Which is more nerve-racking? Doing a Gilda Radner impression while literally sitting next to Jane Curtin, or doing Stefon while Bill Hader himself is doing Stefon?
Dr. Mary from "30 Rock from the Sun." "Jane (as Michelle Triola), you ignorant $*@+." - Lee Marvin on "Point / Counterpoint," played by Dan Aykroyd, one of SNL's original "Not Ready For Prime Time Players," from the 1970's.
@Luis Willis She was the "Straightman" setting up the jokes and playing foil to John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd and Gilda Radner. You don't have a good straightman to setup the routine, you have no sketch.
Jane still has it. I love her humility and being able to break character and be honest and thankful while being honored and still soooo very talented. ...I actually teared up, just thinking of the history. The progress of actors (male and female) being able to coexist in the same environment without the same terror in the 1950s era of BS.
I love Emma Stone's tribute to Gilda Radner. I read an old interview with Emma where she said that being on Saturday Night Live was one of her dreams when she was younger. She never got to be a cast member, but she did get to host the show multiple times, and during one monologue, she talked about how she used to watch SNL as a kid and how she loved Gilda Radner in particular. I feel like I know where she's coming from, because even though I'm not old enough to have seen her perform live on the show, I too fell in love with Gilda Radner from watching old episodes, and Roseanne Roseanndanna in particular has been a comfort to me in the past. So it warms my heart seeing Emma pay tribute to a performer who inspired her, with an iconic character who hasn't been forgotten, and getting to perform as said character in front of Jane Curtin no less, who used to serve as Roseanne Roseannadanna's "straight man." The only thing I don't like is that they cut the punchline! I'm sure the people from New Jersey could stand to endure a few jokes at their expense :P
Loved Emma Stone paying homage to Gilda Radner, but I remember seeing it originally and they omitted the punch line to the whole skit: "Mr Feder you sound like a real attractive guy. YOU BELONG IN NEW JERSEY!!!!"
