OMG I just got my HOSAS setup and knew nothing about "Joystick 2" selection, and I was literally about to send them back because they were not working and this video just saved me! Thanks so much!
dude your a straight up life saver, for some reason when ever id first start my ship, id always have to click the button that switches whether i back up or go forward becuase it was ALWAYS set to go backwards when i first started my ship.... now i set my throttle to backwar (abs.) and also Forward(abs) instead of both of them as (rel & abs) and it solved my problem!! on top of that i feel as though i can speed up and slow down quicker!!! thank you so much! right before this i figured out how to get my pinkie trigger working on my hotas as well, i finally feel like i have everything keybound right and nothing is weird!! super pumped, whipping around in a razor by myself in the classic race mode has never been so fun hahaha
Absolute Legend!! I am just coming back to Star Citizen after a couple years back and I've had Dual TM 16000's all this time. I remember smashing my head into a wall a couple years ago trying to get this all setup. "Go download these programs and then input all these commands, then stand on your head and sing the alphabet backwards!" man it was a maze.. So glad it's been made "easier" and this guide is LEGEN, wait for it, DARY!!!!!!
Dude, thank you so much for putting this together. You went over the basics that so many other videos skip over. I really appreciate you diving into the control section as well as the inverse and relative and absolute definitions
yea that inverse section is kind hidden, not to mention they literally have a "hotas thrust invert toggle" in general settings which is SUPER confusing, was pulling my hair out thinking that the setting just wasnt working at first XD
i ahve been using these exact sticks for a while and just found the idea of making a paint doc and using it for my keybinds as ingenious. If you dont play for hours every day thats a great tip! I also didnt know there were preloaded setting for the sticks, binding them all separate is still better
I have a barebones Throttle on stick Joystick from 2013 - the old Mad Catz Saitek Cyborg V1 - with similar features to the first joystick you show. None of the profiles work quite right and I'm struggling to map manually. Will try to follow your video
Unfortunately the T16K is pure thrash: after a few months the twist potentiometer will screw up ad start sending false inputs that could make you crash while landing. I have 2, about 6 months old and both developed the problem. Many video on YT report this problem as it is a gross design failure which Guillemot has not fixed in years. I drilled two holes in the sticks that allows me to spray circuit cleaner directly on the potentiometer but it keeps coming back after a few days. Stay away from the T16000.
Master modes change a few settings and honestly I feel that whilst the joysticks I used were great as an entry level. The VKB Gladiators have more access able buttons. You will struggle to use the base buttons on these. Otherwise this is still relevant
having an issue with my VKB NXT Omni-Throttle, just my left handed one. When I try to bind strafe up/down on my left handed Omni it doesn't pick up the reading. It still doesn't pick up the reading after downloading the VKB softwares and calibrating both controllers, in the VKB test settings it SHOWS that it recognizes the Z axis Twist on my left hand but it refuses to map itself in the Star Citizen settings. Any help here?
Thanks, it’s different to everyone. You need to find what feels right for you and set accordingly. I was really just trying to show the basics to give the awareness how to map. No reason to do it this way if another way feels better :)
Great video! I configured it and my joysticks work perfect! The only thing is that I'm having problems for example when going into space on foot, my character won't move at all, i have to reset to defaults everything, then change to joysticks again, you know what could be happening?
I am having an issue, where I can't get the throttle to forwards and backwards to invert. Basically, no matter what I do, the controls are backwards for throttling forward and back. I have selected invert=yes, under the controls tab, flight movement- just like in the video, only it's not inverting and I can't figure out how to get it to input the controls the way I need them. I have tried inputting separately for forwards and backwards but it won't take either. Is anybody else having this problem, and does anybody else have a fix?
@@T_Ralphhh I had to check all Throttle Forward/Backward itens on settings plus typing "pp_resortdevices joystick 1 2" (without the quotes) on the display command in game hitting "~" on the keyboard. Hope it helps.
any advice on adjusting throttle input for HOSAS? I'm personally using VKB gladiator NXT EVOs. The game clearly has dead-stop as the center position on my left stick Y-axis, but I'd much rather dead-stop to be my lowest -Y-axis input to be stop, and reverse set to a keybind, but I don't think this is an option. Any advice here?
Unfortunately that is a little above my pay grade I'm afraid. I know there are some incredible people that might be able to help though. Try here - ua-cam.com/video/GvcS3HyVAyc/v-deo.html
A bit late reply, but: I use a similar setup. I'm lefthanded so most of the primary controls I have reversed, ie Pitch, Roll, Yaw are on my LEFT stick. For throttle I use the RIGHT stick with omnithrottle adapter. I removed the spring and tightened the dampening so it stays where I put it. In SC I use the Throttle Forward on the sticks Y-xis, and there is a strafe forward/backward invert option that I mapped to a button. SC is not very strict when it comes to the difference between strafe and thrust/throttle. So basically slow movement in the forward and backward directions can be called throttle or strafe ;) Therefore, when you press the invert button the Y-axis moves you backwards. So, to sum it up: remove the spring from the Y-axis and tighten the damper to your liking. In SC: map the aforementioned Y-axis to Throttle Forward. Then you have the full range of the Y-axis for forward movement. Map a button on your stick to the strafe forward/backward invert function. Press it to reverse your throttle. Play around (as said in the video) with the abs/rel options to see what works best for you. Do not be afraid to experiment!
If it works for you 100% Different people prefer different settings. This was just how I set it for me and to show the process. You have to find your sweet spot
I just bought Virpils during the Black Friday sale. I ended up going with Forward/Reverse pedals, pitch/yaw right stick, and four way strafe left stick. I thought this would be a little too "untraditional" at first but it works pretty well.
I literally gave up trying. Hopefully I'll get a refund. Absolutely crap, my thrustmaster warthog, rudders nothing works. Like literally turns your head movement slightly. 🤬
Why do people call the t16000 t1600? Like... am I wrong saying it the way I do? Tee sixteen thousand hahaha I hear it on almost every video I watch lol

