I'm an old fart, I was a kid in the infancy of the tuner scene in the early 90s. When the 1st Gen Eclipse hit the streets, it quickly began to terrorize the streets and the tracks. I remember being at Long Beach Terminal Island racetrack when a friend of mine ran his modified 91 GSX Eclipse and the desbelief from all the V8 guys as he handed their ass to them with each pass! It was awesome!
Did the government ever catch this terrorist car? Sorry, you just sound like you’ve caught the lingo of some “underground” street racer game. In other words, lame as fuck.
The eclipse was my 2nd, 3rd and 4th car. I still love them to this day. Owned a 95, 96 and 97, two GS-Ts and a GSX (technically eagle talon TSI AWD.) I hate what the car became after 1999, RIP DSM.
I had a 96 gts eclipse it was trash I loved it when I bought it it was red with the black accents on the bumpers it had blew up twice b4 140000 miles I spent 4 grand rebuilding it upgrading the turbo and putting a greedy exhaust system and a few more things and bit blew up within 10000 miles so I had it crushed out of anger

@bruceownsu not really, if mitsubishi only wanted to build an updated version of their iconic sports cars nissan and toyota for sure will get their asses handed over to them =).
Yeah I shoulda got a gsx i bought a gts the turbo front wheel drive I spent so much money on that car upgrading the turbo a exhaust and a few more mods I spent about 5 grand and it just kept giving me problems I loved it when it ran but those times were few and far between it eventually blew up for the second time it was so furious I had it crushed
Mitsubishi: what is going to sell and bring us back out of the red? The people: bring back the evo, eclipse, and 3000 gt. Mitsubishi: we hear you ... here is an eclipse ...crossover. we know how much you love SUVs The people: 😭 why are you the way that you are
Because your average car buyer doesn't watch Donut, they don't care about horsepower and torque, they don't give a rat's ass about handling, and they're functionally retarded when it comes to their vehicle. They want one vehicle that can do it all and don't care if it drives like crap.... hence the return of the station wagon with a new name and a slight lift to kinda hint at enhanced capabilities and automakers falling all over themselves to besmirch classic nameplates like Eclipse, Mustang, and Blazer to make little shitboxes that suck all the soul and fun from driving only to replace it with Bluetooth connectivity and smartphone integration. The popularity of Crossovers is mainly due to the fact that automakers know they can still cash in on crappy designs because everyone still thinks they'll have to haul some mythical and mysterious STUFF in the back of their vehicle so they want more cargo room, folks believe that someday they'll hit the Appalachian trail or they'll just have to go somewhere in the snow so they want All Wheel Drive, and you better believe you just have to have world beating efficiency for that cross country trip you'll never take cause gas stations is scarce in death valley, but wait there's more Dude you gotta have your Apple Auto and Android Car play compatibility to get your crappy trap beat mumble rap tunes everywhere you go so we added Bluetooth, usb, and aux to your car.
He is 1000% right!!! I myself overlook the eclipses all the time, and I was madly in love with them when I was young. The 2nd gen turbo is as legendary as he describes and so from now on, I will pay my respects by always including it in car discussions ♥
Tuner cars were around long before the F&F movies, the movie just brought it to the mainstream public. My friends in high school took me to the illegal street races once before the movie and video games were made...mind blown! 300zx's, supras, rx7's and eclipses heavily modified like alien spaceships from another world! These cars only came out at night, which made the scene even more cool!
I'd say Nissan is still doing fine with the GT-R and Honda somewhat okay with the NSX and Civic Type R but I agree, it's nothing compared to what cars they used to make in the 90s.
Tuner They got popular for creating relatively more reliable FWD economy cars like the Camry, Civic, Accord, Corolla, Altima and minivans like Odyssey, Sienna, and Quest. Subaru relied on things like outbacks, legacys, and foresters.
Ruben Santana honestly yeah. They're one of my favorite brands and my first car I owned was an 01 eclipse and I still drive it till I can upgrade. The evo is my dream car. But they're killing off or changing everything that gave them a name.
They don't care any more. The car section of their company is small compared to so many others. So instead they release whatever the average everyday A-to-B driver wants, and those people don't want much. Same reason the manual is dying.
