  • They say dogs are "man's best friends," but what should you do when those canine friends don't act so friendly? Dogs can be dangerous, and sometimes dog bites are way fiercer than their barks (ouch!). Here are the worst things to do in a dog attack.

Years ago I went jogging. A person's dog came in the road trying to bite me, I kicked at the dog and one of my kicks landed sending the medium dog flying about 5 ft. The owners were outside and about 3 adult men started running at me trying to fight me.
I don't jog on public roads anymore. I simply got a gym membership. Dogs are dangerous, people are crazy.

yup same. I've walked them for quite a while, and when I find other dogs trying to attack mine, I've found that staring them straight to the eyes and confronting them works much better than trying to dodge them or run from them.
Ironically I've been doing the opposite of all this video says for years. This entire video is basically '' try to not be menacing and maybe the dog will leave you alone ''. I've found that actually showing them you will fight back works way better. At least that's been my personal experience.
Also throwing them stuff works great as well, but you don't always have the luxury of having something to throw at them at hand.

I live in the country and I've had encounters with packs of 8 dogs before trying to attack me. The best thing to do is stand your ground and don't show fear I've scared packs of dogs off like this just by running at them and being aggressive. Showing fear and being docile gets you nowhere sorry. All the tips they have said i wouldnt follow cause all the things they said don't do are all the things that have gotten dogs to second guess. If a dog really wants to attack you it will and the only thing you can do is defend yourself.

I can say being aggressive has always worked for me. I saved a friends life in school when the Gardeners dog tried to bite his leg by kicking him on the face with my bulky boots. If you are obviously taller than a dog, Use that and be aggressive in defending urself. My street has around 6-7 dogs always roaming around and some of them are very big. They usually chase down cars, people on 2 wheelers n sometimes if someone is carrying food, but once you pretend to pick a stone/stick and yell at them, they back off immediately. Ofcourse no situation is exactly alike but dont just stand there like a dumb and get mauled.

This advice is so true. The answer is to bring a fight. Give commands like you would your own dog like "get ouuta there" or "move". Show absolutely zero fear. Stand your ground. I called off a pitbull attack while I was holding my puppy. I had been thrpugh a lot and was ready to fight anyway. My fist was clenched and ready to go. Also of note, if you have a bigger dog and they are already in the process of being attacked let go of leash and HELP your dog. Give them a chance to defend or flea. I say people get killed by defending on the run. Attack and stand ground is the absolute answer if you are a full grown man that knows how to fight. An open hand is easier to crush then one that is balled up fist that acts as a club. If bit, clench fist up and use other hand not to grab but to defend and grab eyes. Once they grab on, trying to pull those jaws off of you is useless with most any big dog breed. Go for the body and fight like a mad man.

A neighbor's rottweiler dog ran at me when I checked the mail. He was about 50-feet away when I decided to run at him and throw my coffee cup at the dog. The dog stopped and ran home. He did not know what to do when I became the aggressor instead of him. Also, I was too far away from my house or truck to take cover and avoid the situation. This was my only option, and thankfully it worked. Also, if a dog chases me when I am riding my bike, I always stop and run at the dog while holding my bike. 100% of the time, 25-30, the dog stops and runs home. Needless to say, I disagree with the advice in this video

Wrap a heavy article of clothing around your arm for them to bite on. If they have a collar, put your hand through the collar, lift the dog's front legs off the ground, turn your wrist 90° and use moderate pressure and the dog should pass out from lack of blood to the head. Remember that a dogs nose is very sensitive a blow to the nose may be a good striking target. If nothing else works find something to throw to see if they'll fetch. I used to work for the post office so dealing with mean dogs became 2nd nature. I've never hurt or abused a dog and those that do will one day pay the price.

I was once out walking my dog at my old house and all of the sudden 2 small bulldogs start chasing me. I realize what is happening and I started running, only to find out they were getting closer. My dog was bigger than both of them, the other dogs being slightly larger than a grown French bulldog, yet my dog was scared of the whole situation too. I eventually stopped, adrenaline rushing, and spun around… here’s the funny part. After I spun around, the dogs slowed greatly down, I guess they were expecting me to keep running. The dogs started towards me again, I made eye contact with both of them, and then actually showed my teeth and started lunging back at them. I began to kind of growl and “bark” at them and started to run at them, which somehow created enough disturbance to send them scurrying away. I then ran into my home.
This story is very real, I’m not trying to act tough or anything, as the other dogs were really not much of a threat. I actually thought the whole situation was pretty funny 😆

That was until the day some bastard got his pit-hybrid loose and it jumped over my fence, grabed my dog and started mauling him, while i was near , splitting wood . The previous fear i felt after i was mauled as a child , turned into rage. Seeing my companion in its jaws, i completely lost it, grabed the axe and swung it will all my might. The entire axe head cleved right trough the spine , ribs and lodged itself into the chest cavity, ending the struggle in an instant. Sadly my savage attack was too late to save my dog from severe injuries, from which he passed away.

