The thing with The Lord of the Rings and it's history has been told. The story is finished. There is no need to continue making more stories from the universe since we know everything already. Let it stay finished that we watch every year and have Hollywood make movies from other books that havent been adapted to movies or tv shows. Even Tolkien knew to end LOTR and not continue writing more stories after the events of Return of the King.
Uhm, no, thats all incorrect lol. There is a couple of stories after RotK that he wrote and considered writing. And the entire Silmarillion, Appendices, Book of lost Tales, Akkalabeth and whatnot are right there to faithfully adapt into masterpiece movies just like Lord of the Rings. No idea why that seems so hard to do for modern Filmmakers, but the potential is there. The Lord of the Rings is a very tiny part of Tolkiens Legendarium compared to the rest of it. And you dont know everything already unless you have read all of his Works, and even that isnt complete because there is still tons of Manuscripts Tolkien wrote that havent been compiled and released.
These soulless cash crabs made every LOTR fan die inside. The Amazon garbage series now this. All they are doing is trying to milk Tolkien they don't give af so fk em

I was kinda upset over the fact it was a movie. This whole time I thought it was gonna be a series. Which if ur talking about a lotr property it needs to be broken up into parts so you give story and characters room to breathe, something a series could do.
It's not bad, but it's every generic fantasy anime movie ever made. Rotten tomatoes has it at 49 percent for reviewers and 84 percent for the public with the movie objectively under performing in terms of money made, my opinion is that knew this movie was coming out for a few months and the trailer and the movie feels like a really well made fan anime posted to UA-cam Idk know why this got a theater release, fr 90 percent of theater movies released in 2024 bombed in terms of money and dreading all the movies coming out next year. 4/10 movie for me
My mate who's working in the US told me him and his wife went go see "the LOTR anime movie" and I burst out laughing. I thought he was joking and i was very surprised when it was legit and id never heard of it 😂
What's the surprise? They turned one of the most beloved film series of all time and made it anime... Its not that it lacks originality or effort... Its just no one fkn asked for this. NO ONE AT ALL... So lets not get upset no one watched it...
For an adaptation they definitely used a lot of the lore threads from the House of Eorl Appendices in the books. The major changes was Fréaláf not killing Wulf and Gondor not coming to Rohan's aid against the Dunlendings at the end. Certainly a way better Tolkien adaptation than what the gobshite of ROP is at least.
Saw the movie Saturday and found it quite enjoyable. I already knew going in what it was based on, and it was pretty faithful to the 3 pages of source material. Helm was still a badass and Hera wasn't some Mary Sue despite what some are trying to claim. Sure animation is a bit of a mixed bag, but not enough to take you out of the film. Honestly a lot of the complaints people have make them come off as genuinely stupid or that they never saw the film to begin with, but are still gonna whinge about it.
Charlie, you won't see this, but that video explaining your income finally got me to pull the trigger with my own streaming. Thanks for the inspiration, dude.
I really liked the film. Nothing compared to the Rings trilogy obviously, but it has a lot of aspects that land right with me. First of all, it's one of the only 2D theatrical releases we've gotten since, what, Princess and the Frog? Helm Hammerhand was handled wonderfully, and I personally don't mind them having Hera as the protagonist; if anything, the amount of blank space Tolkien left with her and Wulf felt like fine room to make new material with. And as such, she felt like a good omen to Eowyn. There were definitely some noticeable cut corners in terms of story and animation, but for what it's worth, I think the film had plenty of refreshing aspects to it.
I'd never even heard of it until now. Lord of the Rings... in ANIME form? Sign me up... for dance classes, because that seems infinitely more interesting than this movie.
I thought the movie was okay. Not great, not terrible. Certainly not the "guyladriel" driven movie some make it out to be. But on that note, I thought Helm was a mote interesting character than his daughter. I thought the movie should have revolved around him, not his daughter, who Tolkien didn't even name in his works. The movie kind of dragged after a while and I found myself looking at my watch towards the end So not a terrible movie, but not a great movie. It was enjoyable, but not near the original trilogy heights.
That's why hardcore Tolkien fans are upset. We were told we were going to get an animated version of one of the coolest stories in the appendices, but it was fundamentally altered so that some random chick was responsible for all of it. It's not a "minor change" like some people are making it out to be. Anyone with a functioning brain and a small amount of critical thinking skill can see what this is. I agree, its not nearly as bad as Guyladriel but it's still hijacking a story for some "yaaaaas queeeeen" moments.
