Thats one of the reasons i enjoy this channel, you genuinely enjoy the hobby aspect of everything you post when it could easily just be "attractive woman enjoying what i like" as a nerd thirst trap. You look like you're genuinely having a good time with it all.
My girl doesn’t share my hobbies, But she will ask me about them, Even though I know, they don’t really interest her, She will ask me “ Tell me about your D&D game” Or “ What’s that model you’re painting?” We don’t share the hobby’s, But she at least will engage with me and them. Which is amazing. I usually don’t bring up my hobbies because most people don’t like talking about them, I’ve been asked in public, “ Hey, What did you do last weekend?” And I get to say, “ I went to a Warham tournament and I had a really good time, And I took fourth place” And I usually get the response “ Good for you that’s interesting” And then they take a hard right out of that conversation, Because they don’t actually care and want to change the subject. So somebody just asked me about my hobbies and minor interest simply because I show interest is overwhelming
That's awesome. My friends lady has surprised him with inviting me and a couple of guys over for cards and food a couple of times. She doesn't play. Doesn't understand it at all, but she knows it makes him happy and she loves him. It's very awesome to see things like that.
Thats a keeper, usually. GG. ;) It is fine to share hobbies and nerd things, but if not, then showing/beeing shown respect for the difference is rare (imho) and lovely.
Literally part of why I was so happy when my girlfriend proposed. We're both huge Battletech, Warhammer, and ttrpg nerds-so I'm gonna have a game partner for life!❤
My partner and I have different hobbies, I'm nerdy and like games, he's more mechanical minded tractors, cars and such but we have some in common like movies, tv and music and still support and indulge each others' hobbies and passions.
I have that kind of relationship and for many years I felt lonely and sad until my daughter was born and is a mini version of me and she became my game and hobby companion and she is super smart and for a seven year old she’s a worthy opponent and now I’m the happiest and proudest dad in the world 😊
My wife doesn’t understand or get my hobbies, and uses subtle ways to discourage me from enjoying them. She likes to use it like a weapon, and point out that I would rather be alone than doing something else that she wants. I just suffer through it in silence sadly.

Uncool dude. Toxic. No one needs that kind of relationship honestly. That's not hyperbole. Why would you remain in a relationship with someone who even if they do not share your hobby/interests, supports and enjoys the happiness they bring you? Again, honestly you should re-evaluate why you are putting yourself (and them) through this. Time to part ways and seek happiness with someone who either shares your interests (not a guarantee in itself for happiness, I know that personally) or supports the happiness your interests brings you.
This is something that super confuses me too. My boyfriend has told me that I'm the first girlfriend he's had that shares his interest in not only just nerdy hobbies, but video games in general, which is absolutely astounding to me. Cause, like, what the hell did he do with his ex's?? LOL. Obviously I don't think everything needs to be shared, but I just can't imagine being with someone who isn't interested in video games as a baseline for christs sake lol.
My spouse and I met at a Fan Expo Con. We both had booths in Artist's Alley. I was looking for artists to eventually join my comic book publishing company that I was trying to start and I loved her artwork and then I saw her and the rest was history. Since then she has joined me in my miniature hobby, and some of my gaming interests. We also tried to get into the "spicier" things online that you and CC do... that didn't work out, unfortunately. 19 years married in January.
I agree. My wife was, when we met nearly 30 years ago, a gamer and loved sci-fi movies while I was a gamer and loved Horror. We've now been married nearly 20 years and both love movies, gaming, boardgames, anime and our daughter is the same. What I don't understand is what other people do? We know people who don't play boardganes, video games, little interest in movies or books and so I have no idea how they fill their time? Watching Love Island or somesuch!?
I don't think you need to share everything with your partner, hobbywise, but I think it's essential both to respect each other's hobbies, and to share at least something together. The Missus doesn't really understand how I can spend time painting minis - but she does gives me the space and time to do it, and she just does her own things while I'm at the painting desk. I don't think I would actually want her to have the same exact hobbies as I have as, say, painting, I love it's just MY SPACE. But then in the evening we get together and play boardgames together, often using the minis I've painted, and that becomes the thing that ties everything together.
This has been a very common peeve that my wife and I have found out about ALOT of people. We met through a MMORPG back in its golden era and we always find something to do together. Our interests look like a really good Venn diagram. So I'm grateful to have a SO that likes the same things as I do. Where we are lacking is friends that want to do nerd things as much as we do. Like it is nebulous to us how there are strong board game groups that can meet regularly and chew through campaign games or legacy games or have long standing competition in a game they will play weekly. I wish my wife could have a friend like Angela! She likes very much the same stuff: miniatures, painting, TCGs, conventions, etc.
I think most men would love a woman with the same geeky hobbies. It’s just so rare to find women into geeky things. So it’s either wait potentially forever or try to find someone that’s at least okay with not enjoying the same things with you. Or for a lot of people just give up on there geeky hobbies to fit in better with society.
THIS. This has been the bane of my existence all my life, and someone my age (over 50) is seen as totally undesirable when he is single, as nerdy as I am and doesn't have money to back it up. Finding a woman who is not young enough to be my daughter who is even remotely into the same things as I am and is a good person as well is something I've pretty much given up on. More important things to worry about in this life and in this economy than that, frankly.
You're not missing much. Those of us with wives have the privilege of feeling alone right next to someone who doesn't seem to like anything that you do.
Our differences are what brought us together. I've always stated that if we used a dating app today, we would never get matched. We play some games together, but not all, we do things together or with separate friends. Sometimes it works and it's worked for us for 37 years. :)
I disagree, depends on how your partner deals with it. My wife and I are together for 10 years, and we share some hobbies and other stuff we do alone. She always encourages me to do my hobbies and never stops me from doing it, neither do I do that to her. Be supportive and let your partner enjoy what they like. I love them more than just their hobby preference.

