A few have mentioned just not being able to live in their home country and missing certain aspects of that life, but that is true of any place abroad. Some others have mentioned tax rate, but they also contend that equals out when you consider return and the fact they are not paying separately for health insurance. But we will keep an ear to the ground if there are other things to mention :)

You apply as part of a national recruitment for different regions. Because it's a national recruitment, the expectations and learning opportunities are kept the same.
Medicine is a 5 years degree at the university of Leeds, some universities you can do it in 4 I think? The students that get the highest grades get to choose where they work the first year, usually it's places like central Leeds or York, but the students that draw the short straw end up in Middlesbrough

Let's not forget, if you're thinking of this pre university, it takes about 4 years longer in the US to get the medical degree. At $many per year adding to the cost.

Is the difference really that much?
This pay gap also exists at the resident and fellow level - with UK doctors being paid more. Please also remember that US doctors work longer hours with less time off (vacation, sick leave, etc) and have no paid mat/pat leave like the UK.
This still continues into when you're an attending. UK doctors can seek private practice and can negotiate their pay within the NHS as they require, and we've never heard of any consultant who was want for pay.

Yes. You just need to ensure you meet the application criteria of the program.
AFTER completing plab exams and Foundation training exams and getting our crest certificates . DO we still need to give MSRA Exams for doing specialization/ PG degree in UK .

A doctor kept discouraging me from attempting to study for UKMLA saying how I'll never get a training job and will be a GP for life and that I should persue USMLE instead. Funny when I found later he owns an institution for USMLE courses

I'm a student, my medical school is now accredited by the WFME, but I don´t know if it will be accredited by the time I graduate.
If I follow the USA journey, I can register now in the ECFMG as a student (because my medical school is accredited by the WFME now), and doesn't matter if by the time I graduate it is still accredited or not.
But... If I follow the UK journey, and by the time I graduate, my medical school is not accredited by the WFME... what happens? there is no possibility of obtaining the GMC registration?
UK doesn't require WFME accreditation.

What if you had a visa in another category (say a settlement visa) but have completed Plab 1 but are yet to complete your Plab2, are you able to work as a partly as a doctor or in a medical related field? After 5 years in the UK, you apply for indefinite leave to remain (ILR). Then after another year, you apply for citizenship.
wait so after youre done with internship at your own home country, you need at least a year of work experience back home to apply for full registration ? i thought after you are finished with plab 2, you can immediately get your full reg and work as a gp immediately?? and on top of that you dont work as gp, youre a gp in training??? for 3 years minimum? what does it mean if you become a non trainee gp? after getting full registration, you cant go straight to residency in radiology for example? am i confusing something from your comparison of this imaginary person? please someone enlighten me :(
No. You get full GMC registration after completing an acceptable pattern of internship. If you only have internship experience, before you can join a core or specialty training, you must have completed another year of work post internship (this can be in the UK or outside).
There is no such thing as a non training GP. As you've said, you can enter GP training, but you need to have the required competencies (CREST) and meet the person specifications.

I have the opposite problem: It's insanely difficult to get residency in the US as a UK doctor.
True! IMGs have it difficult in the USA.
But the minimum amount of years for the UK is 5 years not 3 because to be a GP you do 2 years as a junior doctor then 3 years to specifically be a GP unlike the US which is 3 years and Canada that is 2 years
This is not true. You don't need to do two years minimum in the UK before you can apply for GP training. IMGs can and have directly applied for GP training from their home countries.

That will be a quite an unlikely scenerio. But logically speaking, two years is the validity of PLAB 2, if it expires it only makes sense to retake PLAB 2 again.

I recently completed my mbbs form china and our university is saying we can either do online internship or sit at home wait one more year . The main thing is , online internship definitely won't going to be accepted by gmc. But i want to pursue my carrier in uk.
In this circumstances should i drop out from online internship programme and focus on oet/ plab so that i can later go for ukfpo?

UKFP would likely be the fastest route to the UK.

No you do not. Depending on your training rotation, you may not move at all, or you may move after 1-2 years to another hospital in the area.
In the USA, you typically rotate between several hospitals throughout the year for the duration of your training.

It's one of the routes for GMC registration. You cannot work in the UK without registration.

Yes, there are post graduate exams for specialist progression/registration.
My College is a newly established medical college in India and we are the very first batch doing our first-year MBBS. So naturally, our college isn't listed on WDOMS and does not have ECFMG certification. Can you please make a video about how are we supposed to go on about getting registration from ECFMG as, without the accreditation, we cant continue our PLAB Journey and GMC Registration process? Also, can you touch up on how long will the registration process take place and will it cause any delay if I am to take PLAB during my internship and then come to the UK right after my one year compulsory internship period back home?
Regarding WDOMS you need to email GMC and they will asssist you.