Dude, as a normal resident it's epic we got mentioned. Eclipses are incredibly cheap here, so it's a great first tuner car, and will probably be the first one I'll buy
I had a 96 eclipse..best fun car to drive..i miss that car.had it tune up full blitz body kit ,lower 2in the works.. we need more cars like this for this generation
96 rs here in the garage waiting to be tuned. No one wanted to give the 420a any respect at first, but it's been proven that in the right hands they can take a ton of boost.
+1 for most underrated tuning car of all time. People love to shit on the 4th gens because no AWD nor 4G63, but keep in mind the V6 of that generation was by far the most powerful iteration. While you can't tune it quite as well as a turbo, it still responds very well to bolt-ons and reflashes. My own is putting down 280whp on simple bolt-ons and a 94 octane map. Not bad for a car that you can buy and build for less than 10k
it really isn't a solid performer when you consider the cars people are comparing it to / alternatives in its segment. Its actually quite slow and handles pretty poor for even a FWD car... No hate, just facts... helped my friend tune his 4th Gen GT and had a bitch of a time finding bolt ons that wasn't megan racing crap or from RIP. Theres more to a car than raw performance like every no car bitch ass kid wants to comment about on youtube. Drive and enjoy what works for you!
Rawdawgggg actually not true.. they can make 400hp naturally aspirated which is pretty cool considering this car doesn't have too much of a cult following like the 4G63 or 420A variants.. and yes, I mean, it isn't as good as the other things in the market, but I think it can be made to handle pretty well for it's size.. RRE Motorsports made a turbo one back in 08 and there's even a video of it on track racing at Willow Springs Raceway..
Rawdawgggg Sure it may be a bit heavy and has a poor weight distribution, but it sure as hell isn't what most people would call slow. The aftermarket isn't up to Honda standards but the dedicated builders have good options with RRE and RIPP stuff. Check out my channel if you want to see what a good example at least sounds like
I'm a big sandwich neither you got a replica from a Sierra , or a detuned version of the real RS200 cuz you wont get the TRUE RS200 that contains 650hp
I love my 95 gst. 135,000 original miles. It hasn't given me any trouble at all and has never broke down. I love the look on rich folks faces when I smoke their fancy lotus : )
"what's not to believe?" That it's never broken down or given you trouble. I also had a '95 GST that I owned for 13 years.. I spent a lot of money on it when it broke. :( But loved it till the end.
When I was a child my first entrance to NFS was Carbono, there it was the Mitsubishi Eclipse, I love it the shape and the sound of that car, tunned the hell of it and finished the entire game with it. Didn’t care of the Gallardo, the Challenger, the Murcielago. I was just happy to go out on the Eclipse. After that I didn’t understand why there wasn’t many eclipses in my town but when I saw one in the street I used to stop walking and just admire that beautiful car (for me at least). It might not be the “best” car on the world, but I can say it was the first car which I fell in love.
lmao Thanks but seriously, Mitsubishi does not have sports cars anymore, they are leaning towards SUVs and crossovers which to alot of performance and giddy-up people, its sad
it prolly pisses the mitsu dealership i work at off when their service techs drive and modify their old school mitsu but wont touch their new stuff with a 10-foot pole lol. Also even the customers gravitate to their old models more than the new ones xD.
They forgot to pay the freelance designer that created the DSM designs. Same thing is happening to Ford right now. Companies rip off everyone including designers. Oh well...I guess that's why the back some of Ferrari's look like lady parts!😄
Not gonna lie, when I went to the Toronto Auto Show, I ripped the marketing dude to shreds when he tried to tell me that the new Eclipse "maintains the sporting spirit of the original" fuck off with that.
Fuck mitsubishi they turned their back on me, i will never a car on them anymore. They threw all their eggs in one basket into the evo, without making the 4g a awd turbo that wouldve been a evo killer. Or at least bring back the 3000gt. Both the evo and sti sat on their crown hoping their audience will continue to support them with no innovation for more than a decade while letting their competition catch up. Hope they fail and go bankrupt with nissan now owning 1/3 of their company. Just quit mitsubishi you're a piece of shit company now, ruined the name.
