- Clutch played Mississippi Nights club in St. Louis July 26th, 1996. This is the raw footage we filmed with 3 VHS cams feeding to a live editor. Audio is live mics by the sound board and a line feed (drum/vocals) all mixed with the video to VHS tape.
In my years of research, I've found that a Clutch show cures most anything that ails you. Another interesting find, is that Clutch happens to be without question, the most important, least heralded, and easily the best rock band to have ever formed. Fact.

Levi Bittner word
Agreed!
Fact.
Gospel truth brother
Jesus Christ this rocks so hard I can't take it. Neil's voice is like a goddamn bag of explosives being dropped into a barn fire.
‘90s Clutch was untouchable & unstoppable.
One of my favorite bands ever. They refined themselves, but this era is what I love.

willsonburg123 Early SoG was called "Feel Flava" back then and "8 Times Over" was called "Chain Reaction" around this timeframe.
That Jam sounds a lot like a really early version of The Dragonfly. Dig it!
I was at this show and hung with them backstage just before they went on. I worked for a local amplifier company and brought them some parts and an amp we fixed that afternoon for them. We smoked a big hog leg. I could barely stand up. I have no idea how they went on and performed ha ha
I'm from St. Louis, CLUTCH is my favorite band. This is as close to the holy grail as I'll get. Yes Please!!!!!!!!
fuck yeah, id love to see this set list noadays. went to see them in Cbus new years, was awesome
This is the best era for clutch , because it was unclear what genra they were. Were they hard core, rap rock, blues,
You know you're getting old when you watch a video and go to give it a thumbs up only to realize you already did and can't remember ever watching the video before
It's 5+ years since this was posted and it's still the best thing on UA-cam 😃
Congratulations, you have officially uploaded the best thing on the internet.
Please consier sharing your master vhs so we can spread it FREELY through the Clutch trading community.
Thanks for posting.
currently, america's greatest rock band! ...... and it ain't even close!
Damn, they look so... young! Neil didn't even have his trademark beard yet!
Admittedly I've never been familiar with clutch but I've been a #MississippiNights a lot ; I guess that's how it got suggested to me, but gosh darned that's some good rock
Holy crap, his voice. Chills down my spine.
What an absolutely fantastic band 👍
Fucking best band ever. The first time I ever heard of these dudes I was 14 walking around the local record store. They had Blast Tyrant sitting on the shelf that day - just the album art alone sold me on the fucking record. I put it in my stereo and the music matched the awesomeness of the cover. Been a hardcore gearhead ever since, seen 'em live 5 times already and have only missed 2 local shows - which I'm still kicking myself over (2008 and 2010?).
This was 13 years ago. One more year and I'll have been a Clutch fan for half my life.
Most underrated rock band of th 90s, 00s and now the 20s.
can't believe I've been seeing them live for 25 yrs!!!!! I'll never forget hearing them for the first time..they opened on a bill with orange 9 mm Quicksand and helmet and it was the elephant riders album and I knew I was seeing something that had legs and would last!! they snuck under the grunge radar and safely stood the test of time and continue to blow me away live! neils voice hit me like a train that night and the band was soo fucking tight..a true moment in my concert going history and I've seen it all from Zappa to Meshuga...they really restored my faith in real rock at the time! CLUTCH ALL DAY!!!
I always loved Clutch most before they started looking metal. Great share, thank you.
This is a great trip back trough time. I saw them for the first time live at almost the same period in Atlanta Georgia. It was the first of to many to count CLUTCH shows i have been to since. They became my favorite band that night and still are! LONG LIVE CLUTCH!!!!!!!
"NEVER LOOK A BOUNTY HUNTER IN THE EYE, DAMN!!!!!!!"That was so fucken tough dude!!! CLUTCH in their prime....this was so awesome. Reminds me of severalshows I saw back then... they've always been a relentlessly touring band and would come thru Tulsa pretty often. They're still a great live band but this just captures the raw intensity of their early days. Thanks for uploading.
+osensei75 No doubt. These dudes are road warriors. Back in high school (pre wikipedia) I thought they were a local band they were in Memphis so much. They would hang out and talk to high school kids after the show etc. These dudes are what music should be about!
WHOA that performance of Spacegrass was sick! Greatest video on youtube, hands down. Thanks for the post
Wow, I totally forgot Neil used to be clean shaven. This vid takes me way back. Awesome stuff!
