One thing that is overlooked is British civility. We spent 5 weeks around England last summer and I think people are very civil (albeit not as openly gregarious as Americans). On my many walks on footpaths, if I saw teenagers coming toward me, I would brace myself, expecting the insolence, brashness, or just complete ignoring me as they walked by. Quite the contrary, I got hellos from them and when I was going through a footpath gate, they’d hold the gate open for me. Very refreshing. Obviously it isn’t as prevalent in London or other cities, but in the small towns and villages, it was everywhere.
Y'all gave us Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. As an American metalhead, I'm forever grateful for Sabbath inventing that dark, heavy riff. And from I've always heard and understood, British intelligence, MI-6, is one of the highest regarded intelligence services in the world. Let's not forget either, that the British SAS heavily influenced and helped form our Delta Force in the late 70's - especially with Hostage Rescue.
Alan Rickman played the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood with Kevin Costner, and he certainly had an British accent, or he did a pretty good job faking it. He does play an awesome villain though.
Lol... their references to him knowing who Allan Rickman was, are Harry Potter and Love Actually. Like any adult male over 40 knows those movie's casts.
As a music fan, you gave us Queen, Elton John, Beatles, the Who…. Just to name a few. Less known Brits in the music business would be the late Paul Buckmaster who was the arranger for people like Elton John, Taylor Swift, Carly Simon. Also the brilliant composer and multi instrumentalist Mike Oldfield.
Inventing Sports is flat out wrong... Most of the sports mentioned were in some form being played all around the world already. the brits institutionalized it not invent
Bring Me The Horizon and Asking Alexandria are two metal bands from the UK, Bring Me The Horizon is from Sheffield, UK and Asking Alexandria is from Yorkshire, UK but they live in America now
I'm an American (ice) hockey fan, and I imagine that Canadians are outraged by the original video crediting the UK for inventing ice hockey. It is generally accepted that the first game played with rules resembling the modern sport was in Montreal in 1875. It is true that some of the sports that influenced the creation of hockey have British or Irish origins: bandy (England), hurling (Ireland), and shinty (Scotland).
@counselthyself That's quite the technicality. The claim that the first modern game of baseball was played in Beachville, Ontario on June 4, 1838, is debated by historians. Major League Baseball does not recognize this game. Apparently, the story originated in 1886 from a man who claimed to have witnessed it 48 years previously, when he was only 7 years old. Even if his detailed recollection was accurate, the rules used for that game were quite different from modern baseball. The Society for American Baseball Research has an interesting article about "The Beachville Game."
@counselthyself So, your "proof" that your story must be true is that another story is not true? That's not how logic works. We have both said that the Abner Doubleday story is a myth, known for decades to be not true. It's not relevant. The SABR article that I read is by Andrew North.
I'm the Mickey guy! Heheh! I'm curious about something else regarding cussing and it's something I'd never really thought about until I got older. Do Brits use "darn" or "dang" for damn? "Shoot" for shit? I'm sure they know what it means, but I only hear it in American movies and it was part of our lingo as kids in the 1970s; but I've never once heard a Brit say it. This makes me think that crikey is Aussie for crap! (Another word I'd never heard until Paul Hogan and the Foster's beer commercials shown in the US in the 80s)
Are you familiar with what happened in Manchester at her concert? She then went on to arrange a benefit concert called One love and became an honorary mancunian. 👍🏻
Love British movies and music and especially dramas. I love the filming locations all over the British Isles. Not sure why I love the British so much. Some of the people are arrogant jerks. ♥
At 8:18 in the bottom corner it says Pompeii-Bastille, so I checked Wikipedia, and it turns out that Pompeii was an American indie rock band and Bastille was one of their big songs. You'welcome.😊
Whether you support the Royal Family or not, there is no doubt that when you think of Royalty especially Americans, we think of The Royal Family of England as the the best! There are other countries that have royal families but nothing compared to the pageantry, history, fame, and names to remember, and spectacular levels of England's Royal Family!
I actually also think of Monaco's Royal Family due to Princess Grace. The American award winning actress, Grace Kelly, who married Prince Rainier III in the 1950's. He was Europe's longest reigning monarch until his death in 2005 when Queen Elizabeth II took the title. Back in the day the Grimaldi's were more sought after. They were more interesting and were frequently in the news, on TV shows, magazines, etc. It wasn't until the mid 1980's when Diana Spencer ((Princess Diana) came on the scene and stole the show that the focus was on the British Royal Family. However, Princess Grace was so stunningly beautiful and classy. Her name fit her perfectly. They had three children that were covered by the U.S. press constantly. They were so much more interesting, fun, vocal and scandalous then the British Royal Family. lol. I still keep up with the Grimaldi's because now there are lots of adult grandkids from those three children who keep the press busy. The current monarch, Prince Albert, is way more scandalous then King Charles III. lol. But, I do agree, the Brits do pageantry the best. I hear King Charles III' coronation will not be as grand as his mother's though. Not sure if it's true but I wouldn't be surprised that it was the request. I watched Queen Elizabeth II's coronation on UA-cam years ago. But to most people that will be watching the upcoming coronation, I'm sure it will be pretty grand and impressive. I'm looking forward to it. :)
@@emmef7970 Yes but Princess Grace was an American former movie actress who died tragically at a young age in a car crash. Most Americans especially think of The Royal Family of England when they thihk of royalty because they see it more often.
I was only speaking of myself and perhaps people of my generation and our knowledge of another royal family besides the Windsor's. I also pointed out that from the 80's forward the focus has been on the British Royal Family. I was not questioning or debating the fact that Americans today are more familiar with or knowledgeable about the British Royal Family than other royalty. I am very aware of when & how Princess Grace died. I remember it very well as I was in my mid 20's at the time. There was massive news coverage of it just like there was when Princess Diana died. The difference was Grace Kelly was ''America's' Princess. Diana was known as the World's Princess. You also made it seem as though Princess Grace was younger than she actually was when she died, she was 53. True, that's young but she was just a few years away from her first grandchild being born. She held the royal title of princess with class & dignity for 26 years before her death. Diana was 36 when she died and held the title for 16 years. Both were very much loved. Before long Diana's memory will be forgotten by everyone but the older generation as well. That's how life works, it's the circle of life.
@@emmef7970 Yep i remember the 1980s as that was the decade of my growing up. The British Royal Family is more in the spotlight on tv and print tabloid newspapers. Most Americans will be able to know the name of Queen Elizabeth II if shown a picture or at least know that was the Queen of England. Very few if any Americans can name or recognize royal families of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Greece, Jordan, Saudi Arabia or Monaco.
Seems like those "ten" is really just three ? Entertainment, history and education ? And I agree, I enjoy British theater. Many of my personal favorite actors are from the U.K. I enjoy British actors in American films. But I don't really like British films so much. "Love actually " I think is one of the worst films ever. Another example by Comparision is a police comedy movie . 2007 "Hot Fuz" is just awful ! Naked Gun in the late 80s and early 90s is far far more comedic. I love classic American TV but I also enjoy U.K. classic tv like "Are you being served" and "Keeping up appearance" are classic British gold !
I'm on board with most of these but I laughed when he said ''National Parks''. Britain may be good by some standards but compared to the U.S? My state alone has just five National Parks less than Britain at 14. lol. Plus, our parks are so much more diverse and spectacular. ''The National Park Service manages 423 protected sites across the U.S., an extensive list that includes national monuments, recreation areas, seashores, parks, preserves and more. Of these sites, 63 are designated as national parks. California is home to nine of them, more than any other state in the U.S. And boasts 28 national park sites in total. Totally agree with music of days gone by but Brits are not as competitive today. Look at a list of new artists from the past 10-20 years and most Americans have never heard of them including most of their famous, rock bands, boy bands and of course Ricky Gervais in Seona Dancing and as David Brent. Now he is a National Treasure! Comedian and musician. Here are a few examples, lol. Seona Dancing - More To Lose (Razzmatazz, 07/06/83) Brent and Johnson - Equality Street [Official Music Video] DAVID BRENT - LADY GYPSY OFFICIAL VIDEO [HD] PARIS NIGHTS by David Brent & Foregone Conclusion
I agree with many of these which have enrichened my life. Music, Humor, Film, and Culture are huge!
A big thank you to the UK for all the brilliant things it gave to the world. ❤️🇬🇧
yes! especially colonization.
Yea you Middel easterners taking over the UK ? You should "♥ GB" 😄