letsroll yeah the change to SUV was shocking but it's a small company amd crossovers are hot right now even jaguar is making them to stay alive. Their outlanders sell at the bottom of the price line so that says it all about the health of the company. They can still make it up like you said if they bring back the 3000gt vr4 (hopefully not an SUV as well lol) but I think the damage to their reputation has already been done. And sports cars are not doing so well currently despite the economy improving. Anyone who's not a millennial will never forget!
Just bought a $375 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse gt as a project, it runs great but it needs cosmetic work, also my first car, I'm 17 and very excited to see my baby grow into something special to me, i drove it for the first time 2 days ago and instantly fell in love.
A friend of mine has an old heavily modded 1995 eclipse and has left it sitting outside for 2 years now, this conivinced me to start saving for it. Thanks man
I remember being a kid and wanting one as my first car. But as a teen I inevitably became more obsessed with rx-7s, evos and jdm cars in general. We all definitely overlooked a 2 door evo.
I owned a 1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD 5 speed manual, the engine and boost with a BIG 16G Turbo was AMAZING! Especially with my full 3" exhaust and hollowed cat! God damn, I wish I had looked into the car before I bought it though, the first owner literally blew the shit out of it! When I got her, there was a HOLE in the stock 14B Turbo! The camshaft had skipped 2 or 3 teeth and I had to get a top end rebuild - at least I got 1mm Oversized Valves, Titanium Valve springs - and the accompanying upgrades to the valve covers. My Mechanic was AMAZING! And he was VERY cheap! I bought my Turbo for ~$700, he only charged me about $500 to install - AND TUNE MY ECU for a better fuel map (he already had the ECU flash ready, as he owned 6 of the DSM Turbo Trio himself!) He also ran BIG 16G Turbos (EVO 3 stock turbo) on 3 of his own cars - so he knew it all so well. Anyway, eventually after draining my savings on things like a new Alternator, Steering Pump, Fuel Pump - and much more - the Head Gasket blew and cracked one of the cooling jackets a little - not enough to leak a lot immediately, but enough that it WOULD have failed, and I did not have the $5500 or more it would have cost - about $4000 or more was in parts alone... So I HAD to sell her off on eBay as a Parts Car, I only got $3000 for it - and I sunk basically $10,000 into it. See I thought I was safe because it was low-ish miles when I bought it at just below 60,000.... God I wish I still had that car, I was EASILY putting down about ~300+ HP with 93 Octane and 25 PSI of boost! When she ran as she was supposed to, she was the MOST FUN I HAVE EVER HAD IN ANY CAR! And I have driven a LOT (worked at an Auto Auction, and had friends with fast cars!)
Plz make an Up to speed on the mitsubishi 3000gt , Gto , Stealth, these are really one of the most underated sport japonese/american cars. They have alot of technology for there time and competed with the rx7 , 300zx and the supra .the 3000gt can even be spotted in the fast and furious as brian's car before he buys a r-34 skyline.
Kyle laplante totally agree with you. The gto was like a legendary car that competed in races with other legends then got forgotten. But rumour has it. That Mitsubishi is working on a concept for the new gto, but don’t get your hopes up because it’s Mitsubishi.
My first car was a 95 eagle talon, j absolutely loved that car, it was a legitimate beast. I've now got a 3g eclipse, while I love the car, it's just lacking something that I loved about the talon and 2g eclipse. But because of their age, it's next to impossible to find one in my area. I'd trade right there on the spot.
The Eclipse will always be one of my favorite sports cars, because it was sporty and sleek and low-slung, and yet was not afraid to be FWD, my favorite drivetrain format. Sure, the Integra fits that bill as well, but I just always had a soft spot for the Eclipse where the Integra never really clicked. I just...fucking hell, Mitsubishi...why?
I agreed, eclipse were pretty, sporty, aggressive looking. And the eclipse price were within reach for a average working man wallet. My teenage years were mid '90s, so i knew mitsu eclipse very well.
as a 2004 GS owner (4 cyl, 2.4L) i can honestly say, it makes up in it's lack of power by looks. i love the way it looks different then most cars you see around, and here in Europe, you rarely see them.
@@mariodacostamosteiro7262 dude i've got some fucked up stories with sketchy fixes and near death experiences but damn i want to hear the story behind that.🤣🤣

