As a Welsh speaker I have to say i am impressed by his Welsh rendition of this song. Welsh is not an easy language and he did brilliantly. Chwarae teg Donny.
well fair play to Donny Osmond , enormous respect for making an effort to learn and sing such a beautiful welsh song , even in English its beautiful , such a wonderful gesture on his part to learn this song and include it , many thanks from the valleys
As another iconic Welshman would say:"I know, cos I was there". It was pouring with rain but what a concert, especially when he sang this. The applause was great when he sang in Welsh. Well done, Donny!
Wara teg (well done ). Not easy to sing in Welsh if you don’t speak it.Myfanwy is a song composed by Dr Joseph Parry from Merthyr Tydfil in 1875 and Donny Osmond’s family have been connected to Merthyr Tydfil since the 1500’s.His great great great grandfather on his late mother’s side was a surgeon in the Cyfarthfa Iron Works saving many lives. So in a way Donny Osmond was coming home.
That was so emotional to watch! I’m coming to see you in Cardiff in December. The first time I will have seen you and been a fan for over 50 years. I’ll probably cry all night 😂😂😂
No, it just means you recognize real talent and age has nothing to do with it. Donny worked hard to learn this song in Welsh and those who were there said he even did a pretty good job with the correct pronunciation.
A beautiful and musically talented young lady from the Cardiff area drew my attention to this song about 2 years ago.Sadly, we are no longer in touch, but I get a lump in my throat whenever I listen to Myfanwy. Such a haunting melody and such touching lyrics, even though I don't speak Welsh. Thank you, wherever you may now be.
Well adored donny as a teen grew up with their music hes still amazing singer so a combination of his and welsh Male voice choirs singing my most favourite song ever is superb...rhyfeddol o dda fy Hoff gan x
Parch mawr, nice one Mr Osmond. I've not heard that song in English before, so glad I waited for the second half/fersiwn wreiddiol. Diolch, thank you for posting.
As a Welsh Lady, I am totally gob smacked to find Donny Osmond singing this very traditional Welsh song Myfanwy 😮😮😮. You nailed it Donny !! ❤ I just wonder how on earth he came to sing it??? 🏴🏴🏴🏴❤❤❤🥰
His family is from Merthyr Tydfil in Wales. He filmed this concert at Cyfarthfa Castle for a show called "Donny Comes Home", which aired on TV and audio was streamed online. He learned this song to honor his heritage.
joseph Parry lived in an Ironworkers cottage inside the grounds of the Castle. The Osmonds ancestors also came from Merthyr. This night was a terrible storm but the music was great....
This concert was at Cyfarthfa Castle Merthyr Tydfil where Donny,s ancestors. Were from..NB Not Cardiff which was a little fishing port at the time his family were in Merthyr..Myfanwy was composed by another little boy from Merthyr JOSEPH Parry
+Evan Owen - the welsh were born to sing, as were the blacks and the italians!!! no wonder the ossies could sing! i think they had welsh blood in them.
Amazing how much better he sings Myfanwy in Welsh. Its such a beautiful song, but listen to Cerys Matthew singing Myfanwy if you want to hear the voice of an angel
Why is it anger oh myfanwy that fills you're eyes so dark and clear. Your gentle cheeks sweet myfanwy why blush they not when i draw near. Where is the smile that once so tender kindled my love so fond so true. Where is the sound of your sweet words that drew my heart to follow you. Myfanwy boed yr holl o'th fywyd Dan heulwen ddisglair canol dydd. A boed i rosyn gwridog iechyd I ddawnsio ganmlwydd ar dy rudd. Anghofia'r oll o'th addewidion A wneist i rywun, 'ngeneth ddel, A dyro'th law, Myfanwy dirion I ddim ond dweud y gair "Ffarwél".
Thank you, Cathy. I never really believed anyone actually read these posts. All the greater my delight over your comment. I actually sang the song at a couple of gigs here where I live. Not easy when fighting back the tears.
Oh that could be what it was. one clip looked like he was drenched and sometimes as hard as he looks like he is working it wouldn't have phased me to think it was his BLOOD SWEAT and TEARS!! He is a worker bee to the nth degree!! Love watching him sing!!! Love watching him in the spotlight lately as a new grandpa--he must be high as the clouds.
No I just meant that most of the time people are like "I am 55 years old (aka Puppy Love's grandma counterpoint) thinking "I wonder what it would be like to go back to these years and I am thinking "I have never known these years" My worlds' main talents consist of lady gaga, britney, lohan, and mini-me model kids shows. Wow what talent!!
I absolutely love this song although it brings tears to my eyes. I have a amazing friend called myfanwy Nicholson and she hates it because it's her name is find it funny 😂
Ryan Davies is my favorite version in the welsh language of this song however this was very well sang fair play to him. I wonder if donnie had any welsh in him?

There was a large Welsh faction among the original Mormons (Osmond is one), and the Mormon Choir still sings hymns in Welsh.

We played a Welsh Male Voice Choir track of Myfanwy at my Welsh mother's funeral.. not a dry eye in the chapel, on the Welsh side.
This is the same concert as the other videos I posted recently. It was performed in Wales in 2007 (I think).
An American singing in the oldest language in Europe! amazing!
