    3:25 Oop you played yourself because that's not actually the exact melody
    3:43 EQing
    4:46 How to pitch and record and pitch and record

    • @IanRoss
      @IanRoss 6 років тому +100

      @ItaliaTemplar Knowing music theory is supposed to speed up your work flow, not slow you down. Manually making ghost notes is an extra step...plus if you look at the piano roll in the video, he already has other notes highlighted. So with the ghost notes plus the already highlighted notes, this is going to be confusing for people to see what notes they actually need. He made this video for others to learn, not for him. I'm self taught, play piano and bass guitar and I learned traditional music theory in college. I wouldn't let that stop me from letting others know there is a better way. Again, I'm here to help, not to bash anyone. I'm still humble enough to learn from others like Mai who may or may not be ahead of me, whether they know theory or not. I hope you do the same.

    87 bpm is regular time. Half time is double that...which is 174, which means this isn't in the range you recommended. 140-160 would be 70-80 bpm. Not bashing, just trying to help bro.

    • @IanRoss
      @IanRoss 6 років тому +128

      @Ethan MW Again, just trying to help. It's not hard to say what you just said, in the video if that is indeed what he believes, but he didn't say any of that, so I said what I said. Take care.

    • @IanRoss
      @IanRoss 6 років тому +58

      @Ethan MW Another point...if you're stating that 70-80 bpm is the ideal range, it would make a lot more sense to make a melody 70-80 bpm to give an example of why 70-80 is ideal. I personally don't believe in sticking to that range. Plenty of beats (both trap and non-trap hip hop) are made above 80/160 and below 140/70. It's too restrictive to only stay between 140-160. The fact that the melody he came up with (great melody btw) was outside of that range (and your comment) really makes my point. I don't recommend staying in that range...good day sir/troll.

    • @emoquent9447

      @Ethan MW yes but he should've multiplied it by 2 not divide it by 2

    • @IanRoss
      @IanRoss 6 років тому +36

      @@crispyfishscale Bruh, it's a tutorial, so it helps. It's not serious, it's basic math with pitch changes AKA the foundation of music. If this bothers you, you'd hate to learn how to read music, which is understandable. It's why I stay away from teaching traditional music theory as much as possible, but when it comes to something like tempo, it's not hard to show someone to multiply or divide by 2 and giving it a name, which is all I did. The only thing I take serious is the music part. No one says you have to...just go have fun.

    Yo, so you added compression after the reverb on the piano. I don’t think that’s a good move tbh. Adding compression after reverb means you are basically increasing the volume of the reverb (since those frequencies are quieter than the original signal going in). Compression before the reverb means you are only compressing the dry signal (no reverb) and leveling out the peaks of the original piano. If the desired effect is to increase the volume of the reverb while also compressing the signal, putting the compressor before the reverb and increasing the reverb would be another way to do it. Shit still sounds fire tho, great work

    • @ProducedByDelgado
      @ProducedByDelgado 6 років тому +2

      lopindoosherfl I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with it, but a more efficient way and a way that gives you more control over the sound would be to compress pre reverb.
      Not putting limits, just describing basic signal flow.

      @@ProducedByDelgado Hello, just wanted to share some insight from studio sessions here. thousands of records done in the last decade employ compression after the reverb. Most commonly done on Drum room mic's and was the key to the sound of the drums on "Led Zeppelin, when the levee breaks" compression after the reverb helps in making the drums sound huge. Its a very common practice. theres no rules to this thats why its great! Hope I didnt offend, just wanted to share my 2cents. 🖖🤓

      seems like yall forgot that beats are still music, and that music is an art, an art that inspires and brings life to people, pumping it out as quickly as possible like a factory kills the creative process and makes songs in general less interesting to listen to, thats why this "type beat" trend is so fucking bad

    • @XenoghostTV

      @@zoinksboy3786 "type beats" are intended to be a guide, as I said before inspiration can get you to make a heartfelt melody in 10 minutes, it depends.

Of course there are some point you need to keep in mind and think about but its the feeling you want to create not the sound you want to take of somehone or steal! Keep the work up mai! 💯

    Look at all the industry standard songs like fefe and so many.

    Overcomplicating drums and melodies don't give rappers proper space.