vivi xD And the RX7 with the velislide and the own Silvia was more of a Hero car. Even the car of Hans brother was represented just like a Hero car. The technically the real hero car was the red Evo.
Nice. I'm the original and only owner of a '92 Talon TSi AWD, stick of course, and 6/4. Been restoring it over the past few years. No major issues except the trans, which I rebuilt on my own, but time does its thing so it needed a lot of work. Lots of rust, seized calipers, bad struts, replaced most bushings and all ball joints & connecting links, tie rods, etc., rebuilt entire suspension & prop shaft, replaced TB & WP. Used only OEM or high quality aftermarket. Put in a slightly beefier SB clutch but otherwise mostly still stock, or stock-ish, no mods, interior still nice. Can use some exterior work but nothing too bad. Nicest part, still under 80k miles--and it's been driven cross country back and forth twice (original reason for buying it actually, 3 days after I bought it sight unseen over the phone). No, not for sale, even if this reads like an ad. Maybe someday. Just bragging. It's all mine for now. Not the greatest urban vehicle to drive, especially where the speed limit is 25mph on most streets, but it's so fun to drive where you're able to open it up. And I'm not even that great a driver or a car person. Of course no one who's not a car person has heard of it, but when I say it's just like the Eclipse, they immediately know what I'm talking about.
i love mitsubishi more than the next guy but i think we can all agree that its time for this company to be laid to rest. its better to die a hero than live long enough to become a villain and thats exactly what mistubishi is doing
So the fact Mitsu is now officially partners with NISSAN - Renault who are one the most powerful automakers in the Universe will not make a difference in their future? Yeah GOOD logic man GO back to ur HONDA n fuck off!
We have to face the fact, that suvs are the new hype. It’s the market. And this thing ist pretty damn well selling. At least over here in Germany. I hope that this car helps Mitsubishi Motors‘ financial problems, so they can make a proper sports car again. All we can do right now is to wait, to hope and to support Mitsubishi. The Eclipse Cross might be the car to finally save Mitsubishi. Because it wasn’t going so well for them the last decade.
Tim yes he is entitled to his opinion but not to his own facts. Fact is cats like him N or her have been saying this shit for years. Apparently some of you morons don't realize that Mitsubishi was n still is much more than an automaker. How da fuck can anyone say a company will fail when they in cohorts w/ Nissan is ridiculous stupidity!
Yeah...but hes referring to how they killed the eclipse and they killed the evo now too. And all they have is some stupid electric POS and SUV’s. I have a gsx, gs spyder, and a gst. Trust i love my mistubishi’s but with them not responding to their fan base yeah...they seem pretty evil for doing this to us now smh.
First notable women to win a large rally race was with it, it won a group b race with just rear wheal drive because they couldn't figure out there awd, not yo mention the most powerful group b car to ever race.
Yesh, I remember I bought that Eclipse after spending lot of time racing and collecting the monnii and then I literally put the stock Eclipse on road and it was already beating all the cars without upgrade lmao. I loved it soo flipping much. But soon after I lost the save file :(

