Can you please help me, where do you live, what will I need? I’m traveling with my 31 year old and I want to move soon. I’m retired i want out of the US.
We travel full time so we don’t live in any one area, we typically go to a new country or new region every 2-3 months. In terms of what you need, honestly you don’t need much. Living like this has shown us how lil we actually need to live an enjoyable and fulfilling lifestyle. We travel to each country with just 1 carry on and 1 book bag each and that’s it. And the best part is when you have US income, it goes very very far in other places around the globe (especially Southeast Asia).
Definitely, you’re very right! But we do like to go out and try some of the local restaurants. So we try to find a balance between that and making food at home.

Yall GOT ROBBBBBBEEEEDD ATTHAT MASSAGE PARLOR!!!! A massage in Thailand shouldn’t even cost you over $10 usd and that I would still consider expensive in Thailand for a massage.
We were in the touristy part of town so of course it’s going to be more expensive than other areas. I like a little balance, we had some very inexpensive massages and some “pricier” ones too. I was fine with the price I paid for both massages. $50 wouldn’t even cover a 10 minute massage back in NY for 1 person so if $50 is robbery when we both got 2hrs+ off a quality massage, then I need to get robbed more often lol
@ Eh, if you’re on vacation and you want to spend your money that way I guess. But, as expat here for years I would never pay that much and I’m American making too 10% income. I like to get fair prices for the local market regardless of how much I make and can afford. Even for Phucket they robbed you. It should have been at the very most about 15 for each of you. They definitely taxed you guys. But, at least you enjoyed it.

It’s not as outright rejected as it is in Japan, but it’s definitely not mandatory or expected, there will usually be a service charge added to the bill.
For healthcare it is actually far more affordable, you can do full comprehensive checkups at a hospital in Bangkok (Bumrungrad) for about $300-$600 and you can use travel insurance like safetywing for emergent needs. And those comprehensive checkups literally do everything, you can visit the hospital website to see all the details.

Renting on Facebook marketplace is way more affordable. Don’t use Airbnb for anything over a month stay.
I agree with you fam, we took the easy way out and didn't mind spending a lil more on Airbnb since we were only gonna be there a month.