I think it's important to note that a majority of dogs who bark and lunge agessively are bluffing. They can easily be scared of by showing them it didn't work (throwing things, shouting, and making yourself big). Running away, acting intimidated, and looking the dog in the eyes can turn these bluffs into a real attack.
Another notable bit of information is that a vast majority of dog attacks are by pets. Thanks to intentional training, or lack of it, some people's dogs have had their fear and agressive tendencies amplified, justified, and/or reinforced. Inbreeding and health conditions can also play a large factor in this though.

    Why I hate dogs:
When I was five, I was on a walk with my ten year old sister.
A dog was in the distance, and we ignored it and kept walking. Big mistake.
The dog was running at us and barking, the dog then pounced in my sister and ripped lots of flesh from her leg, I was only five, and didn't know what to do, my sister was screaming in pain. I did the first thing that came to mind.
I grabbed a big stick off the ground, and started hitting the dog with it, and the dog attacked me.
It pounced on me and tore the flesh off my arm and broke my arm as well.
My sister had gotten up and we both fought the dog, it looked bad for us.
We were losing, gushing blood, and then, a girl who looked 19 feet walked by us.
She was able to save both of us and fended off the dog.
We had to go to the hospital, eventually, we made a full recovery.
The bad part is that, if the girl had arrived a minute late, we might not have made it.
And that is why I hate dogs.

Kicking works fine, but you need to be confident that you're going to connect. And you need to put enough force into it to hurt or damage the dog.
A good low sweep to a dogs side is going to be enough to crack its ribs. Most dogs aren't going to continue attacking you with broken bones.

  • @anthonyjordan631
    @anthonyjordan631 2 роки тому +10

Actually, the key is confidence, I been almost attacked a few times, don't lower your body, slightly raise your shoulders and stand as tall and wide as you can, be prepared to react. Be ready to sacrifice a limb! If dealing with an aggressive dog, they sometimes bite n lock down, you don't want that on your face or head, if you're about to be attacked, be ready to put out your bad arm for the dog to lock onto, rather then him tearing n biting n getting you all over, once he locks you can lift him off the ground with your arm and throw him up n over a fence, get yourself over a fence, or grab a weapon. Another way to make the dog let go if he's bitten n locked down is to pour water or some liquid over his mouth n nose, he'll immediately let go but be ready

Even doing all of the above still doesn't always work. When I was working construction I saw an elderly woman with her puppy going from park garbage cans to garbage cans collecting bottles to recycle for extra money.
Two pits came charging down an alley to attack her and the pup. I ran towards them telling the dogs to go home with assertiveness. At least their attention was off the woman and the pup, but was now focused on me.
It didn't help that the other guys I worked with were too far to call for help. I had to use my hard hat to block the bites, and prayed for God to save me from being mauled. God answered my prayer when my buddy showed up with a back hoe and used that to distract the dogs until I could get in a truck. A cop showed up, and had to use his car to get the dogs away from everyone until animal control arrived. Needless to say the officers car lost its bumpers from the dogs tearing them off.
Calling on the Lord is the only thing that worked.

Funnily enough, this can work without the rock. I used to do lawn care(like fertilization, pesticide application, etc.) so I was constantly going onto people's lawns with dogs who don't know me, often when the owners weren't home/were at work. Often times I would have big dogs start barking at me and sort of charge me, and stead of reacting with fear, or running away, I would sort of kneel down, meet the dog at his level(making me look smaller and less of a threat), and smile and greet him in a friendly, almost playful manner, makimg it look like I'm not only not scared of the dog, but making it look like I'm a friend, or someone to play with.
Granted, essentially all of these dogs most likely had no plans of actually biting/attacking me, and I'm not recommending this at all for a charging/dangerous dog(as it can simply make your head and neck the dog's target of choice), but I found it very interesting how quickly it changed the dogs demeanor/mindset. I've had German Shepards charge me while barking and baring their teeth, ears back,(and worse, with kids in the yard playing with no adult in site, which can be another thing to avoid/watch out for), etc., and as soon as I knelt down and greeted them with a smile, it was almost like they were happy to see me.
Another thing that helps is if you know the dog's name. This can sort of trick it into thinking you know him, or your a family friend, etc. I actually started asking new customers who had big dogs what their names were just in case.
Lastly, having treats can be helpful, but obviously this only in specific scenarios like mine. Obviously you can't go through life walking around with dog treats in your pockets. In fact, it's probably more likely to attract unwanted attention from dogs if anything.

