The Smile - ALL 11 UNRELEASED SONGS + LYRICS

- With The Smile back on tour, I thought it would be cool to compile all 11 songs they've played but never released. I found the best recording for each song, and added lyrics to follow along to. 11 songs...looks like they have an LP3 already! The songs were compiled from live recordings between 2022 and 2024. Enjoy!

They have already another new song - "Don't Get Me Started" - probably their most experimental work in The Smile.
Just uploaded a lyric video for that! ua-cam.com/video/Wn9Xxap18NI/v-deo.htmlsi=sTWAmR7b0pV2zPGW Bizarre song!
My favorite
I wouldn’t call it experimental but it’s certainly electronic. Id say Wall of Eyes is more experimental because of the strings and Colours fly is more experimental because of the effects and Jonnys world music inspired harmonies on guitar
add to this playlist!
@@lloydzarathoustraIn terms of how much it matches a standard song structure it is very bizarre, and the rhythm at the start is slightly delayed on even beats, which is extremely bizarre.
instant psalm is beautiful, i've been looking for it since i saw them play it live, it was amazing. i really hope it gets an album release, honestly one of their best songs
Kinda reminds me of "All tommorow's parties"
Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses is already a Thom Yorke single, but that doesn't discard the possibility for it to get a different version from The Smile. Hope it does.
Unlikely IMHO
I feel like FPAbH is almost like an easter egg for people who know Radiohead and side projects well. I kind of like that the song never gets to be "definitive". With every new project the song is being taken into a slightly different direction.
The original Thom Yorke single is (imo) the worst iteration of the song
Sucks that that's the finalized version :,(
@@donnerthereindeer366 kind of agree with you on that. Liked the 2001 live version the most.
I love all the versions, including the earlier "Reckoner" track by Radiohead (not the In Rainbows track). Atoms For Peace nailed it and The Smile took it to another level!
Feels like without the pressure Radiohead brings, they're able to just test new stuff, quick experiments. Like a young band just having fun.
Interesting considering they were already always experimenting in radiohead
@@alphalax7747Yeah, I agree, they're always trying new things, it's what makes them so good. My point was more in the sense that they've been releasing and playing new stuff more often. Two new albums in 2 years and they're still playing new songs for a possible third album.
@@alphalax7747 The difference I'd say with Radiohead is that they would constantly iterate a song to the point that it would sound different when it'd actually be released. Where as with the smile the early versions are very similar to what is actually released.
@@alphalax7747 The experimenting in Radiohead was always extremely belabored and exhausting for them. Each album was a struggle to record. The Smile while also experimental, has been a different story in terms of the pressure they feel. You can tell this is a band just having fun and not taking it too seriously.
Yeah RH do seem a teeny tiny bit experimental 🙂.
Shaking things up & finding something new to be excited & passionate about gets us unstuck from ruts. RH’s writing/studio process is so meticulous. It’s part of their identity & they’ve made some of the most incredibly engineered albums to ever exist. Doing it for decades with the same people will inevitably get stale. The Smile can just jam the eff out with & record “conventionally”. There’s three of them.. Hopefully these other endeavors will be rejuvenating for RH & they’ll release ten more amazing albums.. One every 6 months🙂

I love Thom more than anything else❤
This Seattle soundcheck is giving me great hopes of becoming an easy to listen pop song, something to finally play at chill parties to convert people to Radiohead and The Smile haha !
What the actual f is going on in the smile right now!
That third album is starting to seem like it might be my favorite album ever!
Cant wait for Just eyes and mount, and Bodies laughing
Thank you for this, and going the extra mile to add lyrics.
I went to the 2022 Seattle show and I didn’t even know someone recorded the soundcheck !
i was there too! Best night of my life
im loving that they remade the talk show host riff from 2016 into an actual song
Just realized that! Just eyes and mouth!
What do you mean with talk show host riff from 2016. that song came out in 1996... ?
there was a live performance of the song that they did in 2016 where jonny did a solo during the outro part, and that solo riff was then recycled into what is now just eyes and mouth's main riff@@Atlas65
@@Atlas65 New riff that they added in the live version for the AMSP tour
@@ARadioheadDeepDive Oh ok I haven't heard that. I didn't even know that they would still perform Talk Show Host. I thought that that was just something that they did in the 90's, maybe early 2000's.- Maybe I'll find it, or you'll provide the link.
I think the first "leave us in" at 1:54 in Instant Psalm is actually "lead us in", and then the second time the lyrics is leave us in. And at 3:46 "I owe it all to the sides" is "I'm holding on to the sides"
Yeah there aren't official lyrics so I bet I got tons wrong, especially for the Seattle Soundcheck. Didn't even attempt the other two soundchecks!
@@ARadioheadDeepDive oh yeah, no, I didn't intend to criticise.. I was just offering some alts!
This is a pulkington moment right here!
PULK FOR PRESIDENT!
There are barn doors and there are revolving doors
You're awesome for this
bodies laughing sounds like a happier knives out
Especially the classical guitar version! The bass is totally the knives out riff
also kind of like cut a hole with the chord progression
Very nice. Thank you for this!!!
This is excellent. Thank you!
I salute you for this 🙌
Bless you for the job
Thanks for that!!!! Finally someone was able to upload such a collection without it being taken down ):
This is excellent - you read my mind!
You're a hero! Thank you for doing this. New subscriber. 🤗
Nice job, thank you very much! New sub.
I like the delicacy of Tiptoe
So, it's definitely gonna be another The Smile album, then. Don't seem likely that they will convert all this into Radiohead songs.
Radiohead seems so old hat and boring compared to the Smile. I'm hoping the Smile continues on and on for the forseeable future.
Jajajaja nmms
@@Chinaboatman actually a very ridiculous thing to say
@@Oh_Phoenix Kind of, but it's always ridiculous to compare. Still a valid opinion though. And the more I hear from the Smile, the more I am excited for new stuff. Radiohead is amazing, but is it still the vessel for their most lively output right now? We'll have to see when they get back together to record some stuff. Until then though, the Smile is so versatile and unapologetically cool and experimental. Old Radiohead, New Radiohead, Thom & Jonny's solo work are all coming together here. Best-of-all-world's kind of thing. I'm always going to be the most hyped for a new Radiohead release, but AMSP, as much as I love that album to bits, seems lacklustre in comparison to WoE. Might be recency bias though.
Thanks from Minsk
Thanks for the upload!!! Could you post dont get me wrong too please
Already up!

