I started lexapro this morning after battling anxiety for 15 years. I've been avoiding them because my ex husband took antidepressants and you could always tell when he didn't take them, and the sexual dysfunction was insane.
I'm also worried about becoming reliant on them. But after sweeping all my issues under the rug for years, and now suddenly randomly crying in yoga sessions, it's time to try them. Thank you for speaking about this!

Hey there! I'm off the lexapro now. I gave myself 6 months to get me through some massive things I was going through at the time..they helped a lot! One of my main issues at the time was health anxiety, so I catastrophised a simple headache as a brain tumor. That sort of thing. The lexapro helped me look at such a thing more rationally. So I'd know that it's more likely dehydration, air conditioning, stress etc. It gave me time to go get the tools to use when anxiety hits, to help me when I came off them. I've been off since August 2023 and feel amazing! Don't get me wrong, I've had my moments and nearly went back on them, but I'm determined to stay off.
But when I was on, it helped me immensely!

I'm bipolar, diagnosed 17 years ago when I was 12. I'm stable for 7 years now. My advice with depression is taking the mental health drugs, but that's not enough you need to eat healthy and stop drinking alcohol, coffee and anything with sugar in it so the mental health drugs work the best. Also you need twice more cardio a day that a regular person. I know sports is the last think you want when you feel depressed. Changing your lifestyle this way is lots of work, but is very effective. And one more tip: don't do the non supscibed drugs, those things can be very dangerous. Good luck, we missed you girl.

I healed my PCOS and PMDD severe bipolar mood disorder that I had for 8 years by eliminating consuming all excess estrogen that is found in chemicals in a lot of our skin/hair products and eliminating using products containing naturally estrogenic herbs (anything put on the skin absorbs into the body x10 because it bypasses the liver)also quitting birth control pills (they are synthetic unnatural hormones) not to mention excess estrogen. I started using progesterone cream/oil (which is all natural and made from yams!) and I feel totally normal again I have my life back! And by discontinuing using products making me sick. Look at all information on clearwoman.com I used Progestelle - progesterone oil. He has tons of info that is honest and will truly help you, I searched for years to heal myself and finally found an honest doctor who created an amazing treatment plan for people in need! I am not being paid for this I seriously want to help everyone who feels like I used to!

i totally agree that there is so much more they can be doing with different mental health treatments!! i have treatment resistant depression so i’ve been on over 10 different medications that were listed as possible ones that could work when i did the gene testing after i had severe side effects from other meds. then i tried TMS with no luck, tried the only other medications that had generics (cause otherwise we were talking a crazy amount of money each month for meds). now im planning on starting ECT within the coming weeks and i’m terrified that it won’t work. cause it’s really the last stop that i can afford (because it’s short term). i also switched birth controls to Yaz (the one that treats PMDD) but theres been no difference.but im so interested in like DMT and all of the possibilities that we cant even breach. but i hope you find that right mix of meds for you. it’s definitely smart to get that gene testing early cause i felt like i wasted so much time not having that information. i unfortunately didn’t find the right med from it but it can help a lot of people narrow that down faster. but i have to say a huge downside with these meds is having to wait 6 weeks for each medication to see if things are good or not because with mental health it stops you from living your life and even when you ask for help it can take a long time to figure out what is going to help you.

Hey. Here in Oregon we just passed Psilocybin for therapy. I've had a bunch of experiences with it and it really does help, you just have to be safe about it. Obviously do research, probably get off the ssri before trying any of that. But it is groundbreaking what psychodelics have shown for helping ptsd anxiety and depression. I did DMT last January and it changed my life my depression has been minimal since then, that's a big choice though so be careful with that one. Anyways just wanted to say that. Hope you're doing well. Also you're really pretty.

See a naturopathic doctor and get a nuerotransmitter test done. That will be able to tell you what you need more of. Your doctor should give you supplements in order to correct the imbalance. It takes a while, but instead of masking the problem like the SSRIs do, it will fix your brain in the long run. I was on SSRI's for a decade and was tired of them not working and side effects, so I went the natural route (exercise, sleep, supplements, diet) and got tremendous results.

Just something I noticed..when I take birth control I noticed the physical side effects quickly obviously, but it takes 6 months for me to notice mental differences. I think it really takes awhile unfortunately for meds to make a difference sometimes.

My psychiatrist prescribed this medication to me today. I took the first pill. She told me to take it just 7 days before my due date. Is it something that works? It is for PMDD. My PMDD symptoms have never improved. So, my question is, can I only take this medication for 7 days of the month? I am just wondering if someone can help me with this. I hope it will help me calm down a bit before my due date.

I took Prozac and Busperone for 30 days. My menstrual cycle were great for that 30 days that I was on meds and the month after I stopped them.
    I'm getting back on them.
Also, I found out I'm deficient in vitamin D. I'm almost 100% positive my low vit D is a major part of my problem. I was taking fish oil with vit d3 and k2 and they made me feel good for the week that I consistently took them (along with magnesium oil).
I just need more discipline because I don't keep up with my health regimens.

I have read all kinds of scary reviews on WebMD. Many people have very undesirable effects. I am usually in the no drug camp, preferring natural methods of rebalancing the brain (nutrition, exercise, certain yogas, etc) and exercise for SELF-ACCEPTANCE. Anything empowering rather than disempowering (relying on external substances, etc). We have way more inner resources than we realize. We are also perfect just as we are. And feeling is OK! Including feeling pain, anxiety, fear, etc.