Very glad to hear and happy to hear they are working :)

Nice, really glad to hear it worked out for you.
hosas changed the entire game for me, thank you mate. doing gods work here i say. good on ya!
Before this video I had no idea what I was doing. Now I'm basically the best pilot in the verse.
Sound more like a douche
One of the best guides for anything I've ever seen. Thank you si much!

Thanks my brother.... I just was born into the verse and I so needed this....
Thank you so much. Great, easy-to-follow logical set up
Awesome video - very clear instructions are so helpful and you really covered everything succinctly!
Thanks for this. Thanks so much for this. I just got my new thrustmasters and this helps me immensely! Now to begin working on that muscle memory!
Subscribing because you just saved me like the 3 hours I just wasted trying to figure this out without looking first 😂

Great tutorial! It answered all my questions :D
Amazing video, thank you. They should put this video in to game tutorial.
Thank you, a real help to me starting out
Fantastic video! Really cleared some things up for me. One question though. You didn't map strafe up/down? I'm not even sure how you lifted off?
I cant map it either, if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Great explanation, many thanks!
Thanks for the video, no matter what i do. my throttle stays inverted. no i need to change every input 1-2-3-4-5

Excellent video. Any reason not to map yaw to z-axis (twist) and roll to left-right movement? I feel that would be more naural for me..

Is anybody else having this problem, and does anybody else have a fix?
Does this guide also work for the virple constellation primes?
Yes but you will have many more buttons to configure and they will feel much better to use. The concept is the same though
Is it possible to set up a HOTAS for Star Citizen?
No matter what I do, the ship goes forward when I pull back on the stick and visa versa.
Did you find a fix?
You need to go into controls, joystick, inversion and set whatever throttle you selected in keybinds
Great video!
I got the T16000m double sticks and even doing all the steps, my thruster continues inverted. Please, help.
Did you find a fix?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have roll on the X axis???
If it works for you 100%

I have virpil duel stick there’s no preset for them

Not even 20 seconds in and you made a blunder. It's not T1600, but T16000
Happens. I think it’s safe to say everyone knew what I meant.
Gratz! You're now a certified shit head!