@@mavisbeacon6770 What are you talking about? It was obviously the story of Hammerhand told from the perspective of his daughter. Responsible for all of it? Did you watch the movie, or even this very video where Charlie correctly states that Hera didn't acfually do a whole lot? The only thing she really did was call for aid near the end of the seige. The story is the story of Helm Hammerhand happening to her. And what "yas queen" moments? @@mavisbeacon6770no?nhis dupaughter wasn’t made some one man army. She was a spectator, she played her hand in the final parts of the movie, but until then helm is a beast.
Why arent things allowed to end. Only 4 books were made, technically 5 if you count The Silmarillion. I know this movie was only made to keep the lotr license, but come on. She was in a single line of a book and they made a movie out of it, I don’t think you can stretch it more than that.
Because there’s an appendix with a bunch of events that aren’t mentioned or briefly shown in the movies so they take those and push a film out of it even if it’s mentioned ONCE
I saw it and I liked it. I have to agree with Charlie here that Hel definitely felt like the main character. Hera was mostly an extra or way to stretch the story. I did think the voices were ok and the story was good. 8/10 for me
I saw it last night. The beginning starts off rough as a classic "shojo" or something, where it's female protagonist with 2 hot dudes fighting over. Then in cliche fashion (for this genre of storytelling), she fucks everything up and shit goes south. Movie actually gets pretty good towards the end. Last 1/3 is great.
Sorry, but who are the two hot dudes fighting over her? There is only one guy who wants to marry her thats on screen. And when exactly does she fuck everything up? Shes involved in the upfucking of the situation, but so is every other member of her family. But yeah, the last third is the best part. Helms One Punchman arc is the definite highlight of the whole thing^^.
In Canada right now there is a pause on taxes on certain things like food clothing and other stuff but there is not like on car payment and pay check deduction and those taxes
They created a story surrounding a random unnamed girl rather than about her father who is really interesting as a character and could've been expanded on.
I've only seen the movie, but he dies before the final battle, so I'm not sure that would've been the best move either. I think they did a good job with Helm Hammerhand anyway, he was really, really cool. Especially the whole winter sequence.
I’m still fucking pissed they named her Hera when Tolkien doesn’t use Greek names it’s bad enough that this is basically just a fanfiction, but there are actual fanfiction that follow the lore
@@tyaustin6114 Incorrect. The movie makes Hera the primary character moving the plot forward and responsible for most of the events of the story. That's is not at all how it plays out in the book.
I'll just add that the movie is based off of approximately 2 and a half ish pages of the appendices in the back of Return of the King. That of which does not go super super in depth. It being too long is definitely a probability. My issue with Peter Jackson's Hobbit is how long it is for such a short tale, and I think that ruins my enjoyment there. I'm still looking forward to this movie, can't wait to go see it.
It's not bad, but it's also not good. So many well written canonical characters were sidelined and glorified extras because of made up story for a character that barely has 2 sentences about her in the lore. Why do that? There was a good story there without making stuff up.
I rather enjoyed it, mostly because Helm Hammerhand was such a fun character. It also adds some nice context to Theodon's initial caution in LOTR. He didn't want to make the same mistakes. The action sequences get a little fantastical. But animated I thought they worked pretty well. Quite punchy and satisfying. Unfortunately most of the other characters feel a bit bland, and the main villain has a somewhat petty motivation, and the main character had transparently been shoehorned into Helm's story. Generally I feel like the writing could have been better, but it didn't ruin it for me by any means. I went in with basically no expectations. I had literally forgotten what movie my friend had invited us to watch! Still, it was a nice surprise.
The story this is based on is about 4 pages at the back of the Lord of the Rings. One-punch Hammerhand was actually MORE brutal in the book: it wasn't a fight. Freca insulted Helm during the summit, so Helm took him aside privately, disses the shit out of him, and then sucker punches him into the Shadow Realm before declaring the Dunlendings enemies of the state. Notably, the reason everything about Helm is so fucking cool and the story revolves around him is because he WAS the focus of the story in the book.
@@Goatlikeitornotwell… since this takes place in Jackson’s lotr universe it kinda has. The inclusion of the female lead kinda lessens the impact of Eowyn’s character arc because now all the “women can’t fight in the war” stuff she puts up with makes less sense because now canonically another woman (also from Rohan) already did it years ago
There were definitely a lot of head scratching moments. SPOILER . . . The entire assault on Edoras didn’t make sense. The siege tower was hyped up half the movie but was defeated by a dude with a fire bomb in 10 minutes
If "The voice acting is kinda flat and the animation is a little choppy sometimes" is how bad it is then I'm sorry that does not deserve a critic score lower than rings of power
@@yasahana4447 His literal only compliments were Helm Hammerhand and Wulf.

