I got the bus one because I assumed the question would be something like “how many people are left” and that the trick would be that one of the initial 10 people is you, the driver, so I already had it in my mind the whole time that I was the driver

Outsmarting the first brain teaser: If two people are tied for 2nd place and 1st place is just barely ahead of them, if one of the 2nd place people passes the other person in 2nd place, they can end up tied for 1st place, which would allow the answer to be 1st place instead of 2nd place.
