Wow let me say this: Li's story is some traumatic stuff for Chinese. I've sat in 'Struggle Session' buildings and learned far more than I wish I knew about The Cultural Revolution. Naive Ameriacns and Canadians (esp Canadians are now going for it, full-on) they just don't know how ugly, how mentally-ill, how evil this gets. Li gets it.

Thanks for another very interesting interview! Unfortunately, nothing that Erica said really surprised me - the comparisons of our own times with the Cultural Revolution have been obvious for several years, and - without intending any disrespect - the medical profession changed its remit from the treatment of disease to social engineering many decades ago, so seeing it wholeheartedly embracing the new ideology should not come as a shock.
Still, getting the facts out to a wider audience is always important.

I would have liked to know how her family maintained religious practice under pressure in China and after immigration to the US. How did that feel, how did religion influence Erica's thinking and values? Could there be another talk about finding personal values and consciousness development? And how that effects social engagement?

So weird. About the time Erica was born, I was in a dorm with about 5 professors from a college in Guangxi. There was one guy who was the "party" guy, but not in the usual college dorm sort of way. He yelled at them when they got jobs and bought jeans. As I listen to this, I'm reading about the Mar a Lago raid. I'm thinking of that age old curse, "May you live in interesting times."

I have been advised by HR that it is offensive to refer to websites that give a multifactorial analysis of women's earnings, or to suggest that it is in contravention of established laws to favour employees on the basis of sex.
They don't need to engage in communication, they just make claims and put you through the mill. Their aim is to get rid of employees that dare question what's going on.
It's pretty nerve wracking when your income and home are put on the line.
It's actually bullying and illegal, but anyone who's attempted to protect themselves from their employer by using the law knows they can kiss their job goodbye. HR will hound you untill you leave.

My time wasn't wasted. I thought your commentary on your life was motivational. It's inspiring to hear from someone who made good choices and is reaping the rewards. Especially the perspective of what you found interesting, the community etc, the influences on your choices.
That holds up a mirror to those who may have made bad choices, to figure out what has to change for them to be able to make good choices. Which is very helpful.
The other part which was not about your life was boring. Which doesn't make you boring, if you get my meaning. But if you're going to repeat boring stuff, be prepared to be found boring for doing that.
