Hi! What about in pregnancy? I am taking prenatal vitamins and has 30mcg Biotin. Does this doses impact my TSH? Is it okay if I keep taking my vitamins with Biotin and do my blood test?
So you answered my question about when to stop taking supliment before blood draw , I was premature to asking . THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS INFORMATION WITH ALL OF US AND KEEP UP WITH NEW INFORMATION WHEN IT COMES AROUND , ID TRUELY APPRECIATE IT !!
I was tested one month ago and my TSH was very low. I was taking Claritin with decongestant and Biotin supplements. I will retake in one month and see how it looks without the supplements. Thank you, my endo did not mention this to me.
Thanks a ton Doctor ...I think now I have the answers to why the annual check up of my son showed a depressed TSH when all other values were normal ... Will get panel done after 15 days stoping all supplements before a week ...Thanks again
I’ve been off thyroid meds for almost a year. My labs have been fine. For 18 years before then I was taking thyroid meds. My Dr. , who I fired. Continued to raise my meds and I landed in the hospital with a-fib. That was back in 2016. I’ve been fine with my labs since I have stopped taking meds.
Good day to you, @@drwestinchilds, &, while I'm addressing you, thank you for the work you do on these important medical matters to bring forth actual truths. The Lord Jesus bless you for your efforts. Now, if the matter is such as you say, namely that cholesterol problems are an early sign of thyroid problems, then the liver is definitely implicated in this physiological dysfunction as well then, correct?
Sorry that your health struggles have been what they've been, @@ellensullivan3399, while at the same time glad that you have been able to wean yourself off medications that require ongoing prescriptions for one to even be able to take them, ie. they cannot be grown by the consumer, or, for that matter, purchased in a grocery store.
My daughter was recently diagnosed with Graves Disease but she was on biotin so now I wonder. Would this also cause all the thyroid antibody testing to have false positives as well? Hers were very high hence they think it's autoimmune. Thank you in advance if you can respond. Thank you.
Im a bariatric patient. Iv'e been taking an extra supplement of Biotin along with Hair Skin and Nails,Collagen plus my regular Bariatric Vitamin. I recently went to the Dr feeling extra fatigue and having a little hair loss. My labs came back TSH and my T3 were both normal. My T4 was slightly elevated. I was told to stop taking Biotin and to come back to have my labs redrawn. Since my last bloodraw and me stopping taking Biotin my hair has grown back but now im having Hot Flashes. Now I'm wondering if I'm just going through Menopause.
Excellent!! Thanks! My Doctor thinks I have a hyperactive thyroid as my TSH has come back low. I dont have any symptoms except atrial flutter. I was taking biotin for skin and nails when I got the blood test. He sent me for antibody tests. When the results come back what happens then?!
Hello, Dr. Childs! I got my yearly labs done in January and everything was in range. I also got an STD panel done , which included HIV and Hepatitis C screenings. Everything was negative. I read that if you have taken Biotin, that it can cause interference with an HIV and Hep C test and cause a false-negative. I’m wondering if my small dose of Biotin may have given a false-negative result. I did not consume the supplement on the day of the blood drawing, and it had been since 10:00am the day before since my last (0.4mg) dose. What do you think?
I wonder if it destroyed my test for hashimotos/antibodies last year?got extreme hairloss(wear wigs)been on high dose biotin when the labtests were done were told they looked normal got lots of symptoms that point in the direction of hashimotos also its in my family so dont know now??but now im on Fin,and been seeing different hairloss specialist and derms(they took no biopsies..)all confirmed its Aga/the diffuse type..I am a F37
Going through exactly this right now. In 2015 and 2017 my TSH levels were at 2. A week ago they came back at 4.17. I was using 100 mcg biotin in my prenatal. Is it possible this had an effect? It’s not that high of a dosage. My t4 and antibodies came back all in healthy range. Thank you!
Wow! I have the same question. I'm trying to conceive. I'm in my two weeks waiting and I think I am pregnant. I've been taking my prenatal for about six months, with 30mcg Biotin. I have my thyroid blood test in few days. I'm afraid to stop taking my vitamins when is not really necessary.
@@irmaebochs-homeloans6597 Since that comment I got pregnant and already have an 8mo! I'm in Canada and here the doctor explained that Biotin will not interfere with thyroid tests. I personally would not stop taking it.
@@Katigee26 Yes. I decided to not stop the prenatal after some research yesterday. Especially it is only 30mcg Biotin. Thank you Kristen! Congrats on your baby!👶❤
Would collagen interfere? I have been using powdered collagen for about 7 months every morning in my coffee. I have also been taking biotin and it might have interfered with the lab test I had 3 months ago. I had a TSH test done again this morning and the only thing I have taken for the last week is collagen.
The collagen I take has biotin in it. I had my thyroid checked, and my levels indicated my thyroid was high. I am having my 3rd thyroid test the end of the month. I am making g sure there is not an error and have already stopped talking the collagen. I will see how the numbers are.

Thanks, I have all the symptoms have for years. Just now seeing this and I had more blood work yesterday. So I’m calling my doc asap in the morning and waiting 5 days as I take high doses of biotin due to all my hair loss.
Amy Lesher, to my knowledge, in generally, I believe it is said to refrain from taking the dose you would normally take on the day in which you are going in for your bloodwork. Moreover, I seem to recall that this was the recommendation of Dr. Childs himself on this matter. I would probably say to type in, say, "take or do not take thyroid medication before labwork" in the UA-cam search engine, attaching Dr. Childs' name to the phrase, if you want, or leave it general so as to net more results, which results will likely have him in it, anyway. All the best, & be blessed. 🙏🏼
@@fiery.mercaba Thank you… I researched it before seeing your comment and found some articles stating to have the labs drawn 4 hours after taking NDT. I’m not sure if Dr. Childs agrees with that or not…? :)
I'm not sure I understand your question. Conventional doctors consider any TSH which is outside of the reference range to be abnormal and this range is defined on your lab results.

Is it a different time frame for children? Say, for a 5 year old? I was told children metabolize vitamins quicker.
Would you say biotin still affects TSH test reading if stopped at least a day or 2 before blood test?
It may, but 2-3 days is probably sufficient for most people. If you are taking a particularly high dose of biotin you may want to consider 5 days.
