As a struggling writer myself, seeing stuff like this get published and have a huge fandom is really discouraging. And now Hulu is making it into a tv series…..
No don’t let it discourage you! If you look at it the other way round then, if ACOTAR can be published in the state it’s in then Anything can be published! Including your work which I’m sure is miles ahead 😊
I'll fling myself off the nearest cliff is this sh*t comes onto TV.... please dont. Spare me the suffering. And yes I read her books and then I wished I unread them....
I really feel you I am someone who wants to be a writer and struggles a lot and this book is just trash its just stupidity and I am begging you do not let it discourage you because anyone with a brain could tell this is stupid this book is so so stupid
Finally someone who understands! That book was so bad. I hated Rysand, I hated Tamlin, I hated that he kidnapped her and it was treated like it was completly normal and ok??? I really don't understand why this series is so overhyped.
They honestly could have just had it that she wondered into the fae land instead of her being Kidnapped and the plot would not have changed other than being less creepy
Thanks for the interesting review! I agree that Rhysand is better as a villain than a love interest. The way he treats Feyre under the mountain with the drugging and forced lap dancing was abusive and for him to later go on and try to behave like it was part of some ingenious plan to protect eveyone is disgusting. It was also sooo unnecesarry. If Maas wanted him as a love interest, he didn't have to inflict any of that pain on the MC. Otherwise, he ought to at least own his cruelty. I don't mind humanising morally ambiguous characters, but that wasn't ambiguous. It was just straight up evil abuse. Strangely, I really liked Rhysand as a love interest when I first read this series several years ago, but now I'm actually just horrified. I also never finished the original trilogy. The war felt so pointless and boring. Also, I see you use both 'Rees-and' and 'Rice-and' pronunciations interchangeably. I find his name soo annoying because when it's Rhysand, I say 'Rice-and' but over time, people start calling him Rhys, and I can't in good conscious call the High Lord of the Night Court, rice! What is it with Maas and wriitng love interests with names I can't pronounce? I thought Chaol was bad...
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment all this, it means a lot 😊 We are definitely on the same page with Rhysand then! It’s baffling how in the second one they just gloss over it like ah yes just a small step in the plan, like Excuse me ?? And yes his name is so annoying!! I feel like maybe it’s based on accents like, Americans say RhysAnd and Brits say Riceand but I’m not sure on that theory maybe we’re just wrong 😂 thanks again for the comment!
Yes! Oh my god I thought I was going crazy because I was the only one who thought this, and in general young adult seems to glorify abusive love interests and it sucks to watch what this does to the younger generation of girly pops 💔
Exactly!!!! I was told the second one would get better but honestly didn't want to spend my time on it and read reviews and apparently Rhysand and Tamlin just kinda change personalities in the sequel. What?!
So when booktube began, there were some popular booktubers who promoted this book, saying things like it’s the best retelling of beauty and the beast. I really think they got paid to give this 5 stars. This book was HORRIBLE. In fact, anything that Sarah J Maas wrote, is plain trash.
I'm glad you feel the same way I do!! It was horrible, I never cringed so hard, I even started writing myself when I was reading this book, cause I've always had some ideas but this finally gave me the push because if this can be popular and liked then I must be a lyrical/storytelling genius and want to make the same bank, lol!!
Same here! Like look how little skill and direction you need to write a wildly popular book, I could’ve started my writing and made bank a long time ago lmao! Just write about handsome fairies or whatever and make them do sex, so easy
Thank you for this review! ACOTAR is literally everywhere over the internet and two book friends recommended it so I listened to the audiobook but sooo much of it really makes no sense. She killed Tamlin's friend and is rewarded by living in his mension. She starts to paint and does nothing all day. Only after months does she suddenly miss her sisters. Tamlin in heat that whole ceremony honestly I didn't like it. It's again that possesive owning mating but I guess some ppl like that. And the whole female Villain she was a 2D character just meant to be a Villain. Like she just wanted to own or kill everyone and as you said the riddles were also like: what? And Rhysand was definitely not moral with those tattoos. I could understand him being a bad boy love interest, I can. But suddenly swapping his personality with Tamlin's basically in the sequel to make him all good??? How???? Why????
