Okay guys in this video I do into detail about how Michael Crichton created Jurassic Park! I talk about the writing process, his research and even go all the way up to when the movie was being made! Everything from the first Jurassic film, The Lost World, JP3 and both Jurassic World movies owe everything to Crichton! Fallen Kingdom mined a LOT of stuff from the novel and I'm sure Jurassic World 3 will do so as well! This is where it all began! From kids love of dinosaurs to paleontology all of it can be traced back to the author and his relationship with Steven Spielberg! Hope all you JP fans enjoy! :D - Розваги
Imagine if Micheal Crichton was able to get a cameo in each Jurassic PARK movie, like the Stan Lee of Jurassic Park
that would be epic
Yes
true though he did male ONE cameo.
@@taliesincoleman6569 he did? Did i miss something?
@@Benny_T yes you know the feller with his dog in the san rose scene?
THAT'S CRICHTON!
I once wrote to Michael Crichton by sending him a letter through the publishing company of Jurassic Park. He sent a signed postcard in return saying, "Thanks for writing! Best wishes" and signed it at the bottom. I use it as a bookmark whenever I re-read Jurassic Park or The Lost World.
Goated Flex
That’s awesome
RIP MICHAEL CRICHTON 2008
ScooBy Snak ten years. God when you see it-
He is certainly missed by many :(
He didn't even get to see Jurassic World...
@@1wayroad935 thank god
@@1wayroad935 If only we could all be so lucky.
Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park legacy lives on.
Without Jurassic Park, my life has no meaning.
We all owe it to Micheal for giving us this amazing franchise and novels
Crichton's legacy will forever live on in our memories. It's amazing to think that the idea of someone to clone a pterasaur would lead to 2 amazing books,5 and future 6 beloved and disliked films, countless toy's (except the downfall that were the JW toy's), a large amount of comics, multiple video game adaptations including the beloved JPOG witch to this day has an active community thanks to mods (looking at you JWE) and fanfics some great others not so much ( It's not raptor DNA and Why so Blue are the best one's in my opinion) and most important of all the millions of fans all over the world. As for how the movie franchise will continue, well that is for his family to figure out.
Lord Voldemort Jurassic Park Operation Genesis.
Camp cretaceous!! What an amazing way to introduce these stories to kids.
His legacy wil live forever as long as the books stay in good condition for people to read and all the jurassic movies are great if you like dinos. The dinos are the heroes not the people
I love how the way John Hammond written represent the story he's in, or vice-versa.
In the book, he was described as "Dark Side of the Walt Disney" (he care more about the profit than the safety of everyone else), which is reflected by the more violent nature of the book compared to the movie, as well as his ironic death, as it was written for adult.
In the movie that's full with sense of awe and wonder, which incorporated more of the original idea, John is such an affably, jovial old man, that want his dinosaurs to be seen by everyone (a Light Side of the Walt Disney, if you will), which resonated with this Walt's quote:
"I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether we be six or sixty."
I’m really happy to see that Crichton got a big role with the movie, I feel bad for him, his original dream wasn’t done with the book, but with the movie it was, that’s just a really nice thiing to know😀
This series. A timeless fire for imagination that will last as long as we live.
I knew all of this except the amount of times Crichton re-wrote the book. Didn't realise how much he wanted to make the child perspective work. Though it didn't help that critics didn't know why they didn't like it
Jurassic Park got rejected multiple times, but crap like Twilight gets published. I don't even want to try and understand that.
Someone actually thought that Claire's personality was changed between JW and Fallen Kingdom, because although Claire might have had a little bit of sympathy for the dinosaurs, she was nowhere near the animal rights activist that she was from the get-go in FK.
I believe the critics wanted Jurassic Park to be a story for an adult . So I think that’s a better story . But after the book was published and became a success kids stated reading it and Crichton asked is it any good and they sat yeah It’s good .
3:44 Holy crap where was this photo taken?? That looks EXACTLY like the Tyrannosaur exhibition at the Te Papa museum that I visited a few years back!
