On the confusion of Princess Willow being the Goblin King's daughter, we see that whoever holds the scepter becomes goblin-ified, so the Goblin King might have originally been a man or a fairy before he became king, which would explain why Willow doesn't look half-goblin. Or, we could consider that in the looser folkloric term, goblins could be considered members of the fair folk, so goblins and fairies are related. Like Robin Goodfellow in A Misdummer Night's Dream: he works for the king of the fairies, but he is a Puck, which is a kind of hobgoblin.
I long for the scenes where they explain any one of these and free up some of the other scenes that went on a little much. I want the deep goblin king parental lore
As a youngling I always took him as just being already a Goblin and just happened to marry a Female Fairie before the movie's events. It really is superfluous and that is likely the reason why the director(s) chose to omit it.
@@ScoobytopiaSad to know that Tim Curry had a stroke a few years ago I think back in 2008 and He is now stuck in a wheelchair so He will sadly probably never be able to walk or run or jog again.
I wonder if there is a term for this, but you gotta love the conventional “one tall skinny henchman, and one short and stubby one” trope. Like I swear I see it all too often in animation
Dont stop talking about the characters you find hot it's very funny every time you mention them especially the line about the Tim curry werewolf biting you
I realized just how old Casey Kasem had gotten when I watched the Samurai Sword movie (honestly can't remember its name) and heard how tired his voice sounded. I thought, "Yeah, time for him to retire". Then I heard him voicing Shaggy's father in Mystery Incorporated. I thought it was a good send off to him.
I respect and love that he carried out the what's new era but it was definitely the right time by these final films for him to pass Shaggy to Matthew Lillard and become the father figure as his final performance
Wallace Shawn is one of those roles where if you haven’t seen him in anything you’re fine, but if you have, you just hear his other roles 😂 still have to give the credit to get all this talent for the film, we could of gotten much worse, and THAT would of been scary 👻
You’ve literally unlocked a whole chunk of a childhood memory here for me. Like I distinctly remember being fond of the scene where the magician dude is being messed with by the main fairy character in his dressing room, AND I NEVER KNEW IT WAS FROM A SCOOBY DOO FILM TIL NOW. I’m definitely gonna give it a rewatch this month for sure!
As a kid this and the surfing one was my favorite because my parents would watch this with me and i love the halloween aesthetics that cartoon network would run and how it actually felt scary (to a kid :p)
Their transformation into monsters is one of my favorite parts and it's kind of disappointing they didn't actually get to do anything after that and just disappeared until getting turned back 🥲
Man when I heard the name "Goblin King", I thought Scooby and Shaggy encounter David Bowie along with some trials, weird creatures and they have to save a baby too.
12:14 I mean that’s a fairly common/ somewhat recently archetype of having 3 witches with one being the leader, the second being the hot/young one and the third the chubby one, even sandman in the comics had it, must be something based on a specific mythology or fairytale

Same, I was fighting to pay attention as a kid and likewise as an adult for this video. Just could not hold my attention whatsoever as much as I appreciated many of the elements. Sometimes these just aren't for everyone and that's fine as long as they do find their someone as this one has
My thoughts exactly. It has always seemed a little too all over the place for me. And it definitely is not scary - more goofy. I like the realism (or the genuine threat) of Zombie Island and Witch’s Ghost so much more than this. And the whole goblin song is so cringey to me. Maybe I am missing something!
My favorite part of this movie is definitely the whole Headless Horseman scene. I love the Headless Horseman and seeing him chase Shaggy and Scooby was awesome.
The stacked voice cast is probably due to how the voice director for the movie is Jamie Thomason. He worked with Greg Weisman on all three shows that he created/co-created, and was in many Disney movies and shows from the early 1990s up until the mid 2000s, with many actors from those projects being here.
This Scooby-Doo movie is certainly not perfect but I do enjoy it a lot. I really liked all the monsters and some of the catchy songs and it was fun seeing Fred, Velma, and Daphne in their monster forms! I thought that it was certainly creative. I’m glad to know that this movie has a good fanbase and I also respect that it’s not for everyone but for me it’s amazing! I will also admit that there is some overkill on just Shaggy and Scooby being the two main stars but I think they do carry the movie well and I like seeing them play off the monster characters!
