Your attention to detail is incredible. This diorama is a beast, even without the Manta!
I'm honestly a little afraid to paint and add the manta hahah
@@SquidmarMiniatures I totally get that! But paint bravely, Team Squidmar!
Except the scale of those tools on that table - get rid of them and either shrink them, since you resin printed them anyway. And wouldn't the tools be more alien as well as to scale...
@@TheSifuDean I've seen bigger irl ;)
@@SquidmarMiniatures Even the largest claw hammer is still only 33cm in length and same for longest adjustable wrench the longest is only 76cm in length but that's also a specialized wrench that has very specific use cases, a standard length is 38cm.
I'd like to know more about Lucas's fishing passion. I've never seen rods that long, except maybe for deep sea fishing? I'm not into fishing by any means, but the longest poles I used were only about 10 feet for lake fishing
Really long rods aren't usually used for deep sea fishing, instead you use a really thick and stiff fishing rod not much longer than 7 or 8ft max so you can cast without hitting the boat or other people and haul up fish from the deep. That long rod he's got is probably a river shore rod, probably meant for carp.
Also, 10 ft is pretty long, usually you see 10-12ft rods for beach fishing. Most in shore and fresh water rod is about 5 to 7ft.
Beach fishing. You need to lob that mofo far!
Literally want just a Lucas fishing video.
I doubt you even seen deep sea fishing rods if you think you can compare the two. Deep sea fishing rods are usually shorter because you reel off the side of a boat meaning you don’t need to fling the line as far. Normal fishing rods are longer so you can fish on a lake shore and have no problem getting you line far enough out
@@eianstraight9698 I went deep sea fishing about 14 years ago, I was 12-13 and spent the entire trip in the cabin sleeping off sea sickness lol. I was thinking longer and stronger material for deeper catch, but I can see I was dead wrong
Some birds and nests on the cliffs would really help and some life and atmosphere. Loving the series.
My argument to repaint Steve blue is not the lore, it's that he blends with his background at the moment. The rhino is red, there's brown colors all around... If he was blue he would pop out much more.
hes literally wearing blue armor??????
I agree, his skin colour being blue would also mean that he himself (as opposed to his gear or armour) stands out more in this environment, this world. He is an alien on this world as well.
I feel the same way. The blue would make him stand out a bit more against the rhino
I motion on this aswell
but steve is sunburned doesn't matter your original skin colour.
Im so glad Ive been able to watch this project get better and better its looking so good
we're just happy people enjoy it!
That crab needs a food bowl!
Or a Top Hat and Monocle ;)
These guys have been working their ass off for 7 years and 11 months and 12 hours and it only took half a year. Incredible.
They are obviously more than the 2 we see in the videos.
@@ThomasGallinari Even if there were 20 of them, working 24 hours a day each, it would take over five months!
Wooosh
@@juusokanttura4533 That's one hell of a wooosh...
Are you planning any lighting coming from the manta? It would be a shame to lose all the detail of the cove due to the manta’s shadow (and it also seems reasonable that the survivor might rig up some artificial lighting shining down from the ship, for nighttime)
I feel like some kind of dark or black wooden frame to cover the foam outside would be a great finish. Maybe some woodworking channel wants to help with that...
Fly fishing = Longer rod for whip casting.
Beach fishing = Longer rod for getting past the break.
Boat or jetty fishing = shorter rod for tighter casting zone.
Whilst having a long rod is by no means incorrect I do think for where he is fishing the length of rod is unwieldy and a tad long :)
It's not the length that is out of scale, it is the width due to the material. Then again, Warhammer is HERO scale, so if that guy is fishing with a 15 foot tree trunk, props for him. 😁
@@TheNeelonRokk very true! The poor sod is having a bad enough time without us judging the length or girth of his rod 😂
It's absolutely not long. Feeders tend to be long
4:10 - this shot is perfect illustration of how much sound adds to the illusion of the image. Great job! 🦀
lol so as it turns out the T'au do have a word for heresy and it's "Fu'koff I'lik it" and I think that's beautiful
lol
I love this diorama so much but I just died with the whole fishing rod scene. "You're wrong" I died laughing and loved it so much. I dont get why people want to tell you how to do your project like... suggestions are great and can help the creative process but people are a little aggressive with their suggestions.
Graphic designer of 15 years here, I'd be happy to mock up a bunch of posters (propaganda or otherwise) for your builds in the future. In case you don't feel like hand painting them!
All the same amazing work dudes, seriously!
I feel immortalized with my name being added to the graveyard lol. I appreciate it very much gentleman. I love your content way to much to not support you guys!
Doode, you have no idea how much it means
This is why you guys are the best you actually listen to community. Love your guys videos thanks for all the entertainment and help becoming a better painter! Absolute amazing project!
