Absolutely LOVE your 1988 4Runner! I am also a proud owner of a Black(orig factory color) w/Silver stripes, 1988 4Runner. I am the 2nd owner & bought my "Mountain Goat" 4Runner in 1994 when I was 24yrs old doing contract work for the Electric dept here in Middle Tennessee. My Mtn Goat came loaded w/options; it has the 3.0L V6, 4-spd Automatic w/Overdrive, a/c - still works great & the sweet orig tape deck still works(wrapped up & stored) although, my girlfriend (now wife of 23yrs) got me an Alpine CD-player back in 1999, still playing my Soundgarden CDs to this day. The 2 options she doesn't have are the sunroof & tiltometer. The tough but handsome gray, cloth interior is in excellent condition with the backseat looking brand new. I've run many different tires/sizes over the yrs but now stick with BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2s - 30x9.5 on a set of 15in 1998 Toyota Tacoma aluminum wheels. The KO2s being the best all around tire for daily street use and ready for offroading at the drop of a hat...WHITE LETTERS OUT. I love my '88 Mtn Goat and plan on keeping her til the end of the trail, so to speak. I am now beginning a complete restoration w/new shocks/coil overs, lift kit(nothing too aggressive), transmission rebuild, engine tune up(any LS V8 kits out there?), new carpet & new decals as the orig black paint still looks great w/a pro waxing/buffing. She doesn't really need too much to have her looking as good as your awesome Mammoth. She only has 195K miles as of today because for almost 3 decades working for the Electric dept then as a Natural Gas pipeline operator I had company trucks getting all the mileage. Love your channel & your bad-ass Mammoth 4Runner!
Great ride dude!! Literally pulled my front diff tonight to take it and the pumpkin to have 4.88s installed. Then 33x10.50s. Definitely resealing the oildad's! My aftermarket chrome bumper started rusting after one snow season.. Love the car seats! I have almost 2 yr old twins with seats in mine as well. 1st gen 4runner dads!
That looks like the Trail Gear rear tube bumper. Nice runner man! I’m currently building a 1st gen….and my second gen is a never ending project lol. They’re fun.
I'm pretty stoked I,just bought an 88 SR5 it's not perfect but that is ok. I also have a sweet 93 with all the goods. I like the 1st gen better, they just look cool.
Beautiful rig dude..I hope to get my 88 4runner looking good this next year..the mechanical rebuild has already begun...trying to find some 2nd or 3rd gen seats so I can start the interior upgrade...
Finally, a build video on this legendary rig! Love this rig man! Couple questions: 1) Where did you get the side decals? 2) it looks like you removed the trim on the windshield, is it just bare? And how does it affect the collection of rain?
Side decal was also eBay …just searched for 4runner decal. And yes the windshield trim! Completely forgot about that, I had some rust under there, had to replaced the windshield and found some through out where the trim was, the trim itself was on its last legs so I tossed it. They sealed everything up obviously but I still need either the OG trim or they sell a black plastic trim I was thinking of getting
It would dry off better and not collect any crud. I have to get mine done, I have a 1985 Toyota 4runner SR5 5 speed. I want to remove that front windshield trim and replace it with the rubber gasket from the 90's era Toyota trucks. I have the rubber gasket . just need to get an installer to install a new windshield along with the new rubber gasket.

with the 33s do you feel any wear on the wheel bearings?
Got a link for those bug deflector weather shields for the doors?
Link to your dash cover? My 85's dash has more cracks in it than a homeless camp
Etsy , also for your 3D created plastic toyota parts.
He kept saying stage one paint it's referred to as single stage, it does look fantastic though for a single stage paint job
Roof has definitely been redone. I’ve got tons of extra original parts
Ever figure out what the rear bumper is?
