  • The RC Bluebird K7 Hydroplane has been completed and successfully run on Coniston Waters. This was an absolutely awesome project to complete.
I'd like to thank everyone who helped to make this happen as it wasn't something that I did alone by any means - So cheers!

I can remember Donald Campbell dying in the Bluebird K7 accident - I was about three and a half, and it's one of the earliest memories I have. It scared me when I was told that they never found him. His helmet, boots and mascot, I believe, were all that was recovered at the time. There are things one sees, and can never unsee. The K7 flipping over and exploding is one of those things, and it never fails to bring me out in goosebumps, partially of the horror of it, but mostly that of memory. Your intro did it yet again. And yet, I find the 'Bluebird' story endlessly fascinating.

Excellent attempts to re-create a piece of Conistons history, your model looks stunning in that true Bluebird colour,I had a model of K7 myself years ago it was a toy but I loved the shape and reading about Donald Campbells determination to succeed James, onto the ext project then.

You should put a small floating something have the bluestar run it over and say little nessy was spotted just before bluestar disintegrated by hitting little essy. That begins a new chapter making you a hero and tourism runs wild.

Can I ask what materials you used? I'm building K7 at the moment but she's just a drawing currently.

You know water is denser than air right?
So why don’t use a water prop?

Are you using an rcelectricparts esc? I have one, and it makes the same startup sound.

  • @JakeBullit123

Why not use a waterproof esc,or coat that with liquid electrical tape?

That would have been a sensible precaution - However, the hull was supposed to keep water out, but it didn't.

your crude model of Bluebird K7 is an insult to the real boat and to Donald Campbell where was the tail fin???
