I have worked outside of Canada for two long stints. You do pay a big price when you leave Canada, you lose your second circle of friends. You become distant from your first group of friends. You lose Sunday dinners and you miss life events for friends and family. When you return you are an outsider. So, there is a price to pay when you emigrate. It is not all peaches and cream.

    • @jillpemberton1434
      @jillpemberton1434  Місяць тому +26

      Hi there,
All things in life are not peaches and cream.
I think everyone is different based on their family situation and lifestyle. Everyone adapts differently.
For me, my parents were immigrants to Canada from the UK, I grew up with no family around me. I later replanted myself to the west coat, leaving school friends behind. Today through social media we have all reconnected, which is nice.
As for the kids, we were living blocks away from them and they were all busy, busy in their careers. Sunday dinners were too longing.
Today, the boys hop on planes and are thrilled to have an opportunity to travel, for free.None of them could afford to travel otherwise. We have the best quality times together and everyone is genuinely happy to be together.
My best friend in the world lives in Victoria, our friendship never wavers and is never judged. .We cheer each other on. For her, she has lived in Oak Bay all of her life and will never leave there. Everyone is different.
Thanks for watching! So much more to come :)
      Cheers,
      Jill

Sunday was just the one day we vegged around to rest from our long work week.

Let me get this straight. Your friends don't stay friendly with you because you left their immediate vicinity for a year or three. That is not a definition of a friend. Funny, I just went out for dinner with a friend from five to ten years ago and it was kind of almost like nothing had changed between us, apart from the missed time, literally.

The next time you see them, you view it as last weekend, but they have changed a lot in that time period. Regarding good friends, you never lose them, regarding people outside of that group, distance starts to build. When I went oversees, a friend told me about this. He was 100% correct.

I'm in the process of selling everything I own I am a Newfoundlander by birth and after working in the mines of Northern Ontario I retired back in Newfoundland. I have world wide insurance and pension from Glencore. Before I came back home I spent two years living in Victoria on a 27ft C&C sailboat and taught myself how to sail never was so at peace when I lost sight of land yes I was on fishing boats but sailing isn't the same..I thought staying in the home of my birth would bring some contentment but like John Steinbeck said - 'You can't go home again because home has ceased to exist except in the mothballs of memory.'Hate everything I own like a heavy chain around my neck. I figured if I sell my house and everything in it to young family for a fair price and give them a start it makes sense. The house is worth a crazy price since I bought it twenty years ago. The fair price will get me a nice smaller sailboat I can handle myself until I get better at blue water sailing. Can stick to the B. C coast until I learn more maybe I will just buy a 32ft blue water boat first thing. Can live in temporary accommodations until I find what I need. Then check out Mexico and decide from there maybe stay in Canada in the summer and sail down to Mexico for 5 months.. Trust me I know how you feel but maybe people will think me crazy but how does a seagull explain that they have to head offshore now and then.. without you thinking them mad..

As you mentioned, it was a daunting task to sell our home and get rid of everything (including 5 cars!), but we did it one step at a time. We now believe it was definitely the right thing to do for us. We haven't bought a home, but prefer to rent (a beautiful beach-side condo!) as it gives us the freedom to go anywhere at anytime. Hi thanks for watching our videos and taking the time to respond. As we mentioned in the video this life is not for everyone. And yes we did work hard and achieved a certain amount of success. But a big part of the reason we got where we are, is that we have always been frugal. We try not to spend more than we have to. And that is why we’re living offshore. Canada has become ridiculous. And during our travels we have met many people, young and old. All different income levels. And the one common trait they all possessed was they were happy. We are going to go a little more into detail on our next video around finances. Hope you can join us.

Precisely. Like so much of social media, videos like these don't reflect the reality on the ground for the vast majority of today's younger middle class, who have near zero hope of owning a home in North America, or of accumulating wealth anymore. Blame corporate greed; wealth hoarding; and failed public policies written by the "donor" class. In fact, the past 45 years have seen the greatest wealth transfer in history from middle income earners to the top 2%. And our society is collapsing because of it.

