  • Nervous about Men's Nose Hair Waxing? Don't be!
Waxing your nose hair is a great way to help you breathe as well as get rid of those annoying and embarrassing hairs that love to pop out at the worst times.
Keep in mind, you don’t want to just shove a stick with a ball of wax up your nose without knowing what you’re doing! Going too far up into the nose can seriously damage your nose. You only want to remove the hairs right on the inside of the base of your nose, nothing further.
I only recommend hard wax when doing a nose wax. Soft wax could easily harm areas with a sensitive skin lining, such as the inside of your nose.
Hard wax is more similar to candle wax. You lay it on and wait for it to cool. This allows for the wax to encapsulate the hair and suction cup it so when you pull the wax off, the hair comes with it. Hard wax only adheres to your hair, not the skin so it also hurts less than soft wax and is safer on the skin.
    To Wax Nose Hair:
First, if they have facial hair, cover it! I use a little piece of paper towel to cover the hair. Other people just add a little dab of oil but I still get nervous the hair will get stuck, so I only use a paper towel. Also, if they have a nose ring, remove it! Definitely don’t want wax getting stuck on there and potentially ripping it out!
Second, you’ll clean the area with a pre wax cleanser. Some people like to then use a pre-wax oil, I tend to not feel the need to do that though. If your client has facial hair, like mine does, you’ll want to ensure to cover those hairs so wax doesn’t get stuck in the hair. Not good!!! I just rip off a little piece of paper towel so I can place it over their facial hair before I wax them.
Next, get a tiny ball of wax on your small stick. You want the wax to be slow moving, like honey or molasses. If the wax falls right off your stick, it’s too hot and you will burn your client. If it doesn’t move at all, then the wax is too cool and won’t be able to adhere to the hair.
Once you get a small ball of wax on your stick, make sure your paper towel is there to cover their facial hair and place it just in the inside of your client's inner nose. I only recommend going about half a centimeter inside the nose with your stick. Spin the stick and move it around to all sides of the nose so you can ensure you get all the hair. Give it a light squeeze so that wax is sure to stick to those stubborn hairs.
Wait until the wax feels hard to the touch, then pinch the nose and pull! PULL HARD! Don’t hesitate as this will cause a lot more pain to your client.
I always check the nose and see if any hairs were missed. Nose hair can go in all different directions so it’s not uncommon to have to do a second pass. I tend to like to do a second pass in the “bat cave” which is the upper corner of the nose. Everyone is different though so it really depends on what your client needs.
After the wax I will use a little post wax lotion or even some hydrocortisone cream just on the outside of the nose.
Then BREATHE! It feels so cool to breathe through your nose without those little hairs on the base. Voila, you’re all done!
