I had no idea HBO had even been around this long. I was born in '81 so my memory only goes back so far, but I will say, the intro at 4:44 is the one that brings me back to my childhood. Rocky 4 & The Neverending Story. Good times.
I like how the 1999 intro is somewhat similar to the 1982 version but with CGI animation (which does look stunning) but it cannot top one of the most epic logos I have ever seen in my life. The 1980s were truly a great time. And I was born in the late 90s.
wow brings me back ... I remember a short special HBO did quite a while ago about how they did some of these animations. Even more amazing these ancient VHS tapes play so well (mine have not survived the ages so clearly)
I saw the tiniest snippit of the intro at 7:50 and had to look it up. this compilation is great. ty for making it. brings back a lot of memories of being cable bby since I was born in 81
Very, very wonderful! Really takes me back. i like the 1983 feature presentation song the most; woulda helped to have each of the segments with the year it was made for. Still, thanks so so so much
Excellent compilation. I'm old enough to remember all the 1970's bumpers. It's nice to see the evolution through the years. Funny how things like this have such nostalgic value.
*Something about them HBO letters floating in space with the distinct euphoric music. It did something to me as a 5 yr old child in 1983 -1994 at 16 when all variations ended for good. It had the same profound gripping effect on me as Michael Jackson.*
The current one sucks. There's no substance to it. Nothing to get excited about. The old ones with miniature models, visual effects, and orchestral score were the best.
This reminds me of a time when I thought you had to be wealthy to own PPV TV. That intro with the family was the best. It made TV seem like a huge deal.
Sort of has a Rocky theme vibe if you start humming the extended symphony from the mid 80s ERA. Pretty impressive campaign, I still remember it fondly.
5:59 contained only the best aspect of the previous, and following, iterations. And, it had markedly better sound quality. Especially back in the 80s; blasting through the speakers of your tube TV. And, keep in mind that those mirror polished letters were a rare effect back then. Even the movie you were sitting down to watch wouldn't have visual effects that good!
10:31-10:40 I remember this was also used on HBO Asia with a different music (Aired from 2011-2016) For Vietnamese watchers of this video: You would saw Qnet adding the “Mời quý vị và các bạn xem phim” under the English font from 2013?-today (maybe) Those “Mời quý vị và các bạn xem phim” could be also used for Max by HBO also (2017-present)
The only thing better than these intros would be watching them scrambled. I’d love to watch some scrambled HBO :-( lol I search for scrambled HBO and Cinemax but none exist on UA-cam. I think they weren’t recordable with your VCR
7:50 Brings back memories of my early adolescent years, and getting excited after the theme music upon seeing the movie was either rated 'R' or 'NC-17' for 'N' (nudity) and 'SC' (sexual content). Although 'Skinemax' had generally better libidinous arts content, especially those films featuring the two 'Shannons' and queens of the softcore world, Shannon Tweed and Shannon Whirry

THANKS SO MUCH!!! 😄
1982-1997 in space feature presentation was my favorite.
They went all out with it and the music sounded like it belonged in a space movie as the good guys flew away after destroying the aliens
I had no idea HBO had even been around this long. I was born in '81 so my memory only goes back so far, but I will say, the intro at 4:44 is the one that brings me back to my childhood. Rocky 4 & The Neverending Story. Good times.
HBO is my favorite. I didn't see it on TV but I watched the TV openings.
Yesss never ending story was my movie
I like how the 1999 intro is somewhat similar to the 1982 version but with CGI animation (which does look stunning) but it cannot top one of the most epic logos I have ever seen in my life. The 1980s were truly a great time.

