    It’s a shame that so many great performers that we grew up with in the 60’s and 70’s aren’t well known by most of the younger generations. They don’t know how good tv used to be

    He studied Opera and this gave his voice power and range. His ability to have such a close likeness of her voice is uncanny. Even that raspy quality she sometimes had. Credit to Ed Sullivan if this were actually to be true, but it wouldn't surprise me if part of the reason for Jim's appearance was public emotion. This performance took place the year following the year in which Judy passed away so the audience was primed for this this type of entertainment and Ed was likely savvy enough to realize and capitalize on it. Taking away nothing at all from Jim's incredible talent, but entertainment is business, emphasis on BUSINESS.
    I'd bet there were few dry eyes in the studio audience, as well as the viewing audience at home, once Jim was finished...reflecting both the quality of his talent and the still-fresh public mourning of Judy's passing.

      @@jong0000 ; If you're referring to "progress", as in intellectual and technological advancement, Disney definitely was all that. That's fascism.

      @KajiVocals 3 роки тому +7

      @@bessied.5694 Well, first off, fascism has multiple definitions (and they are not exactly far from each other), but one thing is always the same. It is a far-right movement. Fascism is widely defined as a political movement that embraces far-right nationalism and the violent suppression of just about any opposing party, all under the supervision of an authoritarian state. Fascists are devout opponents of Marxism, liberalism, and democracy, and genuinely think that the state should take priority over personal interests. Those who consider themselves fascists support centralised rule, often by a single political party or leader, and believe in a national rebirth, a new glory for their home nation. Economic self-sufficiency is highly valued, often through state-controlled enterprises. Youth, masculinity, and strength are all strongly glamorised notions.

      This is a genuine tribute to Judy Garland's extraordinary talent. Impersonation of famous performers (etc.), whether by someone of the same sex/gender or otherwise, goes way, way, WAY back, and it's been our loss in the U.S. that there has been such hysterical reaction against this sort of "illusionism." What floors me about Jim Bailey -- whom I never saw in person -- is the restraint with which he duplicates her physical mannerisms (so easy to fall into parody there!) and above all the terrific quality of his actual singing.
