I remember that day back in 76. It was a Thursday and Thanksgiving in the Land that just celebrated it's bicentennial birthday. And I had the premonition that my Immortal Beloved would marry another on that day in the future. Unfortunately, for me.. my premonition was spot on. But now I have hope and a promise for the Afterlife.
Sorry, but this is far better than the Helpless in the Last Waltz, which clearly the Band didn't know very well. This is far better. I've always loved Neil's version of it since Comes a Time album which I think came out a year of two after this concert. Thanks for posting, what a gem.
Nah. The Band's backing here is a mess, Helpless is much better executed. Also, the Joni aspect is really cool. They were romantically involved at the time, but he had no idea she was there until he hears her singing over him from back stage, which is telling when you watch the film and look at his face. It was magic.
@@grubbery everything have been re recorded and edited afte the concert ^^ They re record piano, guitar, bass, added guitar solo etc ^^ A fake concert ! i never listen the movie , always stick to those footage
Beautiful! Recorded on Super 8 Black & White. Surprised it had sound sans color. You young kids have no clue what I'm talking about so go ask your 17-year-old friends that never read anything and know everything and come back and bitch. My hat is off to the one that posted this wonderful piece! This took place 2 years before Neil charted it in '78. One of my favourite songs ever!

This is really good. I thought I knew most of the Neil boots, this one I haven't heard. Thanks!
Beautiful song covered by many others but my all time favorite version is from Neil Young & Nicolette Larson from the album "Comes A Time"
Moi aussi!
YES!
Mine too. Along with "Already One".
Oui, un super duo et un grand album. Neil a toujours cité le compositeur de 4strong winds.
ABSOLUTELY the best version! The sorrow in both voices is perfect! My favourite.
I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way.
Thank you kindly for sharing this gem, I've always loved The Band and Neil is also a life-long favourite.
wish these two bands would have got together to record more, beautiful.......peace
Listening to this live version for the first time!!!
I always cry when I hear this song.
One of the songs of my life ever!

And Joni M sticking all that noise into it.

@@jacksherman3169 This footage is from The Last Waltz.
This didn't make the final film cut. I wonder if Martin has the full film of this performance?
🌾✨
Come what may with MV for better, trusted caretakers on music via Canada.
great post and performance though seems a little jittery at the start lyrics-wise and such
They used to call him shakey for a reason
All that coke probably didn't help!
niel and the martin guitar
Love neil he must been up 2 weeks the night before lol seems like hes a bit nervous like he sucked a lil something up in nose but still sound great
Robbie wrote in his book "when Neil entered the stage, I knew no one in Winterland was feeling better than Neil".
Clear - Neil Young forgotten the words...
Shouldn't this be titled as "Neil Young with The Band"? Christ they're not even lit up.
TheRomundus yeah so what's your point
watch the last waltz. This is what The Band wanted to do.Write them and tell them you have a problem.
I really miss Nicolette's voice on this.
Got quite a high voice hasn't he. Good though.
you don't know anything
