You're comparing a c segment EV with 170bhp to a basic version of a b segment supermini with 95hp and a manual gearbox. Compare the MG4 to a DSG golf with at least 150hp.
Have recently moved from a '15 Fabia to a MG4. So that's my answer! The Fabia is a great car. If anything, it's losing it's USP by going too up market. It's very reliable, low cost maintenance, reasonable if a bit boring to drive, comfortable and provided good mpg. Mine was also only £20 a year tax. My first new car, 15 years ago, was a Seat Ibiza and that was similarly great. But the EV is fantastic to drive, more spacious, better fitted out and, in the long run, will provide better economy - even with the price rises in electric. I would say, the Corsa-e is a fairer comparison and the discounts available make it a very competitive price.
As with Alexander Stefanov's comment earlier - you're simply not comparing like-for-like cars with that question...! To match anything even close to the performance of the MG4, with an auto gearbox, you'd have to be looking at the 150PS Monte Carlo DSG - even then, it's 0.5 seconds slower. But, then add on the options of sat nav and adaptive cruise which come as standard on the MG4 and you're talking of the Fabia costing around £25,300...! 😵

It was a quiet night in the small town when a Skoda Fabia with 1 million kilometers on the clock rolled into the gas station. The car was old and worn, but still running surprisingly well. As the driver filled up the tank, he noticed something strange outside. It was a rhinoceros, running down the street, chasing after the car. At first, the driver thought it was a hallucination or a strange dream. But as the rhino got closer, he could see that it was real. The animal was massive, with a thick coat of fur and razor-sharp horns. It was barreling down the street, heading straight for the Fabia. The driver jumped in the car and slammed on the gas, trying to outrun the rhino. But no matter how fast he went, the animal kept pace, getting closer and closer with each passing second. The driver could feel the car shaking under the weight of the rhino's charge. As they raced through the streets, the driver realized that the rhino wasn't chasing him because of anything he had done. The animal was fixated on the car itself, as if it was hunting it down for some unknown reason. The rhino slammed into the side of the car, denting the metal and causing the car to spin out of control. The driver struggled to regain control of the vehicle, but it was no use. The rhino continued to pursue them relentlessly, trampling anything in its path. In a moment of desperation, the driver slammed on the brakes and jumped out of the car. The rhino charged towards him, its horns gleaming in the moonlight. But just as it was about to strike, the car exploded in a shower of metal and flames. The driver watched in horror as the rhino charged into the flaming wreckage, disappearing into the flames. He realized too late that the car was cursed, haunted by some unknown force that had driven the rhino to destroy it. From that day on, the driver never spoke of his encounter with the rhino. He knew that no one would believe him, and he didn't want to tempt fate by telling the tale. But in the quiet of his mind, he could still hear the rhino's thundering hooves, chasing after him in his dreams.
Had one of these as a courtesy car, 1.0 3cyl 78hp awfully slow to the point of being dangerous. Any type of overtake requires massive space and tight bowel control. Basic interior and awful upholstery. I was getting 48mpg so decent on that front and that only..
Currently driving one of these as a courtesy car and let me tell you it isn't worth the £18k, just pay extra or get a cheaper second hand car. Handling and steering are good, economy is good and boot space is good, that's about it. The engine us gutless beyond 30mph and it changes gears in a very 3 cylinder kind of way. Everything on the interior bar the infotainment and the steering wheel feels cheap, scratchy and like you could pull it apart with one hand. When I say everything feels cheap I mean chevvy spark cheap. Looks good from a distance though.
Except the safety gadgets and more space not a lot to prove high price. Same material quality, same engines, five speed gearbox. Way to expensive. As someone said my salary is 5% bigger for the past 3 years and yet the price of the cars are almost 50% higher. And yes, nothing to do with corona virus and chip shortages.
As most new cars are either on personal contract hire or pcp with minimal deposit all people are more focused on the monthly payment rather than the car price. Maybe allowing manufacturers to increase their profit margins.
Not cheap in my opinion, but none of them are these days! The Skoda Fabia seems to me to be the only car in existence in the UK, which has not been too much spoilt in design change since its inception. But like all cars, the addition of ever more expensive computerized electrics and entertainment devices over the years, to my mind remain a big drawback.
I would take this any time then a hybrid electric car that will have zero resale value in a couple of years of use and the astronomic insurance costing and battery failures....