I'm still hoping you guys pull off the waterfall coming out of the crashed manta, idk why but my mind keeps going to that one idea every time I see a new update video on this amazing built.
PS: Thank you for fixing the Tau letters in the manta. lol

You can put some poster in a lab))
According to a Ciaphas Cain book, Tau blood is blue because theirs hemoglobin is based on cobalt instead of iron like humans
Interesting, according to the farsight books, its red. i guess you have a few contradictions when you have lore that deep
@@roamlangevin4582 GW has also explicitely said to paint it on as red in miniatures because it just looks better on blue skin if the blood is red. It being called blue is now written off as "imperial propaganda"
Edit: also cobalglobin in 4eality would make blood clear with a pinkish hue when exposed to oxygen, and veins would be amber. So not even their "cobalt based hemoglobin" makes the blood blue.
@@anniebae7049 tbf cain doesn't actually care, though remember the 1st cain book was 2006 and things have changed since then
I've read the book and must have mentally corrected it to copper rather than cobalt.
Heamocyanin is actually blue due to copper being present. This is an actual thing hand horseshoe crabs have it. Fun fact, they're milked for their blood.
@@laam999 it’s crazy how horseshoe crabs have sped up medical science, plus they’re older than dinosaurs
Every Video brings not only closer to the final piece but also to having a great full series to re-watch. Loved every Episode so far.
That fishing line hurts me a lot. It is so long and looks like it's having some momentum, but already hit the water
agreed, it doesn't look natural as is.
It just gets better and better! Can't wait to see the finished product!
Excellent job. This has been one of my favorite series so far. Thankyou for changing some of the script.
To go the extra mile with the crab you could hollow out a drone and use it for the crabs shell.
this whole thing is insane, the work and detail are just phenomenal
I love this series so much, you guys are doing amazing work - keep it up!
A+ work guys, I love how you take our suggestions, but also put us in our place when needed! (But seriously, chat is always right)
Oh man, if would be so dope if you had Wilson the crab carrying something gene stealer related that it had found while it was in the water and was bringing it back to show the tau.
Genuinely on of my favourite videos of this series. Like a hi-lights real of this crazy awesome build!
The fact you sunk so much time in this project still amazes me. I have a hard time just sitting down for a few hours to make one Mini.
Now get Lucas to hold a fishing rod that's 5.5m, consistently the diameter of his arm and made of wood lol. Jokes aside, obviously what you've done here is incredible. Can't wait to see the manta and who knows, maybe salmon Tau will catch on.
Amazing, loving the diorama, hope you make more in the future!
It’s coming out great. The little details add a lot to the overall impact
Lukasz's brush control and painting skill where he makes so much look so easy- just calmly blazes through stuff that would take a lot of my focus and time, bravo sir!
he's great!
@@SquidmarMiniatures Lukas, stop hacking into the Squidmar account, we know it's you!
@@RepublicOfUs he's not allowed on the internet after work hours. 🥳
Awesome video guys, I love this Manta project. It's really looking cool 👍 u guys are killing it!
The Tau being red can easily be explained as a reaction on that world. Maybe there is an odd mixture to the air or some sort of hormone in the food he is eating.
Maybe he has a really bad sunburn
Maybe Wilson is slowly turning him into a crab.
Or they're simply wearing face/body paint to hide themselves or otherwise blend to the local environment.
I really like the vibrancy of the colours you use in this diorama, used some of it to paint a test model for my 30k DG!
Absolutely awesome, great job so far guys! But....... that red Tau though.
This build is epic, you guys have done an excellent job so far!
+1 to adding a nearby weapon on standby for the Tau survivor. Probably would have spare powerpacks/ ammo in the manta. This world seems hella spicy to be sitting about fishing while defenseless! Amazing project regardless!!!
Squidy your production quality lately has been amazing. Massive props!
That crab elevated the whole diorama to an 11/10.
Let’s go, I’ve been waiting for this episode. Good job guys 👍🏻
You guys are so fun to watch (and great artists)!
Wonderful project.
I would have gone for a light blue tau as it would have been a better contrast and more visible against the background, apart from closer to lore. That being said it’s a beautiful thing that you do.
Really awesome and a nice gesture that you put in your top patreons names! Can't wait to see the end result
This Manta series is something i rewatch when I'm painting my minis. Funny enough i was stuck on what to do with the paint job i was doing and i looked over and Squidmar what sponging the metal onto the Tau's pilot cryo/bacta tube and that helped me find what was missing in my paint job.
Also The Manta is going to LOOK SO FRICKING GOOD
Man thats awesome! Tag me when you post it on IG so i can see :)
Amazing. I love it. I didn't even noticed what the others asked but it's really adding a lot of realism to the diorama. Brilliant.
I think the problem with the fishing rod isn't that is too long, its the chunkiness, maybe a thinner branch would look better?