Dariune honestly to God coming from a dsm owners standpoint the car, regardless of being fwd, is extremely fun no matter what anyone tells you. And I have an rs trim. But it's still fun just to go out and drive it
One thing you have to remember now is that Nissan owns Mitsubishi they bought majority sharehold a few years ago. It would be really cool if Nissan would allow Mitsubishi to bring back the 3000GT VR4 and the turbo charged all wheel drive Mitsubishi Eclipse but I doubt they will because frankly they probably don't want the competition with the GTR and the Z car.
Really rip Mitsubishi used to be my all time favorite brand with the Evo once they stopped it I was so pissed literally the only car that they sold lol

The eclipse was my 2nd, 3rd and 4th car. I still love them to this day. Owned a 95, 96 and 97, two GS-Ts and a GSX (technically eagle talon TSI AWD.) I hate what the car became after 1999, RIP DSM.

I’m from normal Illinois. And the amounting Mitsubishi’s we have is insane
*WTF HAPPENED TO MITSUBISHI???*
Random Guy Channel died
They made a ton of bad car loans in the early 2ks and never really recovered. They're still around but only sell small fuel economy cars.
Mitsubishi turned to shit when they left the WRC
They make more money making family cars instead of sports cars
Stop with the negative comments.

They both run just fine.

The people: bring back the evo, eclipse, and 3000 gt.
Mitsubishi: we hear you ... here is an eclipse ...crossover. we know how much you love SUVs
The people: 😭 why are you the way that you are
It's gender fluid, that's all.
I hope they don’t sell it at all, just so they know how much they fucked up.
And more prius but less Supras
Apparently they're making new EVOs, I'm not holding my breath though. If only nissan and Mitsubishi would act more like subaru.

Tuner cars were around long before the F&F movies, the movie just brought it to the mainstream public. Deadass that's tough
Every Japanese/ Japanese-American automakers lost their initial reputation of what they got popular for,
Their 90's-2000's sports cars.
Tuner subaru
I'd say Nissan is still doing fine with the GT-R and Honda somewhat okay with the NSX and Civic Type R but I agree, it's nothing compared to what cars they used to make in the 90s.
Tuner They got popular for creating relatively more reliable FWD economy cars like the Camry, Civic, Accord, Corolla, Altima and minivans like Odyssey, Sienna, and Quest. Subaru relied on things like outbacks, legacys, and foresters.
That too
@@longtailgt This generation GT-R has already been selling for over ten years and the replacement is still nowhere to be seen though
Mitsubishi has gone down the drain and its really heart breaking
Ruben Santana honestly yeah. They're one of my favorite brands and my first car I owned was an 01 eclipse and I still drive it till I can upgrade. The evo is my dream car. But they're killing off or changing everything that gave them a name.
They don't care any more. The car section of their company is small compared to so many others. So instead they release whatever the average everyday A-to-B driver wants, and those people don't want much. Same reason the manual is dying.
The cars no, the company yeah. Too many bad reps with bad money decisions and designs are too weird looking.
We'll be here talking about how cool that one cross over was a decade from now because that's all there will be left to talk about
Duane Rackham better had a turbo
Dude, as a normal resident it's epic we got mentioned. Eclipses are incredibly cheap here, so it's a great first tuner car, and will probably be the first one I'll buy

96 rs here in the garage waiting to be tuned. No one wanted to give the 420a any respect at first, but it's been proven that in the right hands they can take a ton of boost.
I owned three eclipses...95 gsx, 98 gsx, and 08 gt. The 98 was my favorite for sure.
Wat happened to em? (I stg if u say u sold them..)
Still have???
I had a 95GSX and a 97GSX. Still got the 97.
I have an 03 but the engine harness was melted after an incident with battery terminals touching the hood rip. Might do a engine swap idk
Man from Nantucket still a girls car
Andrew Winters Doesn't change the fact the car is a solid performer as well as a fantastic bargin
it really isn't a solid performer when you consider the cars people are comparing it to / alternatives in its segment.