You do need to have overlapping intrest be that genre of visual media, or games, or fitness ect. The alternative is you like them heaps and don't hate their intrests so can still share them somewhat.
I don't understand that either, but then again I do not understand most people and their values and priorities, too many just seem to waste their time on nothing. Board games at least are fun and the better ones has a potential of teaching the player something too.

My wife has ZERO hobbies. She gets excited when Christmas movie season starts… Meanwhile, I am cleaning, decorating, gardening and if I find time.. listening to my music or model making.

Its fun and we kinda compete with each other's collection lol. She would disagree probably. Confuses me as well. I have a brother that takes his vacation separate from his wife. It boggles my mind 😵💫
My wife considers wrestling 'a homoerotic pantomime' and when we moved house she wanted a spare room for my 'geek shite'. Our son joins me in this kind of stuff instead! 😅
No relationship is the same as another as no person is the same. Having shared hobbies isn't a be all end all for many couples. I don't mind intrest in my hobbies but I also don't care if there isn't intrest. There's other ways to share life than just doing nerd stuff.

reading many of the comments I feel bad for what I am about to brag about. My wife and I struck up our friendship by talking about our love for sci-fi and fantasy. Then I found out she was also a wrestling fan like myself and I invited her over to my place to watch Raw with me. That was 20 years ago last month.
Not that I wouldnt enjoy that, but, unfortunately my wife has zero interest in just about anything I do. It would be awesome if she would play Warhammer or some ttrpg, but no.
My partner loves vampire stuff that's her private geeky thing. Meanwhile where arranging book space I'm like heres 107 volumes of one Piece tankobans. She's like you can never buy another manga otherwise the entire shelf space will be manga. Fair enough can i buy specific miniatures and figurines to my favorite character that's not a main character? Sure as long as it's on you shelf space. Suddenly the entire Trafalgar D. Water Law and his heart pirates are on my bookshelves.
It is hard. However It's manageable. Although their problems seem to be more adult oriented and heavy. Compared to, oh no, the Joker movie is a musical!?!? This is blasphemous and I must take a mental health day to process this and such. 😆 🤣 😂
Couples who are together longterm do share something, even if its not a (geeky) hobby. Its called companionship. It doesnt need constant being in each other's pocket, nor sharing everything all the time. In fact, having seperate interests, and being comfortable with that, is a sign of trust and confidence in your relationship. No offence, but not everybody would be happy with their partner playing it up in skimpy clothing, for strangers, either.
most of the time people who don't share lots of hobbies with their partner have close relationships with their families, and most of the time people share all their hobbies with their partner kind of have shitty families, this is not like an attack at all that's just what I've noticed because when you can't express your childhood joys with your family you kind of NEED it in your partner

Amen to that! TBH is never a good relationship I've noticed when there is not some shared interest. It's so much harder to communicate.

I get sad when my wife refuses to learn MTG too, but even more sad when the kids didn’t want to.
