  • As a UA-camr, I've honestly felt a bit left out not having my own review of the Rog Ally up here! Well, here it is, hopefully I can say something not covered before, or at least talk about some of my favourite games which run on it nicely.

I personally use the TomToc steam deck bag and it works perfectly gives you enough room to place other accessories in there as well and enough room for the ally without any issues at all.

I've had my up's and down's withthe ROG Ally and overall after the latest updates I love this handheld. Just love it. It'll get better over time with some of the minor issues but having full windows compatibility is freaking nuts. I sometimes just watch youtube on it and thats when you see the battery life really shine. The CPU is crazy fast when you want it to be and crank it to 25 watts. Plugged in is like playing on a gaming laptop. Love it.

Great in-depth review, David. If you could please create a follow up video maybe in 3 months from now to see how the latest updates Asus will send out and hopefully those updates will iron out most of the software kinks to make it a more stable environment. Thanks!

Really good callout on the anti-dead zone work around. I didn’t know there was a way to mitigate it and it’s great that you feel it’s software related rather than hardware related. Hoping the same can be said about the micro sd issue being software related too.
You listed quite a few games, did you upgrade the internal ssd to house them all? Or running any off the micro sd?

I'm running all my games from an SD card - specifically the SanDisk 1TB Extreme Pro. Fortunately I haven't encountered any issues with it. I have actually ordered a 2TB SSD from AliExpress, since it seems like a _fairly simple_ upgrade.

Awesome video, well done :D ! Here's a question: 4 months later, would you recommend the purchase? How has it been during these past months?

Hey! Cheers :) Absolutely, I still love my Ally. My unit has been quite reliable. I did get a bit of coil whine on some BIOS versions, then the problem disappeared in a later update. I thought I had an issue with one speaker not working as well, then it seemed to go away. Asus are definitely still updating things, at least.
I have paired my unit with the Allymate, and a beefy power bank that supports Turbo at 30W, I am considering making a video about this because it alleviates all of the battery anxiety I was getting while playing Cyberpunk on the move!

Hi David. Just wondering what that rode microphone is called that you are wearing. I really like the quality and would be good for me while using discord while on the ally. Thanks mate.

Hi, it’s the Rode Wireless Go. I think there’s a newer and even better version now, but this old one is still pretty good.

I’m seriously interested in the Ally but annoyed that they put in such a ridiculously low drive. Yes I know it can be easily upgraded but it seems such an unnecessary extra expense and inconvenience!

@davey3765 ye but the whole point is to provide better cooling which in turn would make it run more stable which in turn would make it require less power for the same or more performance

Hah good question! Maybe, if you were really rough with it. I haven’t seen or felt any scratches myself.
