This was one of my favorite stories. The build up was awesome. So many characters. It's when I really got into Guardians of the Galaxy Eros and I think Moon Dragon
The build up on this one is great, and in many ways this is where we start to get a bigger cosmic story peiced together. The events that took place here are why we end up with the first Contest of Champions (current video in the works). Glad you enjoyed it.
I was 15 when I enjoyed the Korvac saga. I didn't quite understand it all but this clears it up for me. Memorable lines, for me, were Thor's "This ...mortal is our ultimate adversary?" and obviously, Starhawk's "There's nobody there!".
I Was 9 yrs old back then and I considered the korvac saga to be one of the best comic book story line I've ever read.... Actually watching Avengers infinity war and end game in some ways reminded me of this outstanding storyline and had brought me here to view .
They haven't hit the Alternate Earth button very hard yet. It would be super sweet (and oh so wrong) to see a Squadron Supreme movie gross more than Justice League. They've introduced The Grandmaster, the Collector and the Original Guardians of the Galaxy so there is some very real potential for Korvac to be a future villain. I could even see them playing it like they did in the comic - the government steps in, takes their Quinjets, revokes most of their special access, etc due to security concerns (I didn't play that portion of the plot up in the vid above as I was already creeping towards an hour) - at the same time the Collector is gathering the Avengers. Midway through the flick Collector gets killed and we have to deal with Korvac as the real villain. If they used the scene where they all have to ride together in a bus - Oscar. I'd watch it.
If he does, he'll be ridiculously underpowered: look at what they did to Thanos, Thor, and the Hulk. Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to introduce parallel universes into the MCU, so there's a chance he will someday.
He could play a part post GotG3. They have introduced the original guardians and the Grandmaster. It's one of their more iconic stories and i wouldn't be surprised if Marvel has a long term plan for those characters. They could even play Korvak out across two movies by setting him up for a future return once introduced. Edit: heh... pretty much said what I said the first time.
CosmicComics Michal Korvac confirmed to be the next major Cosmic threat in the MCU! It’s funny how a lot a people made a list of characters who are a bigger threat than Thanos and Korvac Isn’t on them😑. You can tell who’s shilling the MCU for views and who’s a comic fan.
They shouldnt . End game was a good movie but overshadowed by the fact that evans and rdj were actually bigger than the characters they played - with more popular marvel comic book characters playing second fiddle - hulk and spiderman - Marvel studios seriously got it wrong . The future of marvel movies will be the same and will not pay testament to classic stories. We have seen that with infinity war and the x men travesties. Fair play to DC when they have made a good movie its actually brilliant and dark like how comics are and about the character not the person/actor playing him or her
This story is epic combining the original guardians, avengers, collector and what not, even the death of a being as upper tier as the collector, but right now you tell me our heros our catching a bus haha. Thanks this is glorious.
I had the same questions as you, I worked in comics at this time and was a huge fan of this story and was told that the reason he took that form was because that he was a new god and the only god he has ever know was thor. So that's why he is Blonde haired and muscled also Carina Walters was supposed to be Modeled by the collector after Jane Foster in hopes when Korvac took that form he would be attracted to her. Many years ago one late night I was talking to Bill Mantle and Mark Gruenwald who in my opinion was the defacto Marvel Comics continuity director and he was filling me in what was dropped from the story for time's sake it was supposed to be an issue or two longer than it was. But Editorial was concerned with the kidnapping of the Avengers before the saga started it was running on too long, so some major plot points were taken out, that would have made it a better story and clearer that the Avengers and the Guardians were wrong but editorial once again gets in the way
Great info on the story arc (and the reason why we get the visual representation of Korvac we get)! Thanks for filling in those blanks. Gruenwald is hands down the one guy I wish was still around today and could corner for questions for half an hour. This channel might be dedicated to Quasar but by that it's really Mark.
@@Cosmic.Comics Mark was one of the kindest souls you would ever hope to meet. And really took me and two other interns and taught us how to be assistant editors. I love your channel and it takes me back to when comics were so much better than they are today, Mark once told me the secret to great and fun comic was a good simple story about good versus evil and it should to take us away from our problems and day to day lives and show us a world better at the end of that issue than it was at the start of the issue. I think Marvel and DC have lost its way thinking all anyone wants is huge event stories. Peace and keep up the greatness
Excited to hear that! Should be interesting to see what kind of spin they put on it. Also, stoked for the goodness that could mean for the channel. Thanks for the info! Love this community!
