@@formxr I love every single thing about that song. The intro, the forlorn guitar sounds, the lyrics, the chorus. It is just such a sad and beautiful song. “With the birds I share this lonely view” is just a beautiful line. Love it. And you’re right, it comes in strong (yet somehow soft at the same time).
6:53 - "That was a tough one right there. That was a tough one to endure and try to explain." Yes. There's some facts to the song and the people responsible for making it, but the facts aren't the feeling or the journey. I really respect how you handled your reaction on this one. It's a tough song with a lot of deeply personal meaning for the band, as well as some more in your face stuff. Hanging back like you did gave room for everyone to let the song mean what it did to them.
Yeah!! Another Rhcp song❤️❤️..video is based off a foreign film that Flea (bassist) saw I believe in Germany and he wanted to re-create it for a music video
As I have said before on many a video, Red Hot Chili Peppers are great musically, but ultimately, it is all about that bass. Flea's skill and style, and the mix, pretty much make the album, and every album.
RHCP can do no wrong, I love all of their songs. Parallel Universe, Mexico, Gong Li, Monarchy of Roses, Rain Dance Maggie, Dark Necessities, Airplane....the list goes on forever. All of them good.
A single from the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s 1999 album Californication, the “other side” here is a metaphor for both the struggle to get back to a normal life after addiction and also death itself. This song is some form of a tribute to former guitarist Hillel Slovak, who died of a heroin overdose himself. Some believe that it is an attempt to communicate with Slovak, or even written from his perspective. Slovak, lead singer Anthony Kiedis, and Slovak’s replacement John Frusciante all suffered from heroin addiction, so this song could be from the point of view of any of them. The lyrics are somewhat cryptic, and hold multiple meanings as you would come to expect from Kiedis. The music video offers a little insight (although it can be just as confusing), as it seems to depict the story of a man in a hospital trying to fight off monsters before eventually passing at the end. The video gives a very nightmarish vibe, and is most likely using the monsters as symbols of addiction. Kiedis himself described his addiction as “a big grey monster”, which is actually one of the monsters the man faces in the video.
The "Other Side" is commonly used substitute for B-Side or Flipside" in music & is Sci-Fi/Religion/Mysticism to represent Life after death ie... Heaven, Paradise, Nirvana ect... Oh my god... the song & the video are one iconic experience. And still one of the funkiest songs ever. Another one I love ferociously from that era is Eddy Grant "Electric Avenue"!!
As to imagery, it looks like the guy on the lines is playing a guitar or bass, in this case I think it is Flea, so a bass. It looks like the guitarist is playing some kind of line or rope (a different or opposite representation of a bass and guitar than many other bands would do [bass has many lines, but guitar has one]) and the drummer is playing a clock. The main character (not the singer) is dealing with a lot of things happening to him, whether those things are self-inflicted, outside induced or imagined, the person usually sees it as happening to them, not because of them. He gets thrown down, gets back up, pushed back down, rises above again and then everything seems to be conspiring to take him down again. I may be wrong, but the character seems to be playing out an external version of an internal process. Anthony is singing in a stark world and his voice is front and center in the mix, almost laying on top of the instrumentals rather than blending into it. This places emphasis on the lyrics and the delivery of them. It is very melancholy, direct and a bit lifeless (intentionally I think, not a criticism at least). I think it is another way to show/explain the feelings they grapple with while internally fighting against the addiction (themselves). Sometimes winning and sometimes losing, but in the end trying to get to the right side, wherever that may be at that moment.
This song is really smooth to the ears... I had never heard it before! Thank YoU Mr Video, for introducing me to a "new to me" RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS Song!

I was recommending classics to do like “ newcleus “ the other day...and I realized you have yet to do the greatest, the king of kings of songs
“””””ROCKIT”””””by””””””HERBIE “”HANCKOCK””””””””””””
Oh my god... the song & the video are one iconic experience. And still one of the funkiest songs ever. Another one I love ferociously from that era is Eddy Grant "Electric Avenue"!!
Oh. Herbie! 👍
Its giving in to your addictions even if you die.
Thanks for all your work, if you get a chance to check it out Give It Away by the Chili Peppers. You'll love it!
Some things you have to take to the Other Side. We all have that secret take it to the Other side