Honestly what gets on my nerves the most is the wasted potential that ACOTAR's world presents. The courts, how they work and everything that jas to do with Hybern and its king is genuinely interesting, same applies with thw high lords and the backstory of the war and the relationship that humans and faes had before it. Amarantha was also set-up to be quite the intimidating villain considering she robed the power from the high lords, and I genuinely thought she'd be a reocurring villain for the next like 2 books (since I already knew this series had 5 books) and that she would be way more developed on in the future, but the author simply decided to kill her off on that same book and leave her as a plain and boring villain who simply wanted to bed Tamlin and send the humans with their creator because something something, my sister was killed by a human, something something I hate them now... As I said, it truly sucks for me, because there are some great ideas there, just poorly executed, and I don't believe that this book gives the justice the world the author has set up deserves.
Idk why they’re even called courts. Courts have courtiers. It’s literally just a high lord and a couple supporting characters/“inner circle” friends for each “court”. I was initially interested in reading these bc of the cover art and the titles but now I’m super disappointed bc there’s not a single court aspect to any of these books or any of the “courts”. In book one feyres life and village is described as medieval but then we get flushing porcelain toilets and leggings and sweaters and sneakers? And somehow Velaris is a booming city but there’s literal zero description of any type of industrialization or trade between courts or nations? Its all so weak and the world building is literal ass
I liked your review even though I have not read the book myself. But I've read enough Goodreads 1-star reviews to know that this book isn't worth my time or money. Why is this series so popular? A subpar piece of literature.
I never read this series because a friend of mine read it and tried to convince me to read it too since according to her 'It was right up my alley' (she probably thought that since I usually enjoy enemies to lovers). However when I heard what happened in book one and that somehow Rhysand was going to be the love interest in the second book I immediately lost interest. The fun thing is that my friends were calling me out for being an hypocrite since i love Captive Prince, and what Laurent puts Damen through in the first book is not for the faint of heart XD. In my defense what they forget is that in Captive Prince all the characters are so complex and compelling that I was actually interested to see their development (nothing in those books ever felt unnecessary) , the characters in ACOTAR sounded kinda boring, plus ACOTAR has a love triangle (which is something I hate with a passion) and the plot sounded kinda cringey.
THANK you for this summary, an honest summary because everyone else is afraid to look at this book critically! I’m a quarter of the way in and things happen in it for seemingly no reason or flimsy reasoning, it’s aggravating. I may would have liked this in middle school but today it’s just a waste of time and reading
If I’m honest the only reason why I read the second book was because I already owned it. If I had only bought the first book, I wouldn’t have continued. But I did enjoy the rest of the series more. So hopefully you will too ☺️ Also this whole rant is just the best!!!!
I was glad when I found her review, because it's like everybody is loving this book and I didn't. I was disappointed. And was relieved to find Cindy, someone who shared my experience.
This book was so bad, I kept laughing throughout it, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. The writing was bad many times, I hated that the entire plot was explained by a few characters, the world building was sloppy, I have no clue what time period this takes place, the characters’ dialogue is silly and cringey and doesn’t make much sense (it doesn’t help me suspend my disbelief at all), and even the s*x scenes are subpar, I was very disappointed. Did the girlies who love this book series never read Wattpad as young girls, or maybe they didn’t get all the smut and bad writing on that app out of their system, idk
I keep getting recommended ACOTAR by people I know and each time I ask if they read Wattpad as a kid and they always say no. Makes sense, they’re going through the same phase I did at 13 💀
Feyres village is described as basically medieval with mercenaries, thatched roof cottages, hunting only with bow and arrow so obvious pre musket. There’s a mention of Tamlins great hall where the tithing takes place. But then we get like flushing porcelain toilets and leggings and sweaters and women wearing pants and sneakers and crop tops in book two. Makes no sense at all. Somehow velaris is this booming cultural center and mega city but there’s no description of any type of industrialization or even how trade and commerce works between these nations. The “courts” are just a high lord and a couple friends each. Literally has SJM even looked into how an actual royal or even ducal court is set up? I was so disappointed bc the name of the books and the covers made it seem like it’d be actual decent medieval style fantasy
I didn't like it either. I'm literally on youtube trying to see if I'm an alien cos I felt like the only one out there who didn't like it and didn't get even a smidgen of the hype. I also didn't find any of the men remotely attractive. I felt like I was being told to find them hot but they really didn't do or say anything that made me feel they were. They were just "beautiful" or "handsome", but they weren't hot to me. That's it.