Hi just subscribed to your channel. I turned 50 a few years ago and 55 is around the corner, once my son is through college we are of a similar mindset and will consider travel. And becoming an expat of this once great country….I have been preemptive about readying our nest egg for exit, although there will be some tax implications once we fully leave for good. I agree with your points. Travel while your healthy and. Having true healthcare is a dream that Canadians don’t really have. We will be back in Victoria July 6th - 20th. Then we were off to the UK,, Italy, Australia, New Zealand...then who knows ?
Wd have some videos coming up about on how we financially do this and achieve this lifestyle. We also have one coming up with our Mexican agent to discuss the process. It's actually a very easy process, the toughest step is the first one. The cost is about 500.00 p/p. Once you have permanent residency, it"s good for always. I think things are going to get tougher in Canada.
Stay tuned! Nice to connect :)

What struck me is how Monsanto, bought by Bayer, was growing chrysanthemums for pyrethroids. Not sure sure if there’s a balance wrt food security and economic benefits for Rwanda 🇷🇼. My husband and I also got permanent residency in Mexico and said goodbye to the sinking ship of Canada! So many Canadians down here just like you guys and us. The healthcare is phenomenal and also, if you get your money out before the debt bomb goes off, you can make a minimum of 11% in a GIC in banks in Mexico. Yep! Better do it soon though because the government is panicking and trying to find ways to stop that.

You had me at "canada is not what it used to be". This coming from an immigrant! Congratulations first of all, thank you for the video and it for sure puts things in perspective. Here in the Peoples Socialist Province of Quebec, I feel that with time, you become a lobster in a hot pot - develop the Stockholm syndrome. You feel things are not right but nobody around you feels it or says anything, you feel weird and then you meet people that DO or DID feel it and did something about it. Canada from its state run propaganda media dont help - how is it possible that people die in the Hospital waiting room?! Why are they not helping make Canada the country it one was by educating and properly informing its people?!
This is not only sad but it should trigger a CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. How can Canada have people die in the hospital waiting room with the amount of money thrown in to this system... yes now the "its free crowd" will come and defend it.
It will be interesting to know what you did to transfer out the money and from where you handle your finances.
Thank you again and please enjoy on behalf of the ones that cant leave for the moment ;)

Good advice for Canadians that have the means to leave Canada and see what life is like outside Canada .
My wife and I did the same thing 10 years ago when I retired we got rid of everything and moved to Saigon Vietnam .
We were living in Scarborough Ontario not as beautiful as Victoria BC so our decision was easier to get out but I still remember thinking are we doing the right thing ?
You really realize all the things you accumulate in life when you have to get rid of it .We bought a Condo in Saigon and had to start over furnishing it but are keeping it simple trying not to hoard too much stuff .Saigon has to be one of the most dynamic cities in the world there is always something to do it never gets boring .
We travel so much in Asia and Vietnam that we are going somewhere every two months .Just got back from Japan and Korea and last year were in Thailand 3 times and Malaysia 2 times .
Flying Air Asia or Vietjet is very cheap and I can hop on a plane and be in Bangkok in a hour and a half .Life in Vietnam is cheap and after 10 years there really hasn’t been much inflation at all and getting around is so convenient and cheap .When we travel we can always get a decent hotel for about 50 dollars CND and when we go to KL stay at 5 Star hotels because the value is amazing.Last time in KL stayed at the Ritz Carlton for about 200 CND in Toronto that would be 800 bucks and even when I checked last year a Holiday Inn express inn Toronto was close to 400 a night ? Canada was a great place growing up but it’s not the same country I don’t recognize it anymore .Haven’t been back in 5 years but read the news and can’t believe the crime in Toronto with murders and car jacking going on .Canadians are getting poorer but ironically in Vietnam a communist country the amount of wealth creation I see is unreal it’s free enterprise on steroids. They have pulled people out of poverty and there is a growing middle class and super rich .And the thing is it is the Vietnamese themselves getting rich unlike in Canada when you see wealth often it is foreigners bringing in their money to Canada to launder , the average Canadians aren’t getting rich they are falling behind.
Ironically again being a communist country you would think there are no freedoms here but I have more freedom here than Canada and Saigon is incredibly free wheeling if you get my drift the police pretty much leave you alone here .In Toronto I had to go to a government store to buy beer and alcohol here you can buy anywhere .In Canada you can only go to Government run Hospitals here there are over 100 hospitals in Saigon with your choice of cheap government run hospitals or deluxe private hospitals your choice whatever your budget.
And again been to KL for special treatments .
So my advice is like yours get out while you can and this 6 months here and six months in Canada thing doesn’t work out you don’t want to pay to maintain a place you only use half the year in a city you don’t really even want to be in .
I tell my Canadian friends and relatives they should get out while they can but they say oh but you live in a third world country lol if they only knew 😂
Will probably have to visit Canada someday to tie up loose ends but I don’t look forward to it .

We live in Alberta. Soon to have 2 kids in post secondary. I’d like nothing more than to leave and live happily/peacefully in another location. It’s hard to balance this. Contrary to some I feel our health care is severely lacking. Waiting 6 mths to a year for diagnostic tests is outrageous. We’ve had to pay for several private MRIs and took our teen out of country for spine surgery. What a shame! Several family members have not been treated well by the system either. It’s broken. Our woke school systems are completely awful too. Hard to keep deprogramming the last 5 years. Not to mention the terrible govt that lacks accountability. All by design. If we leave we need to figure out the tax system implications. How do we leave our kids in post secondary? There’s so much to consider. The stress of the last 4 years has taken a huge toll. I love to dream a little watching your videos which I just discovered.