This is just about my favorite live Clutch video. Neil's vocals are insane
I remember shows like this, I was going to Slayer concerts at the same time, let me tell you the intensity of the croud and mosh pit, were almost identical. You can't really imagine how raw it was compared to the live Clutch of today. That being said, it was the best thing going at that time, and the best thing going 25 years later. The grew up as a band but reality is, they had that shit figured out decades ago. Clutch is the best band in the GALAXY....I love you Tim like a brother, no guitar player ever has reached the other side like you have,....well maybe Jimi!
The greatest band on Earth!
I fucking loved these days!!
It was around the same time (96'ish) when I first went to a clutch show in a Dingy but, amazing club in NE Ohio, The Gargoyle..
Good times!
Would have loved to see them live in that era, I first got into Clutch when they released Strange Cousins. Saw em 6 or seven times now, best live band ever
An April fool's joke? Nay, just one of the best uploads in the history of youtube. Thanks bro.
So awesome hearin early versions of "ship of gold" and "8 times". And that early jam of 'The dragonfly' at 25:00 kicked ass. even without lyrics
nice! old school clutch. somehow my buddies and I got our hands on transnational speedway league. I had to be around 13 or 14 so that would be 1993-1994. im not sure when that came out, but we felt like we had something special. nobody else knew who clutch was. all these years later and its still like that. you know when you see someone on the street with a clutch shirt and you say cool shirt man, its like you're in the cool kid club.
It was just a few years later I saw these guys for the first time and followed them on the road for a few shows. Been listening proud ever since. 1605
ohhh this fuckin takes me back. first time i saw clutch live was at mississippi nights. thank you so much for the upload.
4 years ago I said it's 5+ years since this was posted and it's still the best thing on UA-cam. Well it's 9 years now. Thanks for posting this gem!
Right on!
Does anyone else have any of these great old 90's shows?
I'd pay anything to see a Clutch show from this era again!
So cool to see an old show like this from Clutch. Thanks for uploading ! Just saw clutch last week in Allentown PA... They are coming back to the heavy stuff again!
This is such a bad ass find! Thanks for posting this man! Back when I first started seeing them live, pre-beard. So hardcore! Clutch Rules!
Wow!... Unbelievable! This is the Clutch I remember from 1992.. Great band and to watch the progression over the last 20yrs... Amazing...Still a fan!
I feel vicariously proud to have performed on this stage. Saw a lot of great shows there. Thanks for upload.
man this takes me back to my moshing days... good times.
I was there.!!!!. Thank you so fucking much for taking the time to put this together. Can't believe I'm just finding this. So rad. Before it was common to film everything
hellraiser7874 Awesome! thanks man
+hellraiser7874 dude i saw you commenting on other clutch videos. you were at this show, 18 years ago..? i'm jealous. i was 9 years old back then. wish i could have seen them live in the old times. how old were you? how many times did you see clutch live?
+krischanBleibtNormal lol! man I was 22. and this still is the ONLY concert I've ever been to alone. probably seen these guys 10-12 times maybe. mostly in STL. they have one there in two weeks actually
really great! they don't come to germany as often, but end of november i'm gonna see em again :) rock on mate!
+krischanBleibtNormal Exactly what I was thinking! I would have been 8 when they played this gig, so gutted I'll probably never get see most of these oldies live. Awesome video.
This is the tour I was introduced to Clutch at the Embassy in London Canada. Still one of the best shows I've ever seen.
Just found this, sick video. Clutch is everything, everything is Clutch
I was there. .I remember this show. .Mississippi nights was great place for live show. .I miss this place
Jam at 24.55 sounds like an early jam that snuck into the Dragonfly.
Best upload ever! Sick footage of the best band going!
