As a kid, Central Airlines, later Frontier, flew the mail in rural Oklahoma/TX. Stopped at every town about 30 miles apart, so my route was 6 stops. I was about 11 and fretting about the quick ups and downs. A nice man next to me told not to worry. It was the safest plane of the year….
    …in 1936!

I have to share...In 1981 I was a very young court reporter working in Los Angeles Superior Court. During my lunch I would usually get to my courtroom early and sit and proofread while waiting for court to start. As I was walking down the lunch deserted hallway, I looked to my left and saw a very big hat....underneath was Ricky Nelson sitting by himself. One of my friends had been in his courtroom that day, he was getting a divorce from Kristen Nelson, and she mentioned he was very shy. I walked over to him and said if he was looking for a disguise, the huge hat really wasn't doing a good job. He laughed and said, "Well, it keeps people away," and so I apologized and made to leave and he said, no, would I mind sitting with him? He said people don't bother him as much if he's with someone. So I said, fine, sat down and enjoyed my lunch hour sitting and listening to his feelings about his divorce, his career, trying to make a comeback, where he was playing, Kristen's substance abuse problems, etc. He was truly a special person and incredibly nice (and shy) man.

    My 3 favorite guys!
Hey Todd, the Otis Redding crash would be an interesting one to hear you guys discuss.
There isn't much about it, except it went down in the water.
Thanks to all 3 of you for this show, and all you've done throughout your careers to promote aviation safety..
I would also like hearing about more of the older commercial aviation accidents from 60s 70s, and 80s.
Thank you all again, and tell Greg I miss seeing him with you and Big John.

The Pilot of the Redding crash was NOT instrument rated. Nothing more to know.

My first flight was in a DC-3 from Columbus, OH to Pittsburgh. It was low and slow and a great experience.

You don’t have to be a genius to know that if you are a musician and have to fly private to make your gigs, your
Risk/reward balance is not good. Space out the gigs and fly commercial. In the end, it’s usually greed that brings down the final curtain.