In an era where every adaptation is God tier or a bastardization, the scariest thing we could ever get is something that's just kind of good.
War of the WHAT, Charlie? War of the bloody WHAT? SAY THAT AGAIN.
Im a Lord of the Rings fan AND a Warhammer player, and to be honest i think it was just made for copyright and to sell merch. As soon as the movie was announced, Games Workshop (the company behind warhammer) revamped their Lord of the Rings miniature range and teased new models based on the movie. Its a bit money making machine
it was a cash grab yeah
That's all it was so Charlie being inconsistent in his cash grab takes just shows he's not the same. It happens slowly to everyone.
I was kinda upset over the fact it was a movie. This whole time I thought it was gonna be a series. Which if ur talking about a lotr property it needs to be broken up into parts so you give story and characters room to breathe, something a series could do.
NO, that would be a terrible move. This event in the chronicles does not give enough material to stretch out over a series; it makes a movie, no more.
In the RotK book the events of this movie isn't even double digit pages
Freca straight up moved like Morshu from Link and the Faces of Evil
😂 OMG now I can’t unsee that now
Helm Hammerhand isn’t called that for no reason, I’m glad he gets the spotlight cause he’s the main character in the lore
It's not bad, but it's every generic fantasy anime movie ever made.
Rotten tomatoes has it at 49 percent for reviewers and 84 percent for the public with the movie objectively under performing in terms of money made, my opinion is that knew this movie was coming out for a few months and the trailer and the movie feels like a really well made fan anime posted to UA-cam
Idk know why this got a theater release, fr 90 percent of theater movies released in 2024 bombed in terms of money and dreading all the movies coming out next year.
4/10 movie for me
True if being not as bad as people are saying a 4/10 is indeed better than a 3/10, cool it still sucks Charles, thanks for that

This leaves me very confident that the next year's Gollum movie will be terrible as it should be XD
What does gollum need a movie for?
3:45 ONE PUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNCCCCHHHHH

@@DinomotoMennovihave you seen Velma? I think it got a season two as well. Which would you rather watch? Haha
The movie kind of dragged after a while and I found myself looking at my watch towards the end
So not a terrible movie, but not a great movie.
The only thing even close is the final duel which was properly built towards.

Ehhh. There are some posthumous releases "edited" by Christopher like Children of Hurin, Beren and Luthien, and Fall of Gondolin.
Because there’s an appendix with a bunch of events that aren’t mentioned or briefly shown in the movies so they take those and push a film out of it even if it’s mentioned ONCE
Imagine a Middle Earth animation with the same quality and style as Arcane.
I saw it and I liked it. I have to agree with Charlie here that Hel definitely felt like the main character. Hera was mostly an extra or way to stretch the story.
I did think the voices were ok and the story was good.

Did you watch the movie? He’s in the majority of it and most of it is pretty accurate to Tolkien’s writings.
Bro are you kidding me. The movie was 80% about him
I’m still fucking pissed they named her Hera when Tolkien doesn’t use Greek names it’s bad enough that this is basically just a fanfiction, but there are actual fanfiction that follow the lore
Me and my friend saw it and both agreed it was at least a 6/10 movie. Not great but not bad.
The movie certainly wasn't bad but it was just like a 5.5/10 that had the plot of a Fire Emblem rom hack and felt an hour longer than it actually was.
10:00 apparently it was a reference to the "growing shadow from the east" or the foreshadowing of the return of sauron.
