What about Britney Spears' "Outragerous" (feat. Snoop Dogg), it was supposed to be the theme song to 'Catwoman' but they had to cancel it because Britney hurt her knee during filming and had to have surgery forcing her to cancel the unfinished video and the rest of her tour. A 45-second clip of the video has been released tho.

Great to see you cover the "Hate Me Now" video featured on this Lost Media video, I remember as a kid there being a ton of controversy over that original version of the video being premiered on TRL, and hearing about Diddy beating up Nas' manager after that premiere. Great to see that that version finally resurfaced.

    • @MrDunloMusic
      @MrDunloMusic 6 місяців тому +1

I remember the whole thing vividly too. If it was a true mistake to air it, it was a accidentally a really good promotional tactic for the song/video.
Also, Puffy got to publicly make his stance that he was against the crucifixion scene. But if they had just released the edited video without making that stance, it might’ve just looked like Nas was comparing himself to Jesus while Puffy was just a sidekick…. and Puffy was in the stage where he was actively fighting against the image that he was simply a sidekick to Biggie who was trying to be a solo star riding on those coattails.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the whole thing was calculated from the start, but if it was a true accident it worked out as well as possible for all parties involved.

One I do not see much conversation about is the original version of the "Alarm Call" music video by Björk. This video was apparently shot by Paul White and featured a scene of Björk wearing the kimono featured on the cover for Homogenic. It was not released because Björk was not satisfied with the result. It was re-shot by Alexander McQueen and that one would later be released. Nobody has really talked about the original, and even Björk herself has not mentioned it.

Big names like David Bowie, Mariah Carey, Beyonce and Lady Gaga were featured here and for a good reason. They have been widely known to have numerous unreleased pop songs as well. Lady Gaga's case was particularly saddening because Do What U Want was her most streamed song on Spotify and one of her most acclaimed songs from ARTPOP, her most critically divisive musical era, until she had to replace the original version with her duet with Christina Aguilera amidst criticism of her collaboration with R Kelly. That song was also Interscope's choice of release, not Gaga's, considering her creative difference with her label that time as she was supposed to release Burqa (but the title was edited to Aura because of condemnation by hardline Islamic conservatives when the demo was leaked online).
I'm surprised you didn't mention Kylie Minogue's lost original version of On A Night Like This since it's also a frequently talked-about piece of lost media. The original music video allegedly showed her naked but she personally opted to reshoot the whole music video for image reasons, and this was on the eve of her worldwide acclaim for her Fever album and Can't Get You Out Of My Head.

The coolest lost music video search is for 'Leave It' by Yes. In 1983 they made 18 versions of the same video. After the 80s, 17 of those versions became lost and as of 2023 only 6 are available to watch. Another oddity is the 'You're So Vain' video contest for the Carly Simon's 1973 hit. In 2010 she made a bizarre green screen performance (that is lost) and made a contest for fans to assemble a video for the song using this footage. The videos are the most embarrassing things you can imagine for a major artist. Some videos are on her official channel other scattered around UA-cam facing danger of being lost. There's also uncensored or undoctored versions of music videos lost.

17:29 The idea of making "do what you want" a collaboration with R Kelly was by the label, Lady gaga originally planned for the ArtPop single to be Aura (originally called Burca) being the follow up to "Telephone" which never happened.
That's why she released the duet with Christina Aguilera to vindicate the song since it was one of the most listened songs of the album.
The short film "G.U.Y" was made by Gaga herself because the label saw ArtPop as a failure, that's why the video starts with "House of Gaga Presents".

That has got to be some of the most on the economic bubble, overly colorful and vibrant 1980's anime aesthetic done by a major studio, and we'll never see anything but some still frames unless someone stumbles upon some old video tape. Not a lost music video, but a lost music documentary: DEVO had a film crew make a full "authorized" documentary of the band. There was a Kickstarter to help finish the film, they reached their goal, supposedly the film was completed in the early 2010s, then after a few years all communication from the Kickstarter went silent.
Jerry Casale explained later that Mark Mothersbaugh had full control of the final cut and seemed unwilling to release any version he'd been given. No real word has been given on why, Mark has never mentioned the film at all in public.
Over a decade later in 2023, there is reportedly another DEVO documentary in the works, by a different director, and it is again being reported ad the "first fully authorized" documentary about DEVO.
Problem is, this time they don't have Alan Myers or Bob Casale to interview as they passed away after the first documentary was filmed.