Hi there. Thanks for watching our video and taking the time to comment. Your comments have really touched a nerve. It brings a tear to our eyes. Hearing that you were going to dream of another life really inspires us to help others achieve their goals.
If both you and your wife feel the same way, you are halfway there. You’re in a very different situation than we were in the fact that you still have kids at home, going to school. During our travels we have met a lot of ex-pats, with school-age children. There are some amazing schools in other countries. Schools that educate children to succeed in life, as opposed to educating wokeness. But as I mentioned earlier because our kids are well on their way we have not really educated ourselves on the details of living abroad with children. But because of yours and others comments we are going to look into it, during our travels. We will be releasing a video shortly on how to replicate what we have done. And hopefully sometime down the road we can become better informed, and help people like yourself’s.

It’s a huge struggle right now but I’m gathering information to some day make the best transition for our family with the least financial consequences. I see this country in a huge decline. It won’t get any better over the next year and a half. We have opportunities to relocate to the USA but I fear Americans are slightly behind what’s been happening here. Maybe better off than us but on the decline as well.

No one knows for sure, but we believe there’s going to be a very large downturn in the Canadian real estate market. And yes we did invest the proceeds into a conservative balanced portfolio. This is not a trust fund though. Both Jill and myself worked very hard our whole lives, and are reaping the rewards now. We continue to do this because we continue to make wise investment decisions. And right now, we believe owning a home in British Columbia, is a poor investment. It also ties us down.

Stew Young messed up the WestShore. Way too many houses without the infrastructure to support it. Downtown is a drug & homeless wasteland. Traffic is starting to feel like lower Mainland.
One thing that I disagree with is regarding the expected downturn in the R.E. market. Maybe other parts of Canada but not here. I have seen at least 4 separate "downturns" in the market and all I saw here was prices *hold* for a year or two. Then they continued on their steady climb northwards. The first house I bought here is now worth 7 times what I paid for it and can bring in $3k/month on top of that in rent.

Penticton is overrun by immigrants and sellouts from Vandsterdam. It isn't pretty. Old people and high-school people and nothing in between. A dingy Parksville '

Very intriguing - and you clearly did something right with the way you titled this video (Thumbnail). It showed up on my feed and I'm watching you guys for the first time. Liking the logistical info, ie health care. You've hooked me as a viewer:)

      Hi there!!!
Thank you so much! Glad you liked the video. We are working on a more in-depth video on healthcare now.
In the meantime, this is the follow up video to this one. . The video goes through the actual process, how and why we did it, and what our average monthly costs are. I hope you enjoy it!

Great video. I take it you are planning on collecting your CPP and OAS and paying into MSP? I am 57 and fortunate enough to be able to avoid collecting until 70 so the amount should be more than $2500 a month. That pays a nice rent somewhere warm. MSP seems a bargain as well. So plan on paying if required. Your thoughts?

      Hi Steven,
We are releasing a video today or tomorrow that will answer some of your questions better than I can explain writing to you. I can tell you, you can live like a king for less than you think per month. I think you will be shocked.
Thanks so much for watching and subscribing. We really appreciate you taking the time to write. Stay tuned!

@@jillpemberton1434 nice. I look forward to seeing it. I have travelled most of the developing world. Lots of pros and cons to consider. One thing for sure, 100k a year in passive income is still worth a lot in many countries. For me the big take away is remaining fit and healthy… “No country for old men” should be a disclaimer in many places.

Happiness is a choice. It starts from within and has zero to do with the outside. Money or no money we all made choices with how to live and /or spend our lives. It’s easy to judge others and say must be nice or you are so lucky or look what you have. I have learned to not take it personal anymore these judgements because they have nothing to do with me. Actually what anyone thinks of me is none of my business. Happiness is a choice. ❤

@@evapierozzi1138 Yes you are so correct. Put people love telling everyone on You Tube and Facebook how happy they are. I have family members like this. Everything they do and eat must be put on Face book to show their great life. Maybe just be humble and private with your happiness then. You have made your millions and people do not need to know.

'Canada is definitely NOT what it used to be' - That statement could not be any more true! Unfortunately it is the Government that WE elected the last eight years that made it this way, and it is doubtful that a new Government can change things back, as the damage is done :(.

We can only hope that voters see the error of their ways and remove this despot Trudeau and his lackeys the NDP. If not there really is no hope for the country and little reason to stay.