I think the most common reason people choose america is because of pay after you become a specialist/consultant which is 2 to 3 times higher than in the uk

The fact of the matter is, if you want to become an Internal Medicine Consultant, you can do it in the US in 3 years, while it will take 7 years give or take. That is why US is preferred over UK.
There's no such thing as an internal medicine consultant in the UK.
@@RoadToUK Exactly. And the fact that one doesn't have the flexibility to choose whether or not he can stop his training after core training, makes it a longer process for a UK doctor to become a consultant, any consultant for that matter, except maybe family medicine.
@@himangshuhazarika3 You don't seem to understand the process. Just because the UK doesn't have an internal medicine consultant doesn't make them less flexible- in fact you just tried to compare and say in the UK it takes 7 years to be an internal medicine consultant and seemed quite happy with a fact that didn't exist.
If you want to be a consultant in medicine in the UK, yes, it will be longer than in the US if you compare internal medicine to something the UK has no equivalent of, but you neglect to look at specialization and the fact that IMGs in the UK are not relegated to only pursuing particular specialities (as they are in the US) given their YOG, nationality, or exam scores.
Even still, you may argue it takes long for a medicine consultant to specialize in the UK, but the fundamental error in that comparison is that the UK has dual and triple specialization routes within those 4 years that the US doesn't have. So one can argue in that time, a UK consultant is further specialized versus a US attending.
Examples include a stroke consultant can be a triple CCT in stroke, geriatric, and general medicine or a respiratory consultant can be a triple CCT in respiratory, intensive care, and general medicine.
And at the end of day, since the UK is not prejudiced to the things mentioned above, you will find many IMGs entering shorter specialty training in radiology, psychiatry, etc and even more competitive training routes like orthopedics, ENT, cardio thoracic, and vascular surgery without having to waste precious years struggling to match and not having to pay fees for the match process.
so if i finish mbbs, i can skip foundation training and go to core training?
No. You'd need an acceptable pattern of internship to bypass foundation training.

Regardless of the google "average" length of training. Training for most specialties is significantly longer in the UK than the US. Psychiatry for example which I’m really interested in is about 7 years in the UK but 5 with fellowship in the US. It’s a shame cause I’m really in love with the UK

You will always have to start from PGY-1 in the States, but that isn't necessarily the case in the UK. And most specialties? You've just mentioned psychiatry but if you already have experience back home, you can start from higher specialty, which would make your training length at minimum 3 years.
I want to move to USA but it isn't safe and doesnt have pak culture. Is it safe to switch to UK just for this reason. Salary is a big factor too
You'd need to make a pros and cons list that suits you and see what is best.
I thought fellowship in the US was optional and not part of their training to become an attending as is the case for HST. If that's the case then I think it's a bit misleading to compare HST in the UK to fellowship in the US as HST is required to become a consultant in the UK whereas fellowship is not required to become an attending in the US. I am aware that fellowship is required for subspecialties of internal medicine (such as cardio, GI, etc.) but for other specialities such EM, GP, DERM, etc. fellowship is not a requirement - so to add these extra years to the total time it takes to become an attending in the US may not be a fair representation. Plus, you didn't add the extra years that many UK doctors take out after HST to do a fellowship which further lengthens training in the UK.
In the UK, you don't have to start at residency or even fellowship- it's possible to 'skip' and directly become a consultant (attending)- which isn't possible in the USA. So HST isn't required and there are routes in the UK that don't even have HST.
We've given the durations with residency and fellowship as well as core and HST or run-through, whatever the situation. This information was provided at the end of the video as well as in the link in the description box, which hardly makes it misleading.
And any extra super specialized years done are now mostly composited into HST (if they choose to do it), but many don't and they typically are post-CCT (i.e. after becoming a consultant).
What is salary on not training jobs ?
The same as for training. Salary is experience/level dependent, not training non training dependent.
Isn't it misleading to say that ST in UK is equivalent to fellowship in US when it clearly isn't, your sub specialising in fellowship; while in the UK ST is not subspeciality, it's the start of your specialization, for uncoupled pathway of course. The years in training are definitely not equal and significantly more for the UK for most specialities.
Misleading how exactly? Specialty training is your subspecialization. An internal medicine trainee in the UK who then pursues an ST in cardiology is the equivalent of an internal medicine resident who then does a fellowship in cardiology.
And we've laid out the duration of training in different specialities with the source for both UK and USA- yes, some in UK are longer, but not significantly so, and a good number are of the same duration.
So, basically. Uk is easier to move to.