One music video that might or might not fully exist that I’ve always remembered is I THINK by Tyler the Creator. The description for the music video says “a fraction of the video*” meaning the other like 1.5 minutes are intentionally not released. This might not count as lost media because it was never available in full but it still does exist somewhere

Daryl Hall and John Oates did an alternate video for, "Say It Isn't So" in which Daryl catches John with a woman who is supposed to be with Daryl. The scene of Daryl dancing in a dark-colored jacket by himself was used in the later, more widely-seen video of the song. They also have a primitive video for, "She's Gone". There was a different Tina Turner video, shot in black and white, for, "What's Love Got To Do With It". I would love it if you could find those 3.

There is an alternative version of 'Do they know its Christmas' Band Aid 1984. Which features alternative shots of the singers and is longer than the usual version that's normally played on music channels. I don't know if it's considered 'lost' per say, but I can only recall seeing it once or twice (a part that stood out to me, was a section where Boy George is seen holding a pint of beer) and I cannot find it anywhere on UA-cam. But it definitely exists as the first time I saw it was a few years back on what was VH1 at Christmas time and my wife fully remembers seeing it as we both noted how this version was so different.

Yeah I remember that. They would play that late at night around the holidays and on Christmas. Really cool add on. Its like the heavy metal version Dio put together called Hear 'n' Aid. There was the regular version they played a bit. Then there was another version that had about 8-10 guitar solos from a batch of guitarists who helped and sang too. So you hear the song and there's a solo and it get to the end of the run and then into another solo and it gets to the end and on and on it got funny after awhile the song was like in a perpetual loop and cranking out more guitar solos. Oh the 80's, sigh.

A bit more underground but the full official version to "Wake Up" by Brand Nubian with the scenes depicting the devil in whiteface is impossible to find on the internet. The group's episode of "Unsung" did show some of the clips of the uncut video with graphic text overlays of the lyrics on top of them, but that's the only footage I could find. Also, there may or may not be a music video for the Ant Banks song "The Drunken Fool"; the promotional 12" single has a "Video Version" with clean lyrics and features MC Breed, but no info exists about if there even was a video filmed for the single.

Yooooooooo. I have an idea for a video! You should cover things that were permanently lost during 9/11. I know a lot of artworks was destroyed in the towers, but I wonder else could have been lost. In addition, I've heard there has been implication of people in the trapped floors having access to a camcorder and recording what was going on inside (this idea was based on flashes of lights that were seen in the floors trapped above. I do wonder if there's any further proof on this).
Edit: I've also heard that a camcorder (possibly more than one) were recovered from the site, but they were completely destroyed, so no chance to see what were the contents.

To me , the most interesting lost music video is Holly Knight's Hanging On A Heart Attack. It is a song that was never released , has barely any information about this version and its full music video has not seen the light of day. The only knowledge of its existence is a snippet of a HIGH RES HDVS Recording which can be found by searching "Analog HDTV: Tony Bennett - Where Did The Magic Go & Holly Knight - Hanging On A Heart Attack"
I Quote Reely Interesting who uploaded the video and he says: "Fun fact: Holly Knight's version of Hanging On A Heart Attack appear to have never been released. No recordings of the track appear to exist on the internet and this appears to be the only footage of the music video. It may have been a removed cut from her self-titled album released in 1988 or a track from an unreleased album."
So if someone would be able to find the original full master recording tapes of either the audio or music video , it would be an amazing find since neither song or music video appears to exist based on records

There has always been controversy about if there is a "Chapter 3" to Hazard by Richard Marx. There were two released chapters, and the ending is left ambiguous. Richard Marx says it doesn't exist, but back in 2004 when he was on Ryan Seacrest's talk show "On Air", they showed a clip of the Hazard video that showed previously unseen footage of performance of the song. Funnily enough, that clip used to be on UA-cam but is now removed, making it lost media. I may have a copy on VHS somewhere... I'd have to pull out the VCR and get my tapes out of storage. But it's an interesting topic.