I will have to disagree about the screaming part. Will share my story in short how it worked for me.
That was when i was 16 years old lad riding my motorcycle in the wilderness early in the morning. I was excited and couldn't wait till my siblings wake up so up i got and rode it all the way away from the camp site without telling anybody. I enjoyed the scenery and rode it left and right of a small mountain side. I heard a dog barking shortly after making my last right and in the distance of 30 meters i saw at least seven dogs barking and charging. Ofcourse being young as i was i stopped, got terrified and froze during which time window they were closing in. After a second or two i gathered myself and i kept saying to myself that i got to get out of here. I turned my bike as fast as i humanely could and started it. I rode a few meters until the old thing stopped working. I look behind me and try to start it again nervously, the dogs were not stopping at distance to bark, i gave up on the idea sooner and took a few steps ahead of where my bike was and in that desperate moment my instincts kicked in but i knew there was no way i could outrun 7 dogs. They meant business and were not stopping the charge anytime soon. I ran a few more steps and that was until their barks sounded really close at least 10 feet away behind me. I turn back instinctively and screamed at the top of my lungs like i never did before and kept screaming until i couldn't. To my relief i saw them scattering and slowly retreating, i turn on my bike and rode away. They didn't chase me again and off i went to the camp, half way riding in a van was my father, he said they heard screams and feared it was me so they went out looking for me, i told him everything and was grounded for a month but i was happy that i survived.
So in conclusion at least in my experience screaming absolutely works and you can bet that i will use the same method if it comes to that again.

One time I was walking my dog when they let their dog out as we were passing by. It started stalking us as we were walking away, completely disregarding the owners verbal commands to come back. The owner SLOWLY walks up to her dog (who was very clearly posturing & trying to challenge my dog) taking her sweet ass time & tells me that “it’s ok she’s only a puppy she won’t bite”. Her “puppy” is fully grown, must’ve been at least 70lbs, not listening to her commands, stalking me & my dog, & already starting an eye fight w my dog (who most likely would’ve seriously injured her if it came down to it) lol. Like lady idc if you think your dog is good, what I know for sure is that you have absolutely no control of her & should never be letting her off leash in the first place. I don’t want my dog getting into a fight & getting hurt & I don’t want any other dog getting hurt either bc of irresponsible owners. I don’t have any issues w well balanced dogs w great recall walking off leash. But you need to actually train your dog to earn that privilege. My dog is very well mannered but I still NEVER let him off leash in public bc his recall isn’t the best. So now I never walk my dog without a dog spray & an airhorn. If an aggressive dog bite you and lock it's jaws do not try to rip your hand or leg away from the dog.
The more you pull, the stronger dog's jaw will bite.
If you pull too hard as dog expect you will, you're at risk ripping out tissue, muscles, arteries and tendons.

He required 3 operations to try repair the damage, but his arm is only barely usable now.
      Absolutely horrific injuries.
He shouldn't tried to rip his head of his arm.
The more he shook and trashed his arm, the stronger the dog was holding onto it.
He should've instead push his arm into dog, because that's not what dog expects.
The dog could let it go and try attack again, or just hold onto it until help arrives.
But trying to rip it out is about the worst you can do.
      If there's 3 dogs and they're attacking you, that's a different story.
If you don't get away, they'll rip you apart bit by bit, so in that case your main priority is to get away from them regardless the damage they do to you, since they'll kill you anyway if that's their intention.

Then I kicked them again. When I was little I ran hard. Was lucky to get away. If it’s not more than two dogs and they aren’t huge, you can get away or make them stop attacking you long enough to get away. If it’s one dog , use a guillotine choke. I remember one time I had a job where I had to walk to people's door and put the flyers on the door noobs. It was simple and good exercise. One day as I was walking towards another neighborhood, there was an old white house with three large mix breed dogs standing on the porch a few yards from my right. I though they were tied and since the fence was those old wooden one that anyone could easily jump over or go unders I decided to keep moving forwards. At that moment I could hear small growls and scuffs coming from the three dogs and to my surprise they didn't have any leash holding them back, and began to head towards me. In that instance I knew there was no way I could outrun the three canines, or make any sudden movements. Instead I stood completely still and steady my breath, looking at the ground. as all three began to walk around me and sniffing my legs, hands and rear. After a few minutes, they either lost interest or saw I was no threat and headed back to the house. Not taking any chances I slowly began to walk backwards, turn around and slowly headed towards my car.
There's never been a time that I thank God so much for keeping safe.