i had to stop reading crescent moon cuz of the constant head hopping. maybe i do have a chance at being a writer if books written like that are being published lol
Thank god for this video. While I read the book I just kept thinking "This? This is what people think good books are?" Like I had just finished the Twice Dead King duology, difficult books to get into I know, but they were really good. But not a whole lotta people read them. And then they just read this crap?. I don't read a lotta romance novels, but from what I've heard, they usually suck. So if this is what TikTok holds as being the "gold standard" I'd hate to see the rest of it. (Ps great vid. Hope more people start seeing your content. New sub) 👍
I AM WITH YOU. Her books are trash ... I TRIED I really did, but I didn't like any of her primary characters. Her storylines were barely there, or they were prefab (redone) and/or cringe AF. There is NO character development; the relationships are TOXIC, and she has hardly any real world building. I almost want to say it was like horrible fan fiction but I think I've read more fanfiction that was better than her books than her books could ever be.
Meanwhile, book 3 onwards had me going "why the heck is this a doorstopper, there's barely any plot there". The pacing in ACOTAR as a whole is just... yeeesh.
My thoughts exactly. What do you mean the girl just killed your mate and you’re like ‘k you can just move in with me’ ??? The whole plot seemed so unnatural
@LoveSam- I was excited to read it... had been on a waiting list since October last year, so I binged it... I realized about halfway in it wasn't... up to my standards, but I waited that long to read it and figured Id finish it.. needless to so I will not be reading the others
I really appreciate honest reviews like this. It seems like if you just follow the trends of popular reads from Book Tok, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. I'm certain providing a less than stellar review for a book that has such a large following is setting yourself up for fan vitriol, but I hope readers are able to respect the rights of others to dislike something just as honest reviewers respect their rights to enjoy them. At any rate, I'm subscribed, so I'll look forward to your future insights.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment😊 I agree, most books that pick up traction on booktok arnt the best, but there have been some… Some… good ones but even then I don’t think they make up for books like these! And thank you so much for subscribing!
I don't think I would necessarily recommend this series, but you're going to read it, here's the best way to do it:" 1. Read Book 1 (because you have to) 2. Read Book 2 (which is actually a pretty good book) 3. Read Part 1 of Book 3 End
Now I'm just thinking Rhysand is based off of Sebastian from The Mortal Instruments?? He also was the Fae Queen's lover and I think he was manipulating everyone around because she had the most power... and he did the evil rune on Jace to control his mind...omg I hate the series even more 😂
I liked the first chapter because it immediately caused the conflict to later occur in the book. However, I couldn’t read past chapter 21. Honestly disgusting for me and I couldn’t even pass the fact that Rhysand drugged her and forced her to do stuff, and the fact that Tamlin just sat there like a dog, while she basically sold her life within those three months for their entertainment.
Awesome video and excellent review of this book and I can’t wait to see your video reviews of the rest of the series. I am now debating whether I should read the Throne of Glass series and the Crescent City series.
Hoping to get the third book reviewed soon! In terms of Maas’ other works I think Throne of glass is a mixed bag but overall fun enough. Crescent city…. Just no.
I enjoyed TOG for the most part. I did a LOT of skimming though. My biggest complaint is her books are entirely too long for what they are. She could have told the same story in half the time. I could take or leave the rest of her stuff honestly.
my girlfriend is reading this book and while she tells me about it, i have to bite my tongue at the plot points and story. Feyre just brushing off the fact that she got her childhood friend brutally murdered and just doesn’t really face any repercussions lol. just seems fan fictiony
Thank you for your review. I've never read the book, but had a feeling I wouldn't enjoy it. I think I'd go nuts over the many issues you brought up in the book, 😆 Anyway, please read and do a review on HEAVEN OFFICIAL'S BLESSING by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. I'm really curious as to what your thoughts are on this book. It's one novel that the publisher split into several books. It was originally fan-translated from Chinese to English. The book has an international fanbase, and has been adapted into a graphic novel, an animated series, and there's a live-action series in the works. Also, lots of fan-arts.
