Wow, what a beautiful cover. I'm 23 and Gordon Lightfoot was one of those guys that my parents would play for me as a little boy, among other artists across the ages like Jack Johnson or Johnny Cash who gave them, and me, a little peace during troubled times.
Beautiful cover! Brings a little tear to my eye thinking this is one of the songs I use to rock my kids to sleep to. One in high school and one in college and both are Gordon fans.
That I did! When life meets song, that can happen- even if the song were just a pretty melody before that. Music's power to create, reflect, and change one's mood is why most players love it. Thanks for the comment.
@@butchlawson And I am a lifelong player as well, having had my gift/curse of perfect pitch noticed when I was five. Why I mention that is because I feel the emotional value of the different keys in different ways. I see C as plain, G as sweet, A as pure, (and so forth), but the key of B major reeks with honesty. If this piece were in B flat, it would sound off, mis-matched, because it is a friendly but powerful key. B fits perfectly in this song. I looked at ‘Imagine,’ a while back, the sheet music was in C, and it didn’t sound honest. Come to find out Lennon had dropped the speed of the recording to B, where it glowed. How about that?
5:08 Hi Butch. Hope you are well and best wishes from New Zealand. Thanks for this and all your other great covers of great classics from great songwriters! I have only just discovered your channel and look forward to hearing more from you.
Hey Butch. I'm a first-time listener to your channel, and your cover of Rainy Day People is now my favorite of this great song! I wish I could pick like you! What sheet music would you recommend to learn this song on a guitar?
For music, lyrics, and chords, get a Lightfoot songbook that has this song in it. If you find it too difficult to play exactly as he does, focus on the chords and pull the melody from them. I'd like to say I read music and tabs, but alas, I'm not a musician. I'm a lazy player and I play by ear, so I will always take shortcuts. Thanks for the great comment!
Me, too. It comes out different each time! The short explanation is that I just pick the melody notes out of the chords that I'm already playing. You can do it too, Ken!
Thank you for your inspiration. We lost lost a poet with great musical talent.
Wonderful version of a truly great song. Glad I stumbled upon this video.
Wow I think I could listen to this man for hours!!!!!!!
Me too.
Butch- Don't know each other. You have moved me with your beautiful rendition of Gordon's lovely tune.
Very Nice.
Really great. Sung by, I venture to say, a rainy day person.

Gordon wrote so many great songs. I sing more than 50 of his songs myself. Thanks for sharing this.
