  • In today's video, I share my journey with therapy and mental health. Growing up it therapy wasn't something my parents talked about or supported. A lot of the support and mental health advice given was around seeking God and prayer, but I knew I needed something else. I'm finally at a place where I am openly talking about my mental health needs with my family and working to remove this taboo that exists in our Latinx community.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and throughout the month, I will be sharing different videos on the topic.
    ----
Message on Mental Health Awareness Month from NAMI:
Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. During May, NAMI joins the national movement to raise awareness about mental health. Each year we fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families.
For 2021’s Mental Health Awareness Month NAMI will continue to amplify the message of “You Are Not Alone.” ... Together, we can realize our shared vision of a nation where anyone affected by mental illness can get the appropriate support and quality of care to live healthy, fulfilling lives - a nation where no one feels alone in their struggle.

During my parent's divorce and custodial battle, I remember my mom telling me and my brother someone is going to watch you play. I was so weirded out and until this day I remember the questions the psychologist asked us. The way our memory works that I remember so far back!

Thank you for sharing about such an important, but difficult, topic! We never know what other people are going thru. PREACH about therapists needing to understand culture to understand one's true self 🙌🏽

Thank you for your transparency ! Finding a therapist that understands your upbringing and culture is so important. As a therapist myself, I listen to my gut when another therapist is not making me comfortable or just telling me to get over my feelings over separation from my parents.