Thank you for your video, good to see I`m not the only one. I just don`t get the hype with this book, I`ve never read a SJM book before. Picked it up after hearing about it so much on social media, and it was meant to be soooo good. Upon starting reading it, i felt the writing is bad. Straight away i felt Cinderella vibes with the presentation of MC. As MC commits a crime she get sent of to "get the punishment", the "Beauty and the Beast" vibes came in strong. I even thought at some point; "when is he gonna introduce her to the library?" and lo and behold, just a few pages later that happens. Nothing is original in this book, it`s done before. There is also so many "why`s". A never ending list of why. Like the why`s of Twilight; why does a 100 year old vampire falls in love with a teenager, why would a 500 year old fay fall in love with a teenage girl? All characters are so boring and colorless, most of all the MC. She honestly has nothing special to her. She uses a weapon that basically is fay kryptonite and nothing else. Throughout the book it`s difficult to see if MC has anything to her at all. I honestly struggle to see why the characters are attracted to one another. There is no attraction. So when MC goes to save "the man she loves", I just keep wondering when that happened and what pages I obviously didn`t read. I often find that SJM avoids going into detail, like when she write about MC blackout when she drinks. And that this continues at the very end of the book. In my opinion, this is very lazy writing and you are suppose to just accept that "things happened, okay?". Well, this is hours of my life I won`t get back.
Wow thank you for taking the time to write all this! And I totally agree, the love felt so forced, one minute he’s threatening death and the next he’s madly in love?? And that’s just Tamlin. Not that Rhysand differs much from that description.
Enjoyed the review! My Girlfriend recommended me the book and I enjoy a good fantasy romance type book from time to time so I figured I would read it and its a good thing I listened to a audio version of it because I probably wouldnt have finished it otherwise lol I thought the writing was just poor and the majority of things just didnt make sense.
Im sorta relieved Im not the only one. I want to preface that it is amazing that authors of every literary background can publish and make a living off it and even more fantastic they have the fanbase for it. But this book isnt a literary work of art as many others and advertisements make it out to be. Not say every book we read had to be this genuis work, but the hype for this book and under fantasy genre, people were giving me the impression this was up there with Tolkien and Martin. I really tried to like it but when I realized it wasnt going to get better I felt scammed hahaha. But in all good intention I'm glad its pulling people to read!
Very true! It pains me that, due to its popularity, this will be remembered alongside Tolkien, where as other more deserving titles such as Samantha Shannon’s Priory of the orange tree, which are miles better (in terms of being a complex and well crafted fantasy novels).
@@LoveSam- I agree with this wholeheartedly. I preferred the nameless one wyrm a million times over that literal worm in acotar 🤣 I also have to say something that really struck me was the lack of emotional development for Feyre. I eventually did read about 10 chapters of the next book mist and fury when I was trying so hard to like it. The way the author chose to show how guilty Feyre felt about all the deaths a WHOLE book after is bizarre. It was still scarce but imo mentioned more in the second book than when she was forced to face them. It's like she was attempting to show Feyre's ability to reflect but it failed miserably especially when she spent more time with the steamy bits and the descriptions of the city.
I would LOVE to know why I enjoyed this book if I agree with every criticism I’ve seen so far. I don’t understand myself. Maybe the second one will snap me out of it. Clarification: I enjoyed it from like 45% on and it took me almost a month to get that far because I wasn’t hooked, so that makes my liking it even worse. I *know* it’s not good. Someone help me.
I'm so happy that there's people who agrees. The way it glorifes toxic relationships and domestic abuse is really sad and depressing. There isn't even a good story line or characters and the world building is honestly below average. It's like, it's okay if he guy is hot even if he hits you!! It sucks. I whish i could unread this. I feel like these books were written by a fourteen year old. Its like something from wattpad🥴
Yeah. I thought it was pretty rough. My sister had me read it and I did not think it was very good. That being said, the series actually does pick up considerably in the sequels to the point where I would say the first is the worst by a wide margin. Not sure I can say the rest of the series is great from an objective standpoint but they're a pretty major guilty pleasure at best and so bad it's good at worst. Either way I had fun with it (Even if some of the sex scenes are horrifying)
Ok i have read the three books of acotar and tbh only the fights, wars or the games are good.I liked acomaf though but every acotar book is too exaggerated. If we come down to plot ,the novel could have been a lot more thinner.Well for me its REeSand bcoz in the book pronounciation of the names were given.I hated Tamlin but i did like Rhys idk why he sounded too charismatic to be hated.I would have loved if the character building of Rhys was slow bcoz the villian arc was too good.I hated feyre sometimes due to her forgiving behaviour toward nesta who was not even close to apologetic.Well i hated the books bcoz of exaggeration of details.