Thank you, I started collecting comics in 1974 and stopped in 2002. That age of comics will never come again, but wait, I did find this channel didn't I?
I am glad you found it! I am not very far into this journey yet but I am having a lot of fun discussing classic Marvel and weaving in the new. I started in the mid-80's and stopped in the late 90's. You got me beat by a bunch of years! I jumped back in about three years ago. Thanks for commenting! Lots more content to come.
I started buying comics like a year ago I'm in my 30s , but I'm buying those full story sets of the original comics, so much better stories than the new stuff
If you want a cool sequel look for What if the Avengers had become the pawns of Korvac. What if Issue 32. Carina doesn't hesitate and Korvac wins. The Major cosmic powers get involved, it's one of the great ensembles.
I agree with all the "little" points you was bothered by(Hawkey beating the GM, the heroes needing to take the bus, etc) but how is anyone not bothered that Galactus was unaware of Korvac's presence in his ship!!!!
Thank you so much for this video!!!! I loved it and I immediately subscribed. I remember reading this story back then. I cannot recall any other story that had made such an impact on me as the Michael Korvac Saga. Today I also saw another video of someone talking about the Michael Korvac saga. But in that video Galactus took back his power which is why Michael Korvac died. I never read that. But do you know anything about that?
Thanks for the sub and glad you like the content! This is the longest video I've done so far and have been surprised by its great reception. I am pretty sure that story arc with Galactus is The Korvac Quest which is the next Korvac story arc (it takes place across four different Annuals in 1991). Part of that one is Galactus gets upset about the knowledge/power Korvac stole from his ship. If you think its referring to something more modern then maybe Korvac Saga (note the lack of a "the" at the beginning of that story arc - why introduce this level of confusion?) which took place during the recent Secret Wars. I don't recall Galactus being in that one but I could have forgotten about it. I will be getting back to Korvac in the future but I'm creeping along the Marvel timeline. Be sure to check out Contest of Champions where we get the follow up on the Collector's death. Thanks for watching!
Classic storyline and one of all time greatest. Heard they want korvac to be in captain marvel 2 but they would have to completely water him down because he would destroy the MCU.
This is why I’ll never take Thanos by himself as powerful or more powerful than Galactus. Michael Korvac simply plugged himself into the World Ship of the World Eater and threatened the universe.
Agreed, Thanos is not on Galactus lvl. And I definitely thought the same thing when reading this section. I think the best thing Thanos had going for him for the longest time is that like the Elders he was denied a place in Death's realm. He's become more like a pensive grandpa of late who everybody puts up with but we all know used to be racist,l and mean and fought in the war.
When they brought Korvac and Carina back decades later in Avengers Academy, they kinda ruined this story by retconning Carina's personality and feelings for Michael; that's why some things need to end where they end without sequels or follow ups.
Okay, I wasn't expecting to see an issue that I'd read in Marvel Comics Digest #3, a Thor-themed collection with this story in it. Loved that tale and seeing the original Guardians palling around with our golden-haired hero! Honestly, that whole series of digests was one of the best things I've ever picked up at the checkout line, and I don't understand why Archie and Marvel didn't keep it going.
If only they added the Fantastic Four, the Defenders, the X-Men (old and new), and ALL Marvel Super Heroes from 1978 to fight Korvac, it would have been more interesting.
I'm of the belief that no matter how Korvac might try to justify his plan to erase injustice from the universe, it's still morally wrong to do so while circumventing everyone else's free will.
It's interesting that I used to have subscriptions to most of the marvel titles at the time but for some reason I don't remember korvac, though it may have to do with the fact that I can not stand any of this plot about Korvac and I always hated moon dragon. I do know I didn't care for the guardians either. So I guess that explains how I totally missed this whole story arc. Now after watching this I know I didn't miss anything important.
They shift thors powers around to much he can move through space now he can't. Have to hold his breath under water he doesn't have to he is a God treat him as such
This arc will stand up forever. It ranks with the Dark phoenix saga .
Yes it does...
Best Explanation of Korvac and his history ! 💪🏾😎🤘🏾
You have to admit that Michael Korvac makes the Hulk and Superman look like a couple of light wrights!
whut? how? why?
@exodiaexodus Korvac has the Power Cosmic right up to the level of Galactus!