Im sad he passed away
SPOILER ALERT: Everyone dies. When you write a story, you die the least.
I remember my mom made me read the book and take the test after reading it lol love JP
You are chocolate man!!!!!
Your mother is a cool person!
I read Jurassic Park and lost world 4 years ago after I came home for the summer 2015 and I loved them . I’m gonna read them again next year for the new Netflix series . And 2021 for Jurassic world 3 .
@@gabethedinosaur95 Awesome novels! I wish Lost World was more like the book. What's the Netflix series?
Anyone else wish they could read the first drafts that were rejected?
Yeah I wish it was saved and published.
Where it all began in his mind
What made the book awesome was that the science behind it wasn’t outlandish. It felt possible. And the discussions of palaeontology, genetics, mathematics, paleo botany, park management. There was A LOT of genuine science behind the strike. And I think the best kinds of books are the ones that feel genuinely real.
RIP Michael Chrichton. Gone, but most certainly, never forgotten
So basically the movie version we ended up getting was a mix between the final story Crichton ended up publishing and the earlier, family friendly version he had originally envisioned.
Michael’s legacy through Jurassic Park and Westworld seals his place in literary and scientific history.
Michael Crichton is awesome!!!
He’s absolutely one of the best authors of all science and evolution . His books will live on forever.
This channel got me to read/ listen to the audiobook of Jurassic Park. Klayton damn you! Now my audiobook library has 9 Crichton books. I'm a Crichton stan to say the very least and have gotten through 14 of his books. I'll say it again, damn you Klayton!
😂
Lol I just did this as well. Both novels! Even though I remember not being a fan of lost world the first time, it was okay the second time around, probably because of the guy reading the audiobook had a nice voice
I have 15 Crichton books all I need is 17 . But hopefully I read the 18th book by Crichton soon
Klayton, I found your channel several months ago and I have to say, it's pretty crazy how you've been able to so frequently publish new videos on JP. You've been doing it for a long time now, too. I've always felt like, "Well, he'll get bored soon or run out of stuff to say," but nope, you keep on going. It's impressive. Good job, bro.
R.I.P Michael Crichton you made my childhood awesome. also man i want to read his first version of Jurassic Park now.
Thank u Michael Crichton for a franchise that i love so much rip
Beautiful...thx micheal for bringing my imagination to life..
Jenny Bautista ohh Crichton is my favorite author he changed my life
Honestly, Michael Crichton has become one of my personal heroes. I I find it reassuring that he could take his knowledge of one area (science) and translated into another. (narrative storytelling.)
They should make a isla sorna documentary like the show life or planet earth it would be interesting
That would totally be epic! A Jurassic Park Netflix Documentary series, each season on a different island!
Like a walking with series?
You keep delivering these gems, great job
Wow can you imagine if the book never got released the movies would have never existed and I myself would think of dinosaurs as nothing more than just long forgotten animals even as a kid but I'm happy that his book is now a huge success for all people even on film so far I'm liking no not liking I'm loving dinosaurs for what they are and what they were and wonder if he was alive today how happy would he be to see his most famous book become a huge success for everyone around the world.
Same with Charlie and the chocolate factory and roger rabbit
This was one of the best videos he's ever made. Well done. Hope he does deeper into this topic.
My introduction to Dr. Crichton's work was "The Andromeda Strain". Definitely a page-turner. I stayed up all night to read it, mostly because I was too scared to fall asleep.
The man did his research when writing.
He's one of my inspirations for writing stories. RIP Michael Chricton 🦕🦖🦕🦖
Crichton was also inspired by the 1984 novel Carnosaur.
This is a great vid worth the wait
Every person who has read the Jurassic park book that I’ve spoken too loves Michael Crichtons Jurassic park and his other amazing novels. Someone I know even got to read the lost world early since they got the books in storage in the library she worked at!
Ive been a HUGE Crichton fan since my 8th grade teacher told our class about the book, and how that summer it was going to be a movie. I remembered their was a copy of the book shelves downstairs at home. I started reading it that night, all day during school (We had standardized testing so after I finished a test I read between them.) I literally read the book in 2 days. Ive been a fan of Jurassic Park and Crichton's work ever since.