I have found my people here! I have two friends that gab about this series endlessly and hyped it up to me. I found SJM repetitive, superficial, and cringey. It wasnt good, at all.
If not for the sequels this book wouldn't be half as bad as it is now in the context of all that happens later, IMHO. The first book is not great, but later ones are worse
Yes to everything you said!! (although, Tamlin was all over Fayre bc he was surging with ritual magic and couldn’t control his urges. That’s why he tells Fayre multiple times to stay in her room and not look for him. And, of course, like every other time he tells her something, she won’t listen!) And worst of all, this book is terribly written! I guess it’s supposed to be YA, so maybe that’s why it seems to be written at an 8th grade reading level and the cheesy dialog seems to be lifted from an episode of the Kardashians rather than a high fantasy novel … but then if it’s YA, why all the sex? And if it’s about sexy fairies, maybe write for and older audience and ACTUALLY make the sex scenes hot. The only thing hot about this book was the Hot Mess it created! (Oh… and that “riddle” that would save everyone?? I literally figured it out immediately after I read it. And I literally had to put down the book in pathetic disgust.
Yup. I read the whole series (audiobook so I could background read it behind gaming) so I'd get the memes... but Holy hell... they alllllllllllll need therapy, every single character 😂 TOG I'm enjoying tho. Altho the misogyny is making me look sideways at it at times. Looking at you Chaol 👀 "too unpredictable", nah fool you just butthurt.
Honestly I didn't really hate the first ACOTAR. I could respect it for what it was trying to be and just dismiss the third act as Amarantha being legit insane. It's the next two books that were flaming piles of trash.
@@LoveSam- Fun fact: Apparently Sarah J. Maas used to be big into writing Sailor Moon fanfiction. After I remembered that it suddenly dawned on me that Amarantha is a straight up copy/paste of Queen Beryl.
i actually liked rhysand as a love interest, I thought tamlin was too perfect, I liked that rhysand was a bit darker but then he got way too cheesy towards the end of the series
Believe me, the next books get a lot better. It's not top-tier literature by any means, but the characters that you'll soon be introduced to are wonderful, and will make reading it worth it. ☺
@@LoveSam- you also realize the reason for rhysand's "manipulative" behavior under the mountain and why he had a spell to see if she was touched hehehe although I agree with jazzie's critique of it not being top-tier literature
@@curlyfries__ yeah all of those stupid excuses as to why Rhys acted so terrible are awful and make no real sense. Sarah just wanted him to be a god guy now and came up with lazy justifications
I feel like it's easy to assume it's gonna be a bad take when you praise throne of glass, an objectively worse written book, yet admonish ACOTAR. If you want to go at this with the snobby superiority of a classical literature enthusiast looking down on all romantasy books, then sure. Pop off. But you're here talking about how Throne of Glass was good? Throne is Glass is straight up a badly written book. It's poorly paced and poorly developed with characters doing the LEAST believably things in any given situation. It's very obviously Sarah's first book and the lack of knowledge in characterization and narrative organization is very apparent. ACOTAR is straight up...better. Every point I made about Throne of Glass is objectively better in ACOTAR. It is a better piece of writing from a technical standpoint. Now that's not to take away from your opinion. I can totally understand why you like Throne of Glass more. I think aspects of Throne of Glass are far more interesting and appeal to me more than ACOTAR. I think it offers a better high fantasy experience. That doesn't make it better. Honestly anyone that disparages SJM annoy me so much because they talk about all these FAR BETTER BOOKS in the genre. Like bishhh...where?? People will name drop the same 2 books as if that constitutes a whole list of them. Like yes...I'm aware The Poppy War is effing amazing and probably the best YA fantasy book out there...but that's just it...that's like the only one. Whatever generic one you try to hit me with as response definitely isn't as good as Poppy War. The genre is, my definition, a little cringey for anyone who outgrows it and a little too simplistic for older readers. Accept ACOTAR and all other books in the romantasy genre for what they are and judge them on what they deserve to be judged on. Also...the first 5 minutes of your video is bashing the book based on its premise....the same premise as BEAUTY AND THE BEAST??? It's literally a Beauty and the Beast retelling....and you're throwing shade on the one aspect it has in common with its inspiration material lmao. Also getting mad that the illiterate girl couldn't "figure out the reading challenge on her own" was laughably at best. Like...no that wasn't an opportunity for character growth...she cant read buddy.... You don't just magically start understanding words. At best she could guess...which is what she almost did, until Rhysand stops her from choosing wrong and helps her select the correct answer. Not sure why you feel like that was supposed to be some triumphant girl power moment. Feyre can't read and it's a huge liability for her and almost gets her killed. It's why she's open to being taught to read by her enemies in the next book. Dont meant to get too rude here...but like come on. People are gonna watch these videos, so you need to be able to defend them. You should formulate some better talking points instead of winging it to avoid these.
