Ernst Mahle (born 3 January 1929) is a Brazilian composer and orchestra conductor of German birth.
Mahle was born in Stuttgart, Germany. He studied music with Johann Nepomuk David in Stuttgart before coming to Brazil in 1951, and then with Hans-Joachim Koellreutter in Piracicaba. He became a Brazilian citizen in 1962. In 1953 he was one of the founders of the Escola de Música de Piracicaba. After studying music there, he became artistic director and conductor of the orchestra and choir of the institute, holding these posts for more than fifty years.
In 2005, Mahle composed the opera O Garatuja, libretto by Eugênio Leandro. The opera was based on the homonymous novel by José de Alencar, which was premiered on 27 April 2006, at the Teatro Municipal de Piracicaba "Dr Losso Netto". He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Music (chair no. 6).

Thanks for uploading this. Ernst Mahle is such an impressive personality! He arrived in Brazil with his parents after the war and decided to become a musician. In the 50s he founded a music school in Piracicaba, São Paulo state. There were no good transport or communication at that time. He was a visionary and aimed to save the world with music. At a time when there was no double bass pedagogy for children, long before Caroline Emery and the mini-bass, he already wrote double bass music specially intended for children. You can find quite a few interesting Mahle scores for the instrument, like another concertino for young students, or his 8 quartets on themes from Northeastern Brazil. His 8 Duos Modais are more difficult, but actually quite interesting. Also a sonata for DB and piano, for the intermediate/advanced student. His big quartet and his big concerto for DB and orchestra are less to my taste, but this is rather personal.
kinda crazy that there is such a simple bass solo with orchestra, definitely will keep it in mind for a youth group🙏

the name of the song might sound weird for sure, it actually derives from old Portuguese folclore, it's a very well known children's song here, Mahle's arrangement is definitely interesting!

@@koniiri3254 the translation is correct! Mahle originally called it "Atirei o pau no gato", exactly the same meaning, but translated for a wider audience, leave it as it is!
Yes, definitely weird: "I threw a stick at the cat, but the cat didn't die, etc...". Traditional song for young children in Brazil! Some people tend to avoid it nowadays.
