    In his book 'Strong Magic', Darwin Ortiz suggests doing the opposite, that is, to ignore the hecklers completely. The general principle behind this is that the audience themselves will typically ask the heckler to stop heckling, without any intervention from the magician. Not only does this not give the hecklers any attention, which is ultimately what they wanted, but it also means that your routine is not disrupted.

    • @kennyyi1269
      @kennyyi1269 7 років тому +1

      Ben Manuel this is usually the primary strategy. However the video mainly gives ideas for final straws and are to be used based on the judgement of the magician

    • @evanknowles4780
      @evanknowles4780 7 років тому +1

      This is the way I would go about it in most cases, but if the heckler is pointing out moves I do, there should be a way in which I go about fixing it.

    • @KhOrganization
      @KhOrganization 6 років тому +3

      I respect people more when they deal with them head on. Whenever I see someone ignoring it just makes it seem like they’re too uncomfortable to do anything about it, and then ignoring the heckler is blatantly obvious. I think bo burnham did this but while he was causally performing he made eye contact with the heckler, pointed at him and said “shut the fuck up” and continued on.

    Iv'e watched so many of your videos but this one by far is one of the most useful. I have recently become enthralled in magic and now am pursuing it as a hobby. But this video applies to so much in life. We often want to attack people who make it harder for us to do what we want to do. However, instead of attacking them, why not help them see how we see. I love this video on how to win friends instead of make enemies. Great video!

    I have done #4 for quite a long time, and I find that 3-4 times out of 10 they mess that up too by replying to, "I bet the next card I turn is yours." with, "No it isn't you already turned mine over, it's right there."

I always liked it because it's like a classic effect for a child that they still react to, plus you make them state their confidence in holding/shuffling the deck.

    Honestly though, these are fantastic ways to handle hecklers in magic!!! It makes me want to put the ridiculously hard work to become a magician in the hopes that I’ll meet a heckler and use one of these. Fantastic job man. Love these tricks!.
    Your absolutely right about having to execute flawless double lifts or top changes as it would not be ideal if they call you out on those moves themselves!.
    Since early 2000's when Blaine came on the scene and these sleights were his bread and butter i think these moves became more known about especially with your average casual or hobbiest magician which are often your worst enemy out in the field!

    Hey Chris, big fan here! I have a heckler trick. I call it "Thumb Screwed". With a pint of beer in your hand you call on the heckler. You ask him to go up to the bar or better yet a pool table. You ask him to interlace his fingers and put his thumbs on top of the bar or pool table. You then place the pint of beer on his thumbs....... then you just walk away and perform another trick for your audience. The heckler can't move without spilling the pint. He either spills it looking like an ass, or he sits there while you continue your set. So much fun.

    These are great! One of mine, given my flair for darker theatrics: Video with your smart phone a friend/volunteer mimicking that they are being butchered or screaming bound up in a dismal location. As the heckler interrupts address them. Retrieve your phone during your playful nervous laugh ("oh man you got me") and with volume at full blast queue the vid for spectators. Over the screams smile widely while flashing the mobile device, "So did he. If you're a wise man let me finish." And slide phone casually back into your pocket. Act like it's perfectly normal. 😈

    Hi Chris! I'm a fan of your magic and your overall perception in magic. Do you also perform other than card magic? Thanks in advance. Liked your vid

    I have done the 4th one a bunch in just simple bar bet tricks, I like that one. I try and leave a corner or a small part sticking out of the discard pile to quickly flip it over. Or know what card its under. Great tips!

    The Invisible deck is a great deck to use if they ask to shuffle...just give them a hand full of air and say: "Shuffle, and don't drop them or I'll never find them." Works every time .

    You know I had a guy the other evening at a party we were outside around a bonfire and I had him sign a card put it in the middle of the deck controlled it to the top, double life showed the bottom card handed him the signed card pretty much just as I wrote it just then, not much story because I was tired and half drunk, but he is the very person to say “man those cards have magnets, you had a string attached to the card i signed” and just crazy stuff trying to guess how I done what I did. Everyone else through the night was OMG will you show my brother, friend, sister, etc. but they got the story of.... picture the card I just handed you now erase the image so you only have a blank card in you mind, now imagine your card on the blank card etc, etc, etc. none of those had any guesses on the way it was done just enjoyed the trick. So he is spot on with that one.

    For the force, I think just giving them the Joker should be enough. Especially if you display it roundly to the audience first.