Totally brings me back to seeing them at the "old" 9:30 Club in Washington DC (930 F St NW). The raw and unpolished video and sound really makes it nostalgic for those of us who were there in the 1992-95 era ("prior to V Street). I think I'll go to the "Back Bar" for another beer.... :-)
Just saw Clutch in portland last night and Neil still had as much energy as he did in this show. Live Clutch is too amazing for words
Wish they had a live cd from these years..I miss the anticipation of seeing Clutch!#
Amazing! Love the early versions. The birth of great songs.
some of the most variety i ever saw in clutch is with big news 1/2 - just the most awesome combo how they roll in and out of the song and essentially just jam - every live version is a treat.
it would be great to see if anyone could have a bash at a HQ remaster of this and clean up the audio
I remember that show like it was yesterday, me and about 7 friends up in the first row gettin crazy and yelling the lyrics lol! We met them out front after that show, they were the coolest dudes and signed all our clutch gear! I still go to there shows everytime they come to stl, its damn near the family reunion with all the old school homies. Me yelling dodge swinger at 54:45 lol!
the best rock band in my opinion. made my day last October when i bumped into neil at a local beer store. very down to earth guy.
clutch RULZ!!
THIS RULES!! Look how young they were, DAMN!!!
This is just plain awesome!! Thank you! Reminds me of my first Clutch show...many many years ago!!!
Holy shit this is a helluva find. Much obliged!
Thank you for sharing this. I love Clutch and miss these old songs
saw them back in 94'ish in NYC, been a fan ever since
This is great! Brings me way back to the earlier days of Pure Rock Fury! Thanks for posting.
perfect ❤
Saw them not long before this show at Roseland Ballroom NYC. Seems like yesterday. Nixons were supposed to open but Pist-On filled in.
This is so damn cool- thanks so much for sharing! Brings back a lot of memories from seeing them during this time period.
Absolutely amazing find. Brings me back to gigs I saw in the States around that time. When are they coming to Ireland w/ Earthrocker? A band that was awesome then, and grew up to be awesome. Did I say awesome too many f'n times? In this case, totally apt.
Oh my Neil Fallon is so young. Hard to believe Clutch has held sway as one of rock's top bands this many years :)
One of the best bands I've idolized throughout the years. At first when I first saw them with Helmet back in 93 with Korn I thought they were a skinhead band. I was pretty naive then
Oh how I Loved thee Mississippi Nights........
Hells yeah who else is frickin diggin Clutch’s badass Maryland flag backdrop !!!
Thanks you very much.....you make my day !!
Representing the Old Line State withe the MD flag behind the stage...knowing C L U T C H and music like this is from my home state makes me proud to live in Maryland!
This video just totally interrupted my work day....:)
haha I totally agree! this really brings me back!
Nice!
wow, thanks for posting!
Dude I can't wait to see these guys on the 18th plus they are all so young its kind of weird!
great post
I first saw them open for Prong in Wilmington, N.C. in '94, I think. They had the Star Wars cutouts on stage. I saw them again about a year with Marylin Manson (yuck) and they were jamming on stuff that came out on "Elephant Riders." These were the Salad Days.
HOLY SHITBIRDS! This was my first Clutch show. I got kicked out because bouncers thought I was smoking weed. I wasn't...not then. Anyway I got back in. This rules. I cant stop trying to see myself :D
this is gold!
I love the way he sings here, compared to his new style.
I love his "Shroomed out hillbilly scream" he uses on their self titled and this show
Clutch is it... Best band ever...
HOLY.MOTHER.OF.CLUTCH.....THIS.IS.PIURE.ROCK.AWESOME...
I like the new stuff, but this Is the real Clutch. Hard as hell.
I'm not who you were replying to but Earth Rocker is a fantastic fucking album. There was a point where Clutch was just getting better with each release. At Robot Hive/Exodus they, sort of , peaked for me. The two , bluesy albums, afterward are great blues/rock albums but lacked that jokey punch their earlier ones did. Earth Rocker brings it back....as well as incorporating those great, punchy, blues riffs. Clutch fucking rules!
well i was supposed to go to a clutch concert tonight, but i couldnt make it... but this will do!
Best fuckin band ever. Period.
My these guys have certainly improved over the years.
Neil sounds incredible
Ahhh nothing like live metal
Even with such a cruddy recording... Still enjoyable... Clutch is the Shiz
Totally different sound without the beard 🤘👍
I can't believe I just now found this. I hardly recognize Neil.
greatest rock band in all the land!
thanks, mang
OMG!!!!
YES!!!!!
good old days.
Thanks, yeah it's a little rough but I wanted to get it up so peeps can check it out...I'll let the band decide if they ever want to do something pro with it.
Dan Maines is a firecracker as usual.... ;)
I fucking love Clutch.
thank mang