A lot of people like that one at 4:44. EPIC!!!
That one at 4:45, it’s so ingrained in my head from childhood. One of my best memories from watching tv.
The second Feature Presentation intro is my favorite. Love that laid back music. So reminds me of watching movies late at night on HBO when I was 12
Facts. Such a simple and fun time.
All these Intro's should be Restored to Digital Blu-ray and 4K Quality.
And used for HBO Max, as optional lead-in intros to streaming titles and movies.
A channel (and streaming service) so powerful, it has its own theme song... and has had it for decades.
it was big before netflix and still big
4:44 - 9:25 So few things have come close to perfection
wow brings me back ... I remember a short special HBO did quite a while ago about how they did some of these animations. Even more amazing these ancient VHS tapes play so well (mine have not survived the ages so clearly)

You knew that a special movie was gonna be on when that 80s style space intro came on.... you were ready to be entertained
Bruh....
Very, very wonderful! Really takes me back. i like the 1983 feature presentation song the most; woulda helped to have each of the segments with the year it was made for. Still, thanks so so so much
Thanks for the video. The 1983 and 1987 ones are my favorites.
I remember watching the short 1999 bumper (10:13) when I was a little kid. Nostalgia!
ikr
Still like to go back and watch this video :-)
All the 80s versions I love those I grew up on those I don't remember the last three but I do remember the early 90s love those two
Excellent compilation. I'm old enough to remember all the 1970's bumpers. It's nice to see the evolution through the years. Funny how things like this have such nostalgic value.
The one at 7:52 is my favorite with the glam guitar and the 80's toms.
4:58 NOSTALGIA INTENSIFIES!!!
So My Dad watched This when he was 7
If this aired at Asia I would be super happy!!!!
I like that one too
The following movie is rated R.
at @4:44 is when subscription numbers went up!!!
Justin Fencsak still the best intro to me.
@@13jrvernon they should bring it back for hbos 50th this year

The first half dozen or so bumpers have graphics that remind me of that old PBS show The Electric Company.
shit got real at 4:44
Shane Jones the best one
That one was 1983. I'll always remember because it was the intro for Poltergeist and it scared be so bad when I was a kid.
The current one sucks. There's no substance to it. Nothing to get excited about. The old ones with miniature models, visual effects, and orchestral score were the best.
Elvis S everything is like that now. It’s like they don’t want to build an expectation or cause excitement. Just generic and bland.
Chiyo the one at the end of the video?
they just came out with a new one that has hints to the old one.. it’s playing on the tvs ;)
Even cinemax had a great intro... now.. it's nothing... I blame millenials
I also wish you could make EVERY Cinemax, Showtime, and Starz Openings as well. I'm more into the Cinemax and HBO intros.
This reminds me of a time when I thought you had to be wealthy to own PPV TV. That intro with the family was the best. It made TV seem like a huge deal.
Great work!
The 1983 and 1998 ones are nostalgic. The 2017 one is pretty good too!
4.44 Epic... 90s noltalgic
7:50 and 9:24 is how I remember the HBO when we got our first cables. Good times... Miss the good ol days....
I got HBO when it had the neon theater intro. It was the 3rd one I believe. Can't believe how long ago that was.
All of these hbo intros are neat.
Sort of has a Rocky theme vibe if you start humming the extended symphony from the mid 80s ERA. Pretty impressive campaign, I still remember it fondly.
10:29 This HBO Logo has always been my favorite logo of all time, and nothings changing it.

4:44 changed the game
7:53 is a personal favorite
I like the one at 9:26.
4:44 = LEGENDARY!!
7:53 - I remember this HBO intro. Very Creative.

Can someone upload a cinemax and show compilation intro?I remember one with a little girl, picking up a puppy from the 80s I think.
and lo, there it is next on the UA-cam playlist
Apparently someone used the feature presentation intro at 10:16 with the music from my channel intro
9:56 is what I grew up with.
Fox Searchlight
What about the ones from 1997-99? (designed by Telezign, the same people that worked on the Encore rebrand 2 yrs. later)
Holy crap! 80 likes!? Thanks so much!
My favorite is the current HBO feature presentation logo.

You've missed one, the HBO Feature Presentation intro from late 1997-2000 but otherwise great video!
