plan was to find as much fresh, local produce as possible between Sapphire Beach and Sydney to fill the boot of the X1.
The X1 exterior was designed by Sydney-born Calvin Luk, and is a vastly different car to its predecessor.
It’s taller than before and offers a spacious cabin as well as increased cargo volume at 505-litres.
Even with luggage, there was still plenty of space available, waiting to be filled up with enough fruit and vegies to feed the family for weeks.
The road trip involved a few detours, as the hunt for little stands at the end of driveways, packed with homegrown produce, continued.
After finding a few hidden gems, and stopping in at small roadside stores that stocked locally grown fruit and vegetables, the X1 arrived back in Sydney.
The only thing left to do was decide what to cook for dinner.

Many thanks. Great review and video. Only comment is that, according to some reports, cruise controls should never be used in the rain as accidents have been caused by aqua-planing.
I like this review it shows a more realistic use of the car. In the end she wasn't complaining about anything but the tyre noise. This is typically how a car gets used. We don't need to see fancy doughnuts or burnouts talking about 0-60 times when we can just look up the stats easily. Good job!

It wasn't a review, it was an infomercial.
Had they honestly reviewed it, they would've disclosed that it drives like crap.
Even Consumer Reports says it's nothing like a real BMW.

A car review that didn't actually review the car. Spent 95% of the time talking about the road trip and what produce they bought. Now lets go find an actual car review....

what's the decibel level inside the cabin at speed?
How tall are you Tegan, I ask so I can gauge the interior space?
why not take it on the sand at boambee beach? be cool to see it offroad.. even saw a camry do ok there lol

When I first saw the new X1 I thought It was a great upgrade in terms of its aesthetics over the outgoing model however the more I see the new X1 the more I see similar elements from the outgoing model. For example the design of the back does look similar to the old model.

Where was the vehicle information?? Very little provided- the video was chronicling the 'reviewer's' produce purchases instead of actually reviewing the X1. What a waste of time- very misleading.
So this is a ladies car?
By half way there was pretty much no mention of anything to do with cars?? At the perfect moment with the camera on parts of the car (boot, cup holders, doors) you would expect a car review to comment if they are good or bad... But just silence. It's like the reviewer didn't know how to talk about cars. Stopped watching!