That said, he obviously took his Westworld theme park idea and translated it over. I honestly didnt know until last year as I TORE through all his books first, but avoided his early movie directing career. Last year I decided to go through his IMDB database of the movies he had directed or written, and Westworld was his first movie he wrote and directed.
When I watched it Jurassic Park made complete sense as a better itineration of the original theme park idea.
Thank you for everything Dr. Crichton. RIP.
This is absolutely incredible. Thank you for honoring him!
The joy and suspense that Michael Crichton brought to book readers and audiences alike; Was to bring out the inner kid in all of us with the revival of dinosaurs to reality :)
Im still praying that we get a survival horror JP game and still wishing for more JP/JW Funko pops :)
Think West World meets Dinosaurs
@TheJurassicCollector
Exactly
This just proves it: having the right POV for your story cannot be appreciated enough; it changes EVERYTHING.
Thank you for this video. A lot of it I didn't know yet.
8:34 Can we appreciate the fact that Crichton predicted Minecraft?
Omg you’re r right
Thank you so much for telling me about the book through your videos. I first came aware of the novel when you made the video about Nedry's death in the book and I haven't abandoned the books ever since. I grew up with the film's. But I couldn't thank Crichton enough. Rest in peace you brilliant man.
I agree because if it wasn't for Michael Crichton and his Jurassic Park books, all of those Jurassic Park movie franchises, games, parodies, merchandise and et cetera would never have excised and I myself would've never had an obsession and fascination with dinosaurs to begin with.
R.I.P. Michael Crichton (October 23, 1942 - November 4, 2008), considered as the father of "modern techno-thriller" along with Tom Clancy.
This movie has become a living fossil
This was an absolutely great post. Well done.
Amazing video Klayton and I think Crichton would be more then proud of this tribute.
It would be great if somehow the original draft of Jurassic Park that Crichton wanted published could actually be put on shelves in bookstores. Perhaps as a limited edition.
I’m glad he rewrote the story for the dinosaur-loving kid still in all our hearts ❤️
See did y’all ever know this!?
The book is better then the movie.
That’s kind of true.
Books tend to be better than there film adaptations cough cough Twilight cough cough.
@@fang609 well not always. For exempel Jaws
I love both.
To be honest, the two are probably too different to be compared like that. At this point they're more like two seperate canons.
it always is
Without Michael Crichton, no big franchise such as the Jurassic Park wouldn’t come into fruition. :).
Thank you, Michael Crichton.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!! I've always wondered on how Michael Crichton came up with the idea for his book! i found it very interesting
The stuff with children and dinosaurs, netflix has done it with the Camp Cretaceous series and it executed very well! I know it's different when you have a horror science fiction novel and a "kids" show, but all I said is that the first idea of Michael Crichton about his book concept became real almost 30 years later with this series. He would be very proud if he sees it!
Kudos man. This turned out to be better than I thought!
I love hearing this kind of backstory, I never knew some of this. I’m 32 and grew up LOVING JP, I can’t even count how many times I’ve read the the book!
I was like 7 or 8 and My mother took me out of class early to catch the matinee at our local theater. It scared the hell out of us haha. I gripped my theater chair throughout the whole movie.
Klayton your videos are fantastic and I truly believe you are the best UA-camr in terms of content, presentation, and credibility. Keep killing it man, your videos are very much appreciated and wanted
Wow! Thank you for that! I really appreciate it! :D
Klayton*
*Well done sir.* Had no idea of the background. Thank You. This is my favorite MC quote:
*State Of Fear* -- 2004 -- "The current near-hysterical preoccupation with safety is at best a waste of resources and a crimp on the human spirit, and at worst an *invitation to totalitarianism* ..."
John *Michael Crichton* MD 1942-2008
PS: When famous and influential folks get too close to the truth...
