  • The new Morph Cut transition blends, or morphs, two different frames together to create a seamless cut. If you experience any stuttering during playback with a Morph Cut transition then there are a few steps you can take to make it work.

    Just getting started with Premiere Pro CC 2019 and editing a non-actor reading script with a steady backdrop. Lots of do-overs and pause/read more sections that had to be razored out, including the separate audio track from his boom mic. This technique is exactly what I need to smooth out all the cuts. Thank you!

      Well, I had limited success with this. Of the 7 cuts needed this transition for 2 of them kept saying "Analyzing in background" on the screen. My laptop cannot run HW acceleration so I figured it was just horsepower during preview. Well, even the published MP4 output has the black box with "Analyzing in background" burned into the video. :-(

      Yes, Morph Cut requires a lot of horse power to render. Nothing you can do about it other than wait or add more power. It's amazing when it works.

      There are no updates. The whole idea is that it's supposed to do exactly that, keep the static things static. I find it fails on many shots but when it does work it's like magic.

I (half) expected this to work in the same way....

    Morph Cut is incredibly unstable just as a word of warning. It is a good tool when it works, but so often I have encountered exporting failures because Morph Cut is unstable. Use with caution

    • @VideoRevealed
      @VideoRevealed  6 років тому +1

      Morph Cut has two completely different ways of calculating the effect; CPU or GPU. I would say that the GPU is more apt to have issues due to GPU drivers always in flux. My recommendation is to turn off GPU acceleration when using Morph Cut. Also, Adobe has updated this effect in newer versions of Premiere Pro so that's worth a try.

  • @AntonioJMPrado

    Dear Colin Smith
    I applied this Morph Cut transition into three diferent places in a 41 minute video and I got the software render error message number 512 at the very moment the system reached the first one of the three places at the timecode 00:14:00:23.
    I was taken by surprise because I had already applied this transition before in another video, much shorter, with no problems while rendering.
    The only way I succeeded in rendering was by removing all Morph Cut transitions. Fortunately they were only three.
    Have you already been told of something like that before? If so, did you recommend any action to avoid this error?
    Thanks for your help
    Antonio from Sao Paulo - Brazil

    • @VideoRevealed
      @VideoRevealed  4 роки тому +1

      The rendered files from transitions can become corrupt and sometimes you need to change the Renderer in the Project Settings to clear out the preview files. I change from GPU to Software and back and it useful fixes any issues.
      The Morph Cut is notoriously tricky and it only works if the cuts are very similar.

  • @HRS2910

    Wow, great tutorial. Keep up the good work, however, I tried Morph cut in my interview, and it looked great But when I tried to render the final video, it would crash Premiere Pro 2017. Tried many different ways but in the end I gave up and removed the Morph. Any way getting around it?

    • @VideoRevealed
      @VideoRevealed  6 років тому +1

      My guess is the crash was caused by a GPU error. You could change the Project Settings to Software Only (which bypasses the GPU) or update your graphics card drivers.

    Hi, I'm having a problem with the morph transition... If I'm applying it on my original footage file it works just fine... but I'm creating a nest sequence (or a sub sequence I tried both and makes no difference). This nest sequence contains my footage and one adjustment layer, with an ultrakey effect and a LUT. When I'm trying to use the morph transition on this nest sequence it gives me an error, saying "Error reading node property". Should I always make my cuts first and then applying the adjustment layers? this would be possible but a little troublesome.
    Thank you for your contend and for being such an accessible person.
    Leonardo Trigueiro

    • @VideoRevealed
      @VideoRevealed  8 років тому +2

      Morph Cut Transition uses a face recognition technology and it's best to keep the two clips as clean and original as possible so apply it to the clips, not a nest. If you need to add any affects, do it after with an adjustment layer or nested sequence.

      @@VideoRevealed Adobe has been aware of this problem of seeing "error reading node property" on morph cuts in nested sequences for almost as long as morph cut has been available. They acknowledge it as a bug but obviously have no interest in fixing it. Resolve, on the other hand, has no difficulty handling situations like this so I've stopped using Premiere's morph cut.

      It looks like you do a lot of cycling videos, so why not shoot from a moving vehicle? I don't imagine you can do that in an actual race, but you can do that to add interesting footage. What if you shot the course the day before and used that footage with the race footage? Or what about changing your position to somewhere higher for some shots? That will give you a unique perspective. Also, wear one of those bright construction vests so no one will bother you because you look "official". It's a tactic shooters use to get access where they normally aren't allowed.
      As the editor, your job is to serve the story so your options are limited with editing the same footage shot the same way. But if you spice up the shots, then you'll have more to choose from.
      Tell more of a story. Use animated maps (I have a tutorial on that). All that will get your creative juices flowing.

    Colin, I know you'll answer questions, but I don't know if you'll take the time to look at a video clip and offer a solution. Lemme give it a try. If you'll go to my video at ua-cam.com/video/h5OPUCMFNlQ/v-deo.html then go to the very last ten seconds, I have two clips that I wanted to blend better than I did. I think it's possible, but I resigned myself to just using the default transition. That didn't work very well. Is there a transition or effect that will better stitch these two clips together? Many thanks!

    • @VideoRevealed
      @VideoRevealed  6 років тому +1

      There are no automatic tools to blend the vehicle like that. The Morph Cut Transition needs facial recognition to work, so that's out of the question.
      The "Hollywood" way to blend these two files is to "morph" them. Morphing software used to be very popular but I don't even know who makes one anymore. What morphing will do is designate matching points on each part of the car and distort them. So the right headlight ends up landing on the right headlight of the next clip and the frames blend perfectly. It's very hard work to do correctly. Anyone can do a crappy morph job, but to make it seamless is an art form.
      Here's a scene in the making of Forest Gump (sorry for the poor quality). The feather had to be morphed to land at Forest's foot.

    This is horrible advice for interviews because it is unethical if you're making non-fiction. Viewers should know there's a cut when someone is speaking if you are making a documentary or if you're a journalist. Journalists and documentaries will always make cuts like this obvious.

      VideoRevealed, I suspect you’re being polite, but don’t take the point too far because it’s far too general. There certainly exist situations where it _could_ be unethical, but there are far more where it’s not only fine as far as ethics goes, the cutting is the only thing making the thing viewable and without them many interviewees would be pissed off at the edit! But you knew all that. 🙂

      You see, that is the issue. The majority of this video was useless content that you skipped through most of it to see the part that actually matter. The only issue with that is one wouldn't know whether he makes useful comments throughout the video or not.
      Keep in mind that this video was to teach people how to cut out stammers, buzzwords, and useless content, which he shouldn't have had in his video. It did the opposite.