I don't think you can read objectively, unless you're reading a dictionary (i don't think they have fae either sorry) but this is fiction, so people do have opinions and they are subjective 😱 great review Sam 🙌
@@nimrah3341 opinions can be subjective. Many of his points were not opinions. There is a right and wrong answer when it comes to writing from a technical perspective. And besides that, my other point about literally disparaging the premise of beauty and the beast was…funny to say the least. You can say “I think beauty and the beast is a bad fairytale and so I don’t think a retelling is something I’d enjoy.” But that’s not what he said. He broke down, moment by moment, the concept of being taken to live with the scary man in another land in his caste and not being allowed to leave. And how that was stupid and contrived and disparaging Sarah J Maas for it as if it was her original idea. It’s a retelling and that’s literally the premise of beauty and the beast. Like come on…. Fine review otherwise, but don’t pretend my points are invalid.
So him saying what he didn't like about the book is .... not his opinion? But in your opinion it's stupid...? Also I feel like if Maas is going to retell a fairytale it shouldn't take more than one book tbh. It's really not that deep- go Maas for profiting off of five whole books, and I don't think Sam's opinions I'd going to get her any less money or popularity. If it were that deep, I'd bring up the family history of Gabrielle Suzanne de villeneuve 💀
I’m not sure how you saw my title and then expected me to do anything but rant about the book. Like? Sorry for disliking a book you liked I guess. Also the multiple contradictions within your first paragraph alone tell me there is no point in a fun debate with you. Especially since you feel so strongly that you make your counterpoint so rude. Thanks for the engagement though, I hope you find the positive reviews you were clearly looking for.
Please read the rest of the books. Then you will understand why he took her to live with him at his estate and all the other things that didn't make sense in the first book. It's like meeting a person for 2 minutes and decide that you don't like this person's personality before even get to know the person.
the second book was even worse than the first 😂 can only imagine how much worse it gets with even the FANS of the books saying her writing gets worse and worse with every new books she releases
Ive just started reading this (about 10 chapters in) and i agree with everything youve said so far. I dont understand. Feyre feels like a massive Mary Sue and i dont understand why the High Fae would be interested in her at all, or she in them.
@@LoveSam- Awwww thank you so much!
Oh, lord, no. Please not a TV series. Twilight will be resurrected, but with much kink and brooding this time
I'll fling myself off the nearest cliff is this sh*t comes onto TV.... please dont. Spare me the suffering. And yes I read her books and then I wished I unread them....
I really feel you I am someone who wants to be a writer and struggles a lot and this book is just trash its just stupidity and I am begging you do not let it discourage you because anyone with a brain could tell this is stupid this book is so so stupid
everyone says it gets better with the second but like... i tried. i really did. the second was just as bad, just a different type of bad
I’m thinking I’ll probably think the same when I read it too^
The second one legit made me angry. It's like SJM wrote poorly written fanfiction of her own work.
I got 2 chapters in and deleted both of the books off my kindle I was cringing so so hard I cannot
I loved the second book so much, is there reason you dont like it
Finally someone who understands!
