I love Baltimore! Incredibly walkable, rich history, and gorgeous neighbourhoods. Charles Village is my favourite for sure, the beautiful painted lady rowhomes are iconic
There are so many good restaurants and local shops in Baltimore, and it is very easy to walk around. The transit situation is lacking though - the buses have the most uncomfortable seats compared to other cities, and the existing train system is very suburban commuter-oriented, so there are definitely too many cars in a city that wasn't built for them. There were plans to build another east-west rail line called the Red Line that would have served city residents better, but it got shelved by the previous car-friendly governor. A revival seems to be in the works now, so things could improve a lot in the next decade.
We've had that walkway along the waterfront since the 90s. I can remember when they were developing it. I no longer live there but I do miss it from time to time.
I live in DC but prefer Baltimore for many of the reasons you mention in this video! Baltimore does have it's problems but it really is special and has many fabulous neighborhoods.
Also, not sure if you’ve heard of or visited Frederick MD, but it is undoubtedly the most charming and beautiful cities in the DMV. I’d contend it for most beautiful city in the country too, in fact
I would say Baltimore is a lot like the residential areas of D.C in general. Also Towson is honorary Baltimore urbanism across the county line in a suburb.
Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan.
If Baltimore has the best bus system in America, then that wouldn’t be saying much, because America in general has terrible bus service, and I personally think Baltimores MTA bus service is mediocre at best, with the staff shortage resulting in buses not showing up when they’re supposed to, as if a 30 minute frequency is too much to ask for.
I feel like philly is a hug upgrade from baltimore. You do pay for it, but it's not that much more expensive. Definitely think its worth it. You're also more centrally located in the northeast corridor.
All very much depends on what neighborhood and lifestyle you choose. I could dig having a place an hour or so outside of SLC for the recreational activities and weekend road trips available.
Mobility matters. Bicycles, ebikes, electric cargo bicycles, robo taxis and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel. Reduced transportation costs and fossil fuels free transportation. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing SAFE, PROTECTED BIKE LANES and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Ride to work, ride to school, ride for health or ride for fun. Children should be able to ride a bicycle to school without having to dodge cars and trucks. Separated and protected bike lanes are required. It will also make the roads safer for automobile drivers. Transportation planners and elected officials need to encourage people to walk, bike and take public transportation. Healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. In the future cities will be redesigned for people not cars. Crazy big parking lots will be transformed with solar canopies generating free energy from the sun.

Yes it really is a beautiful place.

Red line is a critical need.
Love Baltimore and I love these videos, keep it up!
Thank you very much. I will!

Love to hear that. DC is definitely missing something. Hard to put my finger on it, exactly.
Nice video! I love it how you managed to make a video about a city without actually filming there, and it looks good :)

I’ll be driving through Frederick in a couple weeks. Have family in Hagerstown.
@@cities4ppl awesome! Hagerstown is also very pretty and incredibly underrated
@cities4ppl It’s been over a year. Have you checked out Frederick?
3:48, That's Camden London, not Camden Baltimore!
🤦🏼♂️
I like Baltimore. Another underrated city indeed.
And the proximity to other cities is great for weekend trips etc.
Great stuff my man.
Thank you. Slowly and steadily improving.

I’ve been meaning to give Towson a solid look.

Yes and the bike infrastructure is sorely lacking as of now.
Am I the only one who doesn't think these are "affordable" ? A studio apartment is listed at over $198K. That seems crazy to me!
I guess anything less than the average would be considered “affordable” but perhaps not a great value.
Pound for pound I would argue that Baltimore has the best bus system America. Hopefully the Red Line will be a reality soon as well
The east/west connections are sorely needed.

I've heard Cincinnati is affordable but is it walkable?
I’ve done some preliminary research. Jury is still out.

Philly is better. Is it a better value than Baltimore? I guess that’s the real question.
I live in Utah which is supposed to be cheaper than the east coast, but this video is having me second guess that

Sounds like you need to start a YT channel 👍🏻

Baltimore is my favorite 3rd world city
Baltimore defintiely gets a bad rap, I stayed for a few days 5 years ago and had no trouble getting around on foot with plenty to do.
The media will create its narrative and trick everyone in believing a place is unlivable.