Awesome video bro. 👍🏻
I dont know who id be without the movie, it influenced my entire life, I saw it on release at the age of 3 and stuck with me this whole time. the book was the amazing expansion on the concepts of what created the franchise of my childhood, and the even more ironic part i grew up on "creighton street" (i know the spelling is different.) but its really weird, thanks for your channel klayton youve pieced together a lot of parts of the franchise that were lost for me!
show of hands, anyone want Klayton to voice an audiobook of the novels?
Loved this story and loved this Video!
Your videos keep getting better and better. I've been a long time fan, but first time commenter. How do you think of all these topics?
Oh thanks man! I could've sworn I saw a comment by you before haha but thanks for the kind words! And I don't really know to be honest I just kind of do what feels right. Balancing what everyone what's to see as far as Lost World fans, JP3 fans and Novel fans etc. goes is a little difficult but most of the time I just make what comes to mind :)
What a legend, I wish I could have met him.
Epic video
Great vid
Awesome 😎
Its nice to see the original legacy of using the kid as a focal point in Camp Cretaceous. It definitely works to introduce it more to a kid perspective.
It's good that his original idea of being from a child's perspective was finally used in the movie.
I love you're vidéo , Great work (sorry for my bad english )
Hey look, a video about my favorite book and movie, with some pretty interesting information, released on my eighteenth birthday. Awesome.
I hope my work is as remembered as Michael Crichton‘s work.
When I saw Westworld, the movie from 1973, I began to realize that's where the book came from!! 😂😂😂 Thank you, Crichton!! RIP. 1942-2008.
Jurassic Park, the movie, is the outcome of one of the greatest collaborations of all time.
Yet another man whom I draw inspiration from. Mr. Crichton, I can't put into words just hoe much I appreciate you for what you've done. If it weren't for the heart and soul you possessed, your first book would've never been made. And if that hadn't happened, the movies and stuff wouldn't have come. And if THAT hadn't happened, people wouldn't be looking at life the same way they do now. Including me. Even if its just dinosaurs, one small change is a big one. Much love to you, man. Look forward to meeting you in the new life. :)
Very interesting video
Michael Crichton has always been a hero of mine
I read Jurassic Park a few months after seeing the movie back in '93 or '94. At that point, I only read books when i had to for school. Must've ended up rereading it twenty or thirty times over the years and finally started to enjoy books for recreation.
The book is absolutely incredible. Always been my favorite. The movie is a classic ... I have to say that the book has even more to it and it is incredible .... the swimming T Rex... so cool
My favourite video so far.
Learning that kids were originally supposed to be the main characters of Jurassic Park made me wonder if that scrapped draft of Chrichton's led to the creation Camp Cretaceous itself.
Loved his book(s) got me back into reading again
Amazing!!
wow this really brought me a lot of insight into how the book was made.
Cool information klayton
Mind. Blown.
Background music: Operation Genesis. Lol 😁❤
Every one of his novels is so well researched.
The Crichtonsaurus was a nice tribute to the Writer, it even got included in the Jurassic World Evolution
Man Mike and Steven are a lot like John and Jasmines when you think about it
My favorite book of all time. Lost count on the amount of times I've read the first one. Pure genius.
I’m glad that the book was written like it was it’s a more philosophical book that could even be imagined it’s incredible
I cry everytime.
James Cameron was also going to direct this movie, but lost the rights to Spielberg. However, when he saw the final cut in 1993, he said in an interview, " my God! That was a good movie! I don't know what I was thinking!" He wanted Jurassic Park to be a survival horror film! 😂😂😂
tbf wouldn't mind seeing a film like that, obviously not to replace JP but the concept of a survival horror movie actually sounds something decent, I'm just imagining a mix between alien isolation and Dino crisis 1 and 2 but in a movie format. Would be something I would go and see tbh
Honestly, survival horror might have been a bit tighter to the tone of the books
I’m listening to the audio book rn on UA-cam. Can’t wait to finish then watch the movie
You have a very warm voice
that's what used to suck about back then if a critic or somebody said it wasn't good that was the end of it... basically it wouldn't be good enough nobody wanted nothing to do with it...now you can overcome that a little easier verse back then it was a death sentence
Micheal Crichton is a Jurassic god