Right!! I don't understand the hype. I guess they all like smut but honestly I got enough of that on fanfic sites
“I don’t like the main ship and here are legitimate reasons as to why,”
Rhysand Stans: “YOU TAKE THAT BACK!😤”
Thanks for the interesting review!
I think of him as "Rhyses pieces"
😂😂! Well I hope you achieve all the success in your writing!!
Same here! Like look how little skill and direction you need to write a wildly popular book, I could’ve started my writing and made bank a long time ago lmao! Just write about handsome fairies or whatever and make them do sex, so easy
"That was kind of dumb" Now that's the main summary for this book, isn't it? 😂
100%. I would also add 'why???'
Acotar is the most boring fantasy book I ever read. And most people overhyping it annoys the heck out of me :/ 😂😢😭
I liked your review even though I have not read the book myself. But I've read enough Goodreads 1-star reviews to know that this book isn't worth my time or money. Why is this series so popular? A subpar piece of literature.
😂😂
I don’t blame u in the slightest, I’m still baffled he’s the main love interest too! Also thank you for taking the time to write and share all this 😊
THANK you for this summary, an honest summary because everyone else is afraid to look at this book critically!
Thank you! I guess we will see, whenever i get round to the next ones 😂
All I know is lots of smut in these books 🗿🗿, I can never look at them the same after withcindy's reviews lmaoo
Hahahaha I watched her review too
I was glad when I found her review, because it's like everybody is loving this book and I didn't.
I think it's wild how the fandom and the author treat Rhys and Tam as if Feyre and Tamlin couldn't have worked if they'd just communicated?
“Hey can u help me beat an evil villain” “sure” 😂😂
I didn't like it either. I'm literally on youtube trying to see if I'm an alien cos I felt like the only one out there who didn't like it and didn't get even a smidgen of the hype. I also didn't find any of the men remotely attractive. I felt like I was being told to find them hot but they really didn't do or say anything that made me feel they were. They were just "beautiful" or "handsome", but they weren't hot to me. That's it.
Yeah, I made it through about 20% of this book. I DNFed it hard with no regrets. Thanks for confirming that I made the right decision! 😀
i had to stop reading crescent moon cuz of the constant head hopping. maybe i do have a chance at being a writer if books written like that are being published lol
You so do!!! Wishing you all the best with your works 😊
Thank god for this video. While I read the book I just kept thinking
"This? This is what people think good books are?"
Like I had just finished the Twice Dead King duology, difficult books to get into I know, but they were really good.
That’s an awfully thin book for so many plot lines lol
Meanwhile, book 3 onwards had me going "why the heck is this a doorstopper, there's barely any plot there". The pacing in ACOTAR as a whole is just... yeeesh.
My thoughts exactly.
What do you mean the girl just killed your mate and you’re like ‘k you can just move in with me’ ???
The whole plot seemed so unnatural
I just read it myself I binged it in a day... I have so much regret
😂 How could u get through all that in just one day!!
I don't think I would necessarily recommend this series, but you're going to read it, here's the best way to do it:"
1. Read Book 1 (because you have to)
2. Read Book 2 (which is actually a pretty good book)
3. Read Part 1 of Book 3
End
Now I'm just thinking Rhysand is based off of Sebastian from The Mortal Instruments?? He also was the Fae Queen's lover and I think he was manipulating everyone around because she had the most power... and he did the evil rune on Jace to control his mind...omg I hate the series even more 😂
Noooo but why does that kinda hold 😂😂
I think I'd go nuts over the many issues you brought up in the book, 😆
Anyway, please read and do a review on HEAVEN OFFICIAL'S BLESSING by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu.
@@LoveSam- Strangely we are suppose to swoon over toxic guys... I don't buy it 😂
A trend that I hope the book community grows out of soon!
Enjoyed the review! My Girlfriend recommended me the book and I enjoy a good fantasy romance type book from time to time so I figured I would read it and its a good thing I listened to a audio version of it because I probably wouldnt have finished it otherwise lol I thought the writing was just poor and the majority of things just didnt make sense.
i think i didn’t like how ACOTAR started but i was hella invested when it came to ACOWAR
It only gets worse... for me, ACOTAR was the best... next was worse.. i don't like the MC (Feyre) at all 😕 only Lucien i liked
My expectations 📉😂
I preferred the nameless one wyrm a million times over that literal worm in acotar 🤣
I also have to say something that really struck me was the lack of emotional development for Feyre.