I grew up with packs of dogs I had to pass every day & definitely the key is to remain calm. They usually just wanted to defend their territory & most times if I stood still they would pass me & turn towards each other.
One day a big dog jumped at me, I defended my face & it took my wrist in its teeth. I tried pulling back but it started a tug if war. I GOT ANGRY then & when it released slightly I shoved my whole hand down its throat. It tried to back up but I wouldn't let it. I knew it couldn't apply pressure with its jaws wedged open. Not bad for a 10 year old with attitude. That dog never challenged me again. I have been very fortunate to have faced down at least 3 other separate attacks. The fact was, I knew I would be fighting for my life. But you must be brave ENOUGH to do it. Yes you'll get bitten but you won't feel it at the time. if they bite you fall into the bite with your whole body fall on top of them. Gouge the eyes. bee brutal. You must. If they have your arm grab their tail & break it upwards. Protect your neck by pulling your head down into your shoulders prepare to fight. They'll realise your not backing down & should back off.

So i went to pet his dog and it quickly latched right onto my right hand and just instinctively i could tell the dog was gonna yank straight back and down on my hand and then try to shake its head all over. So i got my footing right and formed my hand into a fist the best i could and moved with the dogs head. Had i stood still and gave that dog resistance… it surely wouldve done more damage to my hand. It was kinda like turning your head as you take a punch to reduce the damage. My buddy got the dog off of me pretty quickly and all i got was this 2 inch scar on the top of my hand.

After that we would come by Ms. Doles house and take Bull for walks on weekends, it was great knowing that if while Bull was with us no one could hurt us without getting a chunk of their ass missing. Confronting pack of dogs is almost always tougher challenge. I've noticed that dogs react very well on your voice, many times i didn't panic or run, but started talking with dog and even though it doesn't understand me, it does get impression through my voice about my intention or in other words am i honest or not. Interesting thing is that dogs do like when you give them respect and respect their territory. I once came across the largest pibull I have ever seen in person, or on TV. This dog was jacked to the nines. Head and jaws bigger than my head. I was walking home from my senior highschool, felt something following me, turned around and it was just there. I didn't even hesitate to go up to it and pet it. Letting it sniff my hand first. I showed no fear. For one because I was pretty big myself, and two, I was told never to show fear to a wild, or aggressive animal, including dogs. It instantly submitted the moment I showed it I didn't present a danger. I was able to inspect it and it definitely was on roids. Couldn't wrap my hands around it legs. It was probably a fighting dog. The city I grew up is known for that sadly.

I kept a rather large framing hammer in my stroller. That seemed to curtail an aggressive dog one time.

First line of defense, carry a walking stick and use it to put distance between you and the dog. If it gets too close, swing hard. That usually works to make it back off. Turn to face the dog and advance slowly without making eye contact. If you are walking away or standing sideways, it emboldens them. I was attacked by a pack of feral dogs walking in the city and made the mistake of turning to walk the other direction when I saw them. They started chasing and two bit my legs. I turned and looked ready to kick and they scattered. From that day forward I carry a heavy stick on walks and I always face growling dogs whether I’m retreating or advancing.

Having been attacked multiple times by large dogs I can say this vidro holds truth. It wont however keep me from reacting the same way I always do. Backup. Grab a weapon. Stare the dog down. Then move forward and let the attack begin. I have survuved every attack. At least 1 of the dogs has not. The only dog I treat differently is a rottweiler. They actually lose you if you stop moving. Stay still but facing them. Dont run if you are bluff charged. It will take 10 minutes but eventually they will wander away.

Just make sure you stand your ground, speak sternly to the dog, and look into its eyes. That's worked for me in 2 scary moments with unknown dogs.

I completely disagree with this. I had a several encounters with the dogs running at me. I always stud still turned towards the dog showing him to stop with my stretched out hand and telling him something like: hey! to stop him. And then I just continue speaking with him with a calm voice like: what's the problem. I won't bother you I am leaving. This usually calm them. Every time they either lost interest and turned around or stopped and just continued barking. Then I just slowly walk away. The worst thing is turning your back on him.

It's the owner who let hus dog walk free when he knows that he shouldn't do that because the dog got anger issues.

Two stray dogs charged at me, my dog and another stray. I just screamed at them and one of them ran off while the other one went for the other stray. Luckily no dogs were harmed and their only goal was to keep that other stray away from their territory.

Dogs can turn at any moment, it they feel your a threat and if your invading there space. Even friendly dogs. I know an actually owner who got his face ripped off due to owner just shouting at the for not following orders. Again if a dog feels threatened it will go into defensive mode