Mitsubishi have lost their way. It's like they forgot how to have fun and they'll keep fading away if they keep playing it safe
TFC after the death of my 06 eclipse this past april, I am moving on to a mazda
Ryan Heisler idk what to say but that was wwwaaaayyyyyy off topic lmao
lmao Thanks but seriously, Mitsubishi does not have sports cars anymore, they are leaning towards SUVs and crossovers which to alot of performance and giddy-up people, its sad
it prolly pisses the mitsu dealership i work at off when their service techs drive and modify their old school mitsu but wont touch their new stuff with a 10-foot pole lol.
Like saying a former athlete still has skills even after that accident that left him paralyzed

Josuke the Shitposter A new one then.
Stiv why
And I have driven a LOT (worked at an Auto Auction, and had friends with fast cars!)
are you sure your car isn't in our driveway right now because we also have an eclipse and it doesn't run and it sounds like your car

How about an episode on the *NSX?*

i love mitsubishi more than the next guy but i think we can all agree that its time for this company to be laid to rest. its better to die a hero than live long enough to become a villain and thats exactly what mistubishi is doing
To the windows!
On the real, y'all should do the Audi Quattro.
It's got so much rally history, it would make an awesome episode.
First notable women to win a large rally race was with it, it won a group b race with just rear wheal drive because they couldn't figure out there awd, not yo mention the most powerful group b car to ever race.
It's on the list too! In the meantime you can watch our Group B UTS to hold you over: ua-cam.com/video/Vxv-AUKsUs8/v-deo.html
I have, like three times...
Donut Media one about Lancia would be nice
FINE, I'll watch it again.
7:43 - 7:49 exactly how i felt about it...
Eclipse was my favorite car..This car was a piece of Art; and still to date, Amazing looking. Thanks for making this video.
Man I used to love using the eclipse back on Need For Speed Underground 2 lol
Yesh, I remember I bought that Eclipse after spending lot of time racing and collecting the monnii and then I literally put the stock Eclipse on road and it was already beating all the cars without upgrade lmao. I loved it soo flipping much.
But soon after I lost the save file :(
Now the Evo has been dead for a few years and the Eclipse has morphed in to a generic crossover, Mitsubishi has no performance vehicles😔
Retro Car Since Europeans bought some Mitsubishi share, their brand management is horrible
It’s funny they got rid f cars that made them who they are, I smell a bankruptcy aiming up lo
They're near bankruptcy and there's a good chance they wont exist in just a few years.
I know Nissan bought part of Mitsubishi.
atleast they killed off the evo before it turned into a fucking cross over. think of the bright side all good cars end
_"High performance compact car for the kind of person who drifts around corners with a baby seat in the back. Recently discontinued, so may be worth waiting a decade or so for it to become ironic cool."_ Southern San Andreas Super Autos
What car was this?
Mirthless Maibatsu Penumbra
Mazder_ no puedes aser drift con trasmision delantera :v
Awesome lol
this comment hahaha
My dad had an eclipse when i was younger. Im still lookin for one for myself. Love them more than any other tuner
shit I never knew there was a turbo awd version, that's awesome, all of what I've seen were just some lame fwd n/a 4cyl like yo momma's yaris
Dariune wow. Dude! The 4g63T was for the gst(FWD) and GSX(AWD). Course the ragtops had a N/A 4g63. The rs and GS had the 420A neon motor
Dariune honestly to God coming from a dsm owners standpoint the car, regardless of being fwd, is extremely fun no matter what anyone tells you. And I have an rs trim. But it's still fun just to go out and drive it
Actually the convertable came with either a FWD 4g63t or a 420a
Hell ya they came in AWD John Shepherd ran 7.70s @ 180+ in 2006. Currently there are multiple guys running in the 7s many with automatics.
You’re both wrong, the Na eclipse convertible came with a 4g64
I'm not a huge fan of Japanese cars, but the Eclipse has always had my admiration and respect.
talk about the mitsubishi gto/3000gt. Those are so underrated even though it came with so much tech for its time!
fto too no matter for FWD
Neo that's what I was about to say lol fto is a sick car
JP is the heart of this channel. I always get a good laugh with this guy
Cody Green hell yes!!! The GTO/Stealth/3000GT are awesome, but sadly forgotten....
Really rip Mitsubishi used to be my all time favorite brand with the Evo once they stopped it I was so pissed literally the only car that they sold lol