12:11 I can see how people get a Hocus Pocus vibe from them (considering two ugly-esque witches and one attractive witch), but they more remind me of the Kanker Sisters from Ed, Edd, n Eddy
this one along with aloha scooby doo was my SHIT AS A KID- i was obsessed with it. also i love seeing shag and scoob being brave. its always really special to me because they push to do the right thing even when scared. that cat witch was someones awakening and i need to say that- so was werewolf velma. im not saying it was mine but it was SOMEONES.
This movie has an awful lot of detailish transformations and seeing how i had this movie on DVD and would rewatch it many times on a row as a kid... i rhink the mcoie awakened something ib me years later i did not expect
I was so hyped for this movie I made sure to catch it the first time it aired on cartoon network. Don't remember if it was actually worth that hype tho lmao.

He killed it as the butler in Clue and was very impressive as Pennywise in the original IT mini series. This is one of the only Scooby movies I haven't seen yet, not because I didn't want to but because I never owned it on VHS or DVD until recently when a friend of mine bought a four Scooby Movie DVD pack that had it in it from a thrift store. Going to watch it today for the first time.
Finally! That was a really enjoyable review! I knew a few things, but not the majority of facts you brought up here. It was also very special that you even showed us the actors behind the voice and their better known roles. You put a lot of effort in that! Plus- do I hear a track by The Fat Rat in the background? I really love his music!
If you get the chance I think another one you should check out is “Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School”, it might be a bit weird but it’s always held a special place in my heart.
I definitely would like to talk about the whole trilogy of the 80s TV movies including that, boo brothers and reluctant werewolf. Not sure when or what my spin will be, but I would like to!
Honestly the only thing I don't like about this movie is Velma's breakdown upon seeing it's all real. I much prefer the more modern Velma who is delighted when something real happens because it's something new to learn about
Her skepticism that can lead to this kind of breakdown is one of the only big flaws of her characterization during this particular era. She's always seemed much more like she would be fascinated upon realizing something like magic or monsters was real, which obviously has been rectified in the time since, so it's always weird to see her portrayed that way for comedic purposes during this time.
My gosh this voice cast is stacked. I am a sucker for Wayne knight, Wallace Shawn, and tim curry from voice roles they did in shows I grew up with, which is sad that I didn't enjoy this movie more. It rushes to new monsters when I would like to spend more time there. Plus that was the highlight for me. Because the plot is "evil guy wants powerful thing, try to stop that". What I would have changed is probably have some monsters be along side them like it is wizard of oz, that way you at least have new characters you can really grow attached to. Like I think ghoul school has a horrible plot but the monster girls make the movie. I could see adding a fairy, a goblin, and maybe a skeleton or ghost to the adventure could have helped.

I appreciate his final times in the role here much more because of that.
@@Scoobytopia I thought so on Casey’s final years and Scooby in Wonderland because I remember that they did do a Wizard of Oz episode with Scrappy. Also no one’s talk about goblins
Thanks for this video, it really made my day better. I am from Ukraine and today there has been more than 80 Russian missile strikes all over the country. Civilians were targeted, including the crowd of people heading to work during the rush hour, critical infrastructure was attacked and 4 regions were de-energised. And I’ve just managed to connect to the internet. Anyway, thanks for giving the opportunity to distract myself.
I think the movie is enjoyable but I do have a pet peeve of movies when only Scooby and Shaggy are present for a majority of the movie because they really need someone like Scrappy or Fred, Daphne and Velma to balance them out.
Legit loved this movie when I was younger, I liked seeing the monsters in the tavern scene with Shag and Scoob hang out like actual people rather than scaring the gang like they always do and the cameos of the older monsters from the franchise like the creeper and the sheepsnatching werewolf were a plus, also loved the crossdressing potion scene and the haunted train (I was a sucker for trains when I was younger so that was just a bonus) and I'm not going to lie but Goblin King legit had me down so bad so I don't blame you for falling for the werewolf. The one thing I didn't like about the movie though is that they revealed the ending too early (the transformation scene with Fred, Daphne and Velma) which kinda ruined the movie for me.