Great at Producing bands

Also brits have some of the beat renaissance musicians and some great baroque musicians too
LMAO You guys put on one helluva good play!
As an American I agree with this list!!!!!!
Alan Rickman isn't British in Die Hard, I think they're East Germans
Cheers from California
I agree 💯 but i was surprised to learn that ice hockey was invented in the UK. Awesome!!

1st thing Brits are bloody good at is making entertaining UA-cam channels
Andy Murray won two Wimbledons. Pretty damn good.
Funny enough the first phantom of the opera was a horror film with lon Chaney in it
And had no singing in it as its a silent film
Inventing Sports is flat out wrong... Most of the sports mentioned were in some form being played all around the world already. the brits institutionalized it not invent
Dua lipa is definitely british/english. Born and raised here. Its her nationality.
As an American I agree with the whole list, except Soccer, I dont know too much. As for UK ROCK, its still alive and well world wide.
Trainspotting, Snatch, and Lock, Stock and Two smoking barrels. Sophie's missing out.
Bring Me The Horizon and Asking Alexandria are two metal bands from the UK, Bring Me The Horizon is from Sheffield, UK and Asking Alexandria is from Yorkshire, UK but they live in America now
I will only push back on one thing they said. In no way is the British version of The Office better than the American version
Facts, Steve Carrell made that show hilarious and is way funnier than the other guy😂
Alexander Cartwright from New York City invited Baseball

Why wasn't Fish & Chips and Curry on the list?
Afternoon tea with a biscuit? No Cream.
Music until the 90's. No-one can touch the British musicians from the 60-90's.
Depends what kind of music you like.
Y’all got Adele to
Comment from me from the USA. Comedy should have been number 2, not number 3. I knew music would have been #1.
Naming ships! I’ll give that one to yall! 😆