Ive had new cars, I could afford it so what’s the problem ? Second hand cars are fine but not everyone wants a car that some strangers have driven for thousands of miles
But electricity how do you believe it is produced. Do you think electricity appears like magic ? What about the polution to manufacture batteries from rare materials and the way that nature is ruined in order to obtain these materials. Take the whole picture, not only a fraction. 🤦
Nowadays ICE cars hardly harm the planet, they all have filters and exhaust fumes go back in the engine to be used for combustion again. I hardly think a big heavy Tesla is better for the environment than a small ICE car like this with a small engine.

Great review. Great car
I'm in Australia and I was very excited to get this but they've deleted the front cup holders. Skoda Australia - are you nuts!?!
Interior is nice in high end version.
Exterior is blunt.
My brand new Fabia 4 cockpit is crackling.....My old Auris 200000km wasn't crackilng.....
GJ
Pls review the rivals like the Ibiza and i20 too! Actually while u'r at it, the likes of the i10 and picanto etc need to be reviewed as well!
Would be much improved if the engine was a mild hybrid like the Kia/Hyundai equiv. Lazy engineering by VW group.
Can you rank i20 fabia and jazz please ?
1.5 all the way never mind the lawn mower engines
Since when did a 1 litre 3 cylinder engine go in a lawn mower ? Ridiculous comment
@@oddities-whatnot not really iv tractors that would pull a car
Except the safety gadgets and more space not a lot to prove high price. Same material quality, same engines, five speed gearbox. Way to expensive. As someone said my salary is 5% bigger for the past 3 years and yet the price of the cars are almost 50% higher. And yes, nothing to do with corona virus and chip shortages.
As most new cars are either on personal contract hire or pcp with minimal deposit all people are more focused on the monthly payment rather than the car price. Maybe allowing manufacturers to increase their profit margins.
I recently got my Fabia two months ago, and I must say I really love it 💖
Nice car but I'd buy a Jazz
oui c'est la meilleure
Pity they don’t sell Skoda in the U.S. 😟
I like how he says CHEAP at £18000
Really need electric version with some facelift.
Electric. Lol
Is it just me or when i try to spec this car it's not cheap at all, a dacia sandero is way cheaper and looks almost the same in every way
Who would buy the upper trim of a cheap car? Better get a lower trim of a better car.
Great review.
No good for long motorway trips because of high level of road noise.
Jazz doesnt come in manual, only peasant auto.
only PoSs drive SUVs
Sat??
Sitting!!!
Nobody needs an EV
You kinda look like Chris Martin
Who on earth would buy a brand new car nowadays? People who do should probably be sectioned. These people are a danger to themselves.
Who would buy a second hand car with the mileage on them? The price of these are ridiculous!?
Ive had new cars, I could afford it so what’s the problem ? Second hand cars are fine but not everyone wants a car that some strangers have driven for thousands of miles
Looks like Dacia Sandero but more expensive
Do I need an electric car? Yes. Yes I do.
Why..?
I wouldnt have an electric car for free!
What is need? Are you describing WANT? Men like gadgets, that is the only reason you want one, and don't need one.
@@megapangolin1093 well I NEED a car to get to work. So between an EV / Petrol / Diesel. It will be electric every time.
Are you promoting ICE cars?
As if EV's are popular at all. The market for them is absolute garbage. So yes it does make sense to buy gas car (LPG even better)
New??
What's the next video?
Would you rather a £41,000 Tesla Model 3 or a £26,000 Renault Arkana 😂
A loooot more expensive than any electric car il you count the cost in 10 years of gas and revisions.
The Fabia
Rip off for new cars these cars are now what a foucas was its a pure joke look after the car you already have
Nice I want ev only .
Try walking with a wheel barrow first
I actually dislike this car the most out of all skoda cars extremely odd design wise truly odd✌️just saying
,,cheap""
Cheap !
Neither I nor the planet needs more fossil fuel vehicles so I am unsubscribing cheers
Enjoy your walk.
Public transport is great in Britain. Enjoy 😁
Shut the door 🚪 on the way out
its a pretty pathetic car tbh. it’s barebones yet it costs a lot. you’re better off buying a second hand ev with less than 40-50k kms than a new fabia.
What’s the difference between a Skoda driver and a hedgehog? Answer: The pricks are on the outside on a hedgehog