When i was a kid, I never enjoyed this for the sheer fact i thought that the 'goblin king' was the David Bowie goblin king from Labyrinth- i was severely disappointed that Shaggy and Scooby didn't break the fucky puppet physics with their cartoon physics or annoy the shit out of Jareth.
as a kid i love this movie i grew up with it and the boo brothers so I'm fine with the no mystery aspect of the film even though boo brothers did have some kind of Mystery it's still a fun movie and I think if you do it well you can do the no mystery thing for example scoob did a bad job at it in my opinion
I enjoyed the film when I was younger, but I only saw it once ‘cause there were better Scooby movies to watch. Revisiting i still like it, but still prefer the other Scooby films. P.S. the werewolf was a hunk
I adore them, but everybody and their talking dog has done them, including some very recently, and some including exclusive interviews with people that worked on them, so I find I don't really have anything I could add to the conversations on them and feel confident pursuing alas
@@Scoobytopia I’d say do them anyways as they’re such iconic movies even if people have done them before because everyone has their own stuff to add but waiting a bit might work too I love your content and can’t wait for more of it
My major problem with this film is how it ended I don't like how they had the game lose their memories it felt so unnecessary and I'm like why couldn't they keep their memories
It's definitely around the bottom of my personal ranking of Scooby movies as far as personal taste goes at least, but I appreciate it more than I did before
Reluctant Werewolf is probably my favorite instance, even out of the 80s trilogy. Something really charming about their interaction with the supernatural in that one that kept me coming back to it the most as a kid

The one thing I didn't like about the movie though is that they revealed the ending too early (the transformation scene with Fred, Daphne and Velma) which kinda ruined the movie for me.
i like this one a lot.....yearly rewatch definitely
9:47 is definitely the Scarecrow from The New Scooby Doo Movies
i hear this and all i can think is
sad there no david bowie
I think I remember watching this movie before, it was really good
I had a crush only on Werewolf Velma for the longest time as a kid.
Understandable
Yeah. I get that... Normal Velma is already pretty great, but add some fur...😻
The music 🎶 👌 😍, I like the music.
Another what new era movie that I grow up with
I remember the beginning being really slow to get going ( I haven’t watched this movie since I was really young mind you)
Daphne‘s cat costume in this movie…….let’s just say it awoke something in me as a kid…..
I'm actually going to be reviewing a Scooby-Doo episode for Halloween
this film reminds me of the best parts of Witch’s Ghost: Tim Curry sand real witches
Shaggy and Scooby wearing Daphne and Velma's clothes respectively made me say, "wow the ugliest stepsisters*
I wonder if they included those magic cards because in the early 2000’s yu-hi-oh, Pokemon TCG and magic the gathering were popular
pretty sure the nostalgia for this movie is for the songs.
I enjoyed the film when I was younger, but I only saw it once ‘cause there were better Scooby movies to watch. Revisiting i still like it, but still prefer the other Scooby films.
P.S. the werewolf was a hunk
I still own the film on DVD
Hi Nate this is my favorite what's new Scooby Doo movie
Should definitely do the 4 movies from zombie island-cyber chase
I adore them, but everybody and their talking dog has done them, including some very recently, and some including exclusive interviews with people that worked on them, so I find I don't really have anything I could add to the conversations on them and feel confident pursuing alas
@@Scoobytopia I’d say do them anyways as they’re such iconic movies even if people have done them before because everyone has their own stuff to add but waiting a bit might work too I love your content and can’t wait for more of it
This was a okay movie I enjoyed it but I agree with your Complains about it.
My major problem with this film is how it ended I don't like how they had the game lose their memories it felt so unnecessary and I'm like why couldn't they keep their memories
Shaggy and Scooby kept their memories if I remember correctly.
Cool movie, it would've been cool if the ghoul school girls made a small cameo
Glad someone else is in the boat of "this movie was pretty boring in spite of everything it has going for it"
Sorry but I personally think there are better scooby doo films than The Goblin King. However, it has grown on me with time
It's definitely around the bottom of my personal ranking of Scooby movies as far as personal taste goes at least, but I appreciate it more than I did before
I enjoy this Movie.
Yes, Please!
I kind of think supernatural stuff works well when it's just Shaggy and Scoob, like in this and in Reluctant Werewolf and stuff
Reluctant Werewolf is probably my favorite instance, even out of the 80s trilogy. Something really charming about their interaction with the supernatural in that one that kept me coming back to it the most as a kid
3:39, I think everyone liked his roles as Dr. Franken-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show than Pennywise from IT!
Just saying.
