The Thayer Family

Three generations of Thayers have graduated from the UO, beginning with Brig. Gen. (ret) James B. Thayer '47, and continuing through sons John '81 and Mike '85, and most recently twin grandsons Matthew '11 and Patrick '11.

My Eugene Or roots come from the 1851 era arrival via the MO/KY/VA migrations of the Sarah Scott Snelling & Tandy families- But loe and behold- Family Tree DNA - the best DNA site has yielded up the 10 of us 'swabbies' with over 5000 direct cousins- not tree participant lists. These are our genetic matches that sort by our shared DNA genes many with historic trees- Reality not historic records. Well there they are now, Thayers- Right off the boat from Thornbury, England to Massachusetts in the 1600's. I had no idea about my lines back that far. Good records and trees from my matching 'alive' cousins , some still bearing the Thayer name in fact. Still at Duck U was some of desds. of Jackson Henderson, resident 1870+++. My great uncle.