I STRUGGLED with the ACOMAF. 600+ pages was unnecessary. I thought the romance was kinda corny.
I acc agree like the first and second book put me off so much
Not "dumb, dull, and delusional"! 😅😅
Here’s a like n subscribe ta help ya thrive and keep up the good fight sir
Fair! I think the confusion with the name comes from the fan base tbf as I often hear people say his name differently 😅
I have found my people here! I have two friends that gab about this series endlessly and hyped it up to me. I found SJM repetitive, superficial, and cringey. It wasnt good, at all.
I tried to read after tog as well and it’s just not as good. I really loved throne of glass
Agreed. TOG is superior to everything else she's written.
I hate the age gaps too like wthhhh
Thank god I saw this. Don’t want to waste my money
If Lucien had gone I swear it would have been a much more civil interaction. He would have been so sarcastic about the whole thing
If not for the sequels this book wouldn't be half as bad as it is now in the context of all that happens later, IMHO. The first book is not great, but later ones are worse
I agree with this 100%
MC name is Feyre? Hard no. What’s up with the ridiculous names????
Fantasy for ya 😂
Plus, it totally rips off The Black Jewel series by Anne Bishop.
Yup. I read the whole series (audiobook so I could background read it behind gaming) so I'd get the memes... but Holy hell... they alllllllllllll need therapy, every single character 😂
TOG I'm enjoying tho. Altho the misogyny is making me look sideways at it at times. Looking at you Chaol 👀 "too unpredictable", nah fool you just butthurt.
Literally!! Chaol started so strong and then he just 📉📉 Tog was just more fun then ACOTAR, definitely had its problems but at least it was enjoyable
@LoveSam- for sure! I'm really enjoying the whole GoT aspects of ToG.
They basically published an average boring on boring fanfic book.
“the answer is love” took me out 💀💀
Honestly I didn't really hate the first ACOTAR. I could respect it for what it was trying to be and just dismiss the third act as Amarantha being legit insane. It's the next two books that were flaming piles of trash.
🔥😂😂
@@LoveSam- Fun fact: Apparently Sarah J. Maas used to be big into writing Sailor Moon fanfiction. After I remembered that it suddenly dawned on me that Amarantha is a straight up copy/paste of Queen Beryl.
Oh really? I’ve never seen Sailor Moon but i can believe that 😂
I picked it up and put it down after the first few paragraphs, it was just awful
Edit: please do a review on the mortal instruments :D
The fandom is fucking awful. The fandom alone has completely turned me off of this series.
That’s valid. I wouldn’t say the whole fandom though, just the people that refuse to accept others have different opinions then them.
18:12 THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nobody talks about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't get me started on 'I loosed a breath'
i actually liked rhysand as a love interest, I thought tamlin was too perfect, I liked that rhysand was a bit darker but then he got way too cheesy towards the end of the series
Just finished ACOWAR and agree that Tamlin was so cheesy 😂 it felt like Maas didn’t know what to do with him after the first book 1!
Oh dear
Believe me, the next books get a lot better. It's not top-tier literature by any means, but the characters that you'll soon be introduced to are wonderful, and will make reading it worth it. ☺
That’s good to hear, I need some more likable characters!
This is a horrible series. I only bought the second book ACOMAF. I checked out the others from my library.
I actually really enjoyed the book! Its interesting to see all the different takes on ACOTAR
I tried. Read the first one. Trash
@@nimrah3341the retelling wasn’t 5 books. The retelling was only one book. This book. The book he’s reviewing. Weird counterpoint…
I’ve read up till ACOFAS and I firmly despise Rhysand still 😂😅
the second book was even worse than the first 😂 can only imagine how much worse it gets with even the FANS of the books saying her writing gets worse and worse with every new books she releases
Ive just started reading this (about 10 chapters in) and i agree with everything youve said so far. I dont understand. Feyre feels like a massive Mary Sue and i dont understand why the High Fae would be interested in her at all, or she in them.
Thank God I'm not the only one who didn't like this series lol
Sure feels like that some times 😅
I tried to read after tog as well and it’s just not as good. I really loved throne of glass
ToG had something going for it, and had interesting elements too