Yeah I feel that as well. The commercial rods are carbon fiber and weigh basically nothing. The one the tau has looks like an uprooted tree.
@@AKKK1182 Big Fish Clubbah more an Orc thing really.
The real problem is the size of the body of water to the fishing rod, the very long rod he pulls put isn't exactly a mere stick, with the strength of a stick it needs to be shorter or else it will snap
Love the series, can't wait for what's next!
A snowball of awesomeness. Just keep getting better and better.
I just love how even after almost 8 years you don't give up on it!
Please have sly marbo just hiding in the brush camouflaged so people will be surprised to find him
The diorama looks amazing so far.
However I would love to see a camouflaged lictor hidden somewhere close to the tau soldier, ready to strike.
Its there, cant you see it?
@@SquidmarMiniatures he can't the lictor's time is now.
@@SquidmarMiniatures oh no... Your mini painting skills are beyond my expectations.
I must look harder!
The lictor is next to the purple Ork
Sometimes less is more
I really like you fixin up things. I was immediately bothered by the amount of vibrant orange of the rusty roof of the rhino, it seems to me that it should be dulled down a bit. Especially since there is still some grey on it, so its a too stark contrast. Keep up the good work!
Can we get an episode where we learn a little more about the teams lives irl? Discovering Lucas's love of fishing has only been more intriguing than anything.
I still think the diorama needs to have some greater hints as to what felled the manta in the first place, shot to engine? Canopy? Sabotage? Sure the wing is broke but that happened on landing.
Yep, the diorama its telling the current story, but it needs to tell something about the crash to be complete
It doesn't NEED anything. It's gotta be one of if not the coolest 40k diarama ever. If you WANT other things added, that's a different story ;)
@@WinterknightSC I agree
Yes, it's certainly cool, but it's not immune to constructive criticism just cause it's dope as hell.
Some solid work! love the corrections
Looks awesome. These extra steps have added so much to it.
Tip for next time, if you need small tools and such, check out train modeling stuff. The have so many proper scaled items.
The life in the lake is still my favourite part of the diorama! So cool!
Recently found your channel and wow... such detail and can't wait to apply to my own miniatures.
I think using a black 3.0 by stuart semple on the edges of the diaorama will really make everything thats underground pop out of the surrounding foam and hide any texture, as its such a pure black
we'll get there ;)
We need one last thing now, Lucas fishing videos!! Not only he is an amazing painter but also a fishing bro, Lucas the gift that keeps on giving..
an absolute banger, as always! great work!
Now we need someone to animate the diorama and have it as a background for a lofi hip hop beat stream
This I peak diorama, it has just been so so amazing and inspiring to watch this all come together piece by piece
@@SquidmarMiniatures your welcome, always a pleasure to watch your work
Incredible as always! Love it!
Such a cool build! You guys do amazing work. Only thing I would add is the black edges of the foam don’t blend in well with the whole piece. Maybe some rock texture and paint?
Looks absolutely beast, I'll be putting in the hours to get to your skill level. One thing I thought though is the inner circle of the Tau symbol on the yellow roof of the hut looks a bit small.
I think a camp fire with fish on skewers for the tau would be cool!
Great idea:)
This is such a cool concept! Listening to your fans :)
Love seeing Lucas go sicko mode on all the people saying the fishing rod was too long
This was awesome. Keep up the good work.
I love this build, it's incredible. The fact that the water level is somehow lower in the cave than the pond is killing me though. 😂
as a hydrogeologist, I can confirm that a different water level in the cave is possible, likely even. If the cave is airtight (i.e. no cracks or fissures connecting to the outside atmosphere) above the level of passage to the lake, then the air pocket in the cave will stop the hydrostatic level equilibrating with the lake level. The lads have done good, and it looks amazing.
Sean you're such a savior ☺️
Given all the resin was poured at the same time I would suggest it found the right level in the cave.
Air pockets are a thing.
@@SquidmarMiniatures so an airtight cave was my first thought, done a fair bit of hydro/geo myself as a Civil Engineer. My second was how did a Space Marine get in there? He didn't swim up there in power armour. Means that cave has some kind of entrance, so it can't be airtight. Water should be same level as the lake. 😂
Incredible piece though. I couldn't even visualize something like that let alone have the skills to do it.
besides the awesome craft and creativity, always love your choice of music!
Amazing.. but I think you should repaint the swimming Tyranid
XD
I love the mic drop moment with the fishing rod length
Love your videos, keep on going! 🤙🏻
This project is so glorious!
Fantastic, it looks awesome and you got to do that 3D scan of your diorama.
So good!! Thank you!
This series is crazy
This is absolutly awesome !
I've done all sorts of fishing and was legitimately confused by those super long fishing rods Lucas has but apparently those are useful for lures that go deeper with longer casts.
Never used those myself because pull fishing is just OP.
