Super under-rated mini series! Loved this story! I've always thought that the old green and white battle suit of Mar-Vell's was a much better costume than the Blue and Red costume he would later get. The action of this series is just great, and the plot was good, too. I hoped that Marvel comics would do more Capt. Marvel prequel in conjunction with this one. Maybe they still will. Thanks for doing a video about this series.
The old Captain Marvel costume is pretty cool. He's worn it or something like it in a few media - most notably the pretty cool Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes cartoon from the early 2000s (before the MCU!).
Subs are rolling in faster now. Lots more Captain Marvel to come leading up the Kree-Skrull War, Thanos, Eon, etc. But probably not as much time spent on each issue as I move through the series.
blackphoenix77- If he keeps up the Captain Marvel output leading up to the film, he will break over 1K, I think. CM will be a hot topic online soon. Whatever the output, yes, he deserves it.
"Aura of Negativity?" You mean the thing that hangs over me when I go to work?? ANYWAY, I gotta say that this series was more exciting than the current Captain Marvel books. Marvel really needs to ratchet up the action in Carol's comics.
Aura of Negativity (whatever you do - don't call it a cloaking device!). This series was great on the action, on the plot, art. Overall a great little trilogy and fun to read. - At the same time I can't imagine the sales were great, Marvel had been dead for over a decade and I seriously doubt there was a huge push for a new series from the fans, and the biggest drawback of this series is that it does very little to further develop the character. I feel that if one does a series like this then it should show a pivotal shift within a character's life. Gives the reader a reason why they need to have this series in their collection outside a new fun story about an old character.
Here's the odd thing regarding Thanos: In Iron Man #55 from 1973, ALL Titans are depicted as being purple-skinned. It's only five months later, in Captain Marvel #27 from July 1973, that both Eros and Mentor are depicted as being Caucasian. In Captain Marvel #29 it's revealed that Mentor is supposedly the brother of the mythological Zeus. It isn't until the back pages of What If? that "Zeus" is revealed to be in actuality Zuras of the Eternals (and seriously, has the Greek pantheon in Marvel comics EVER contributed anything to the greater universe that wasn't Hercules? No wonder there's supposedly talk of making Hercules an Eternal in the MCU), and it's not until later in The Avengers that Starfox explicitly tells Sersi and Ikaris that his dad is Zuras's long-lost brother Alars Oddly, Thanos's debut in 1973 technically means that the Eternals made their debut three years prior to Kirby's series of the same name (not counting Major Mercury's appearance in the 1940's, the Skrulls, Marvel Boy, or even Namor-all characters who owe their existence either directly or indirectly to the meddling of the Celestials)
Thanks for all of this great info. You can be sure I am going to use some of it as I am working on my Thanos videos early life and first appearance video right now. You've got a great sense of the how the Marvel timeline was rolled out and I love learning tidbits like this. I've only had the pleasure of reading many of these stories after the fact, many of them only once before doing these videos, and it's hard sometimes grasp the scope and scale of the emerging timelines of many of these characters.
CosmicComics Captain Marvel: The Complete Collection by Jim Starlin is an invaluable resource of the vast majority of Thanos's early appearances including Iron Man 55 and The Death of Captain Marvel and compiling Captain Marvel issues 25-34. I strongly suspect that all of Thanos's early appearances are accounted for in both the aforementioned Trade paperback and the one for "Warlock by Jim Starlin: The Complete collection", and stuff about Gamora's childhood and how she became a Cyborg can be found in Warlock and the Infinity Watch #9. Oddly enough, in The Avengers King-Sized Annual #7 Thanos is referred to by Adam Warlock as being "The Older Son" of Mentor, a statement that conflicts with implied information in the Thanos rising miniseries (where Sui-San goes insane after seeing Thanos after his birth and is sent to a mental institution, with unfortunate implications regarding the circumstances of Eros's conception)
I can think of two reasons why this miniseries was commissioned. One: to fulfill the condition in that infamous legal settlement that Marvel has to publish at least one new series with the "Captain Marvel" name on it every decade to retain the rights to the name. Of course, considering Carol Danvers is so popular these days, they have a far easier time doing that now than they probably did back in the 90s. Two: to give the Marvel Universe an answer to the then-popular movie "Starship Troopers." I'm not going to go into all the subtly facist imagery both tales seem to draw upon for comedy, drama, and pathos, and how both appear to support/subvert such a philosophy, but I will say I prefer this Marvel version over the somewhat more bloviated, exaggerated film.
Both are great ideas on why somebody thought this was a worthwhile venture. Would love to ask anybody who was involved at a convention or such but probably isn't the type of question that will get asked if they are filtering. Or I could probably think of a better question before I got to the mic
Well, of course the medic would be at the meeting! Regardless of her "lowly status," I wager anyone involved in the higher functions of essential duties in an active military crew would warrant a presence at that meeting. After all, would you really want her to start healing people in a war zone without full knowledge of what the heck they were doing there in the first place? That way, she'd know what the conditions of the planet are, what kind of hazards she can expect her patients to encounter and come in with injuries from, and other data she would need to properly prepare for her no doubt crucial backup role in the coming conflict. Sure, the Kree viewpoint of her position might be dim and lowly, but even they would recognize the value she would have among the trenches. Did MASH teach us nothing?
It would be super sweet to see either or both in the MCU. An appearance within the next couple of years could mean they have a place in the MCU for the next decade. Quasar the movie. One can only hope.
CosmicComics true knowing James Gunn if he is going to use quasar he most likely use wendall vaughn since marvel use the first legacy character instead of the second with the exception of hank pym besides it's time to see a pacifist superhero on screen
Oh, I agree. Introducing two Captain Marvels would be too much brand confusion. This also means Quasar will most likely be playing his role of Protector of the Universe and we'll probably get to see Eon on the big screen at some point. So much fun.
CosmicComics true and I mean do my own fanfiction run on quasar like giving him telepathy matter manipulation cosmic awareness phasing And holograms creation what do you think
Sounds cool. Follow your passion. Personally, not into fan-fiction (or even cross-overs between companies, also don't like historical fiction) but I understand the appeal of it and lots of ppl seem to really enjoy it. Sounds like fun.

666 subs! Love it! And thank you for a Captain Marvel vid. He is one of my faves!

668 now....this guy should have way more subs: he deserves it.

20:59 The Kree shuttle looks kinda like Boba Fett's ship Slaver one

No DC - cosmic marvel only. Have to keep my focus or I'll never get anything out.

Heh I think Mar vell will die in the captain marvel movie and quasar will probably be in gotg vol 3