Thanks great!!!
Tiptoe gives me some Miyazaki’s scores vibes
it would be great to see if thom does a full band version of feeling pulled apart by horses for an album. his solo version is pretty good tho
The Glastonbury '21 version of "Just eyes and mouth" is killer. Would love to see it with TKOL-era b-side "Staircase" on a proper album release
Staircase is one of my all time favorites. Although it only got a From the Basement release I am completely pleased with it, but I agree
How did you clear up the vocals so well
If The Smile released 'skirting on the surface' from Radiohead, then why not release 'cut a hole'?
They should!!! And i feel like with some reworking it could totally match the vibe of like Instant Psalm and Don't get me started!! Never know...
Because they are saving it for Radiohead.
💖💖💖
Hey man, this is great, Thanks for doing this. I was wondering if there is any way to get an MP3 download for this or if you know of any way to somehow get this onto my phone. If not, that’s fine, just wishful thinking on my part.
Yeah of course! Others were asking so I already uploaded it. Includes a better version of the new bodies laughing and Don't get me started

@@ARadioheadDeepDive Thank you so much!
The quality sounds spot on - well done for this! You don’t happen to have Flacs for these do you?!
I am getting the MP3s together now. Someone just made an even better recording of the new bodies laughing too. I will send them over when I can!

@@ARadioheadDeepDive that is fantastic thank you for your time and effort in sourcing these! 😁
Can you put the names of the shows that these recordings came from in the description?
Yeah, some of the songs I downloaded a while back so I will have to look for that info but will do!
Alright I added a comment with the info!
@@ARadioheadDeepDiveMorning - the info list above for where the tracks were played/Date etc - The info for Don't Get Me Started is missing! Also, are you able to add the file for Don't Get Me Wrong too? :)

But feeling pulled is already released...
Instant Psalm is very Velvet Underground.
Do the velvet underground also have such intense songs?
Honest thoughts:
Instant Psalm: The melody is too sing-songy for my taste. Not currently a fan of this track.
Bodies Laughing: Did not initially care for this song but the groove has grown immensely on me. However, the current arrangement ditches some of that groove and goes for a samba feel similar to that of Wall Of Eye's title track. I think I prefer its initial arrangement. Look forward to hearing it develop and hope for a studio version.
Seattle Soundcheck: Cool little funk jam. Would like to hear this one fleshed out. Is it possible this is a cover of some sort? It's so straight-forward compared to much of their work.
Just Eyes And Mouth: This one has been around since the first performance. I always kind of passed it by. The guitar work is definitely cool. I think it would have fit best on ALFAA but that doesn't mean I don't want to hear it somewhere else. Some of the chord changes are absolutely killer.
Zero Sum: is a fucking horror film score mixed with Talking Heads. Totally rad. Love it. Need this on LP3.
Luxembourg Soundcheck: Sounds beautiful from what I can hear but that is admittedly limited.
Macerata Soundcheck: Again, not a ton to go off... More to be revealed, I suppose.
Colours Fly: My absolute FAVORITE unreleased song from The Smile. Was gutted it didn't make WOE but I suppose it may not have worked in the grand scheme of the tracklist. God. Such a menacing track... I would have liked them to fit it in somewhere earlier in the tracklisting, end the album on Bending Hectic, and leave out You Know Me! That track just does not work for me and it certainly doesn't feel like a fitting album closer for WOE. Having said that, Colours Fly and Zero Sum might make a super nasty pairing on LP3.
Tiptoe is a nice piece. I would have much preferred it to be the closer on WOE than You Know Me! I still don't know if it would be an appropriate closer after Bending Hectic but I'm sure I could get behind it more than I can You Know Me! It might be nice to have those calming strings and piano flittering after the heavy, crunchy Bending Hectic climax.
Don't Get Me Started: This one didn't grab me initially. Far too barren sounding for my taste. Reminding me a lot of Tomorrow's Modern Boxes. However, even the barren part of the song is growing on me and the ending is absolute fire. Beautiful synths.
true fan right here writing a proper essay
I like how you say: "Zero Sum = horror film score mixed with Talking Heads", so in other words, just Talking Heads, lol. Like, man, imagine if Talking Heads had kept going deeper into what they were doing on Fear of Music/Remain in Light. We would've had lots of tasty Zero Sum-like cuts now. It's great to hear those killer albums are still echoing today.
Also, You Know Me! is a grower man.
fugazi + pixies + sonic youth is zero sum