They all have their purpose:)
i love the series and will gladly admit that i have used it to try and get my partner interested in miniature painting (funnily enough, she's way into water effects and grass tufts now. I wonder how that happened). Wilson the crab going for the ramen bowl is such a great detail and really adds to the diorama's character. It gives the sense that the diorama isn't just a snap shot of what has happened before and what is happening now; but that things are going to continue to happen after the scene unfreezes (same goes for the gaunt going for the lure, for example).
The diaroma is absolutely a masterpiece and is without a doubt my favourite hobby project I've ever seen come to life. As much as i love the guys at "Play On Tabletop", i think it's safe to say that you've blown them out of the water (or rather, the manta out of the sky?) on this one. Sorry Tau nick ❤️.
If you guys are still open to suggestions the only things id contribute are as follows;
1. The firewarrior needs a weapon at arms reach. He hasn't made it this long as the sole survivor of his hunter cadre on a tyranid and GSC infested planet by taking chances. Real soldiers always have a weapon at hand while deployed in hostile territory. It doesn't matter if you're eating, sleeping or sending a brown canoe down the river; you have something at arms reach. I think a battered pulse carbine or rifle slung over his back with a strap or resting at his side would complete the picture. alternatively a looted cultists autogun with tau attachments and modifications could be fun?
2. Id love to see some more hints at just HOW this firewarrior has survived this long. Id like to think that it's because he, above all of his comrades, is a stone cold badass rather than just lucky. Maybe he has managed to rig up a burst canon on a tripod and a powerpack to use as an emplaced heavy weapon to defend his very exposed camp with? maybe hes created some looney toon-esque baited booby traps and drone linked tripwires? maybe he has some trophies around the camp he's taken from dead nids? maybe he's found ways to turn chitin and claws into usable tools or furniture? or maybe there are some burnt out corpses of gaunts around the camp that didn't manage to quite get the drop on him and are now being overgrown by vegetation?
He is camped literally below the crash site of the biggest vehicle we can access so he isn't hiding. He must be doing SOMETHING to have made it this far where all others failed and i think that's a very fun opportunity for a story to tell visually.
3. lastly, Lucas did such a great job with the tool set that its such a shame to not see the idea expressed in the finished product. The great thing about 3d printing is that you can scale a model to any size. put a reference model of a firewarrior or a space marine (there are hundreds available for free online) into your slicer program and scale the tool set to fit with these before printing (im sure you are more than capable, but if you'd like to save some time, id be happy to modify and support the files for you). I know it sucks having to redo something you've already done but i think it would suck even more to leave off such a fun little detail.
Y’all make me happy
Come in for the miniature painting but stay for the fishing lessons. I’m Canadian 🇨🇦 and have been fishing 🎣 in lakes and rivers all my life. I never saw a fishing rod like that. Clearly you guys in Sweden 🇸🇪 have a different take on the sport. Would love to learn more. Cheers 🍻
Pole fishing is very common in Europe. The one thing that is "Off" is that there is a reel on said monster pole. I've not seen one with a reel before
@@Barballs It must be one hell of a skill to use a pole that long. I’m going to have to look it up. Cheers 🍻
so cool to see how u read comments and want to make it as great as you can. As fan of fishing found whole rod debate so funny
This is going to look epic
wop wop :D
This looks so cool. Just amazing honestly. But, the Fire Warrior should have a weapon somewhere. Either a pulse rifle leaning up against the rhino, or a club propped up nearby.
Looks amazing
The questions about the fishing rod is interesting, the "rod" produced was what we in Britain call a "Pole". The difference is that a "pole" has a fixed length of line fixed to an elastic to manage the shocks of a fish fighting. A rod is traditionally shorter and is attached to a reel loaded with line. The rod and line is used to manage the shocks. The fish would be fought and then reeled in, with a "pole" it's usual to reduce it's length as the fish gets closer to the angler, by reducing the length of the pole, by removing sections. Subtle difference, but important. The Tau character using a stick, would find it almost impossible to land anything he caught because of the length of the the stick and no way of getting the fish closer to the bank.
Oh hell yes! This is awesome!
A small detail maybe add like a small log pile and like 2 or 3 small tree stumps around the campsite? I think it would be a nice little detail
The graves are amazing (as everything else is)!
It's really cool seeing what's in your workshop, any chance of a tour?
1:43 The disco lighting LOL
Oh, to own a 3D printer... Awesome video, and fantastic art work as per usual. Very enjoyable.
The Trust face was painted red when he killed the former resident of the rhino. Found a baby crab hatchling and kept his face red to not be on the receiving end of a Krabnos rampage
On the tools. Earth Caste folx are beefier. Makes sense that some tools might be larger than seems appropriate. 🤷🏻♂️
Love how this is coming along. Inspiration for a diorama I want to make
