Before launching into a potentially long beard growing journey it would be nice to set expectations.
Are you even capable of growing a beard?
What would the end result look like and if there are any techniques that could be used to grow a thicker beard?
How to know if you can grow a beard or not comes down to these four simple questions…
Before launching into growing a beard (and all of the waiting that comes with it).
Maybe you should have a look at the important questions that may help you know if you can grow a decent beard.
You need to look at your relatives, your beard hair density, your body hair and the hair growth for someone your age.
These are the important aspects of knowing if you can grow a beard.
But ultimately, no matter what the outcome, your beard will look good no matter what as long as you rock it with confidence!

Bro, I don’t know a single male member of my family. I’m so sad lmfao.
Just wanted to add clarification. Testosterone DOES NOT cause beard growth nor balding. The actual chemical is DHT, which is a metabolized version of testosterone. You can have high testosterone but lower DHT than others, as the systems that create the two are different. Facial hair follicles are different than scalp follicles, and are actually activated through DHT. However, many men have an allergy in their scalp follicles that reacts negatively to DHT. It ultimately slows blood flow, killing the hairs. Thats why most bearded men are bald. Hope this clears things up
An increase in testosterone is linked to higher dht levels.
so how do do you avoid getting bald then?
@@Ezz652 Finasteride is a solid route to go, especially if you're in the early stages. This medicine effectively reduces the amount of DHT the body produces, allowing the hair follicles to receive more blood flow. It has a bad reputation for causing ED, but a few studies have shown the ED rates in placebo groups were nearly just as high as the finasteride group (around 2%). Of course there's always a risk, as with any medicine, but don't let a very vocal minority scare you out of it.
Minoxidil is also a good choice as it doesn't affect your hormones. It more so acts as a fertilizer for your hair, allowing it to thrive even in DHT heavy environments. The downside is that it doesnt treat the source, and stopping minoxidil means you will be just as bald as if you'd never taken it. This is why there's a myth saying it causes balding.
@@Khomann how come beards stay but hairs don’t. Sorry if it seems like a stupid question, it probably is
@@497davidtj nah you're fine. Beard hair follicles and head hair follicles are different from one another. It seems like the only hair on the human body that goes away with DHT is on the top of the head. Not sure why it evolved that way, but it did lol. Most body hair actually gets thicker with DHT.

I couldn't grow a beard until after 30. I was told in my 20s that my downy patchy facial hair wouldn't get any better. How wrong they were. It got thicker in my 40s and now thicker for the last 5 years. My father could grow a good beard, which became apparent when he couldn't shave any more. His father could grow a good beard but he never had one.
That honestly really helps, I’m 18 years old and I’m constantly fearing that I may never be able to grow one. I can fill in every part of my face for the most part except for 2 nearly 100% hair free 1 inch patches to the left and right of my chin. Maybe one day I’ll be able to fill it in! :)

I was a late bloomer. I still have very little body hair. In my mid 20's, all I could muster was a thin moustache connected to a small goatee. My entire cheeks and neck were smooth. Now the front of my beard is very dense and filled in. My sideburn area is much thinner.
I've been able to grow a beard since I was 14 but it wasn't super full until like 25. Seems to me, my beard gets better the older I get. I'm 28 now, so if you're having trouble just stick it out. It'll work out eventually. Don't smoke, eat healthy, exercise and treat your skin right. It'll come.

Thx bro I have peach fuzz on my cheeks with a little bit of long hairs I have a mustache and chin hair so my plan was to just be patient and let the peach fuzz grow out in hopes of getting a beard
I started growing facial hair at the age of 11, but it was peach fuzz at the time. I rocked a goatee for the longest since all I could grow was a decent mustache and chin beard; although, until I hit 26 is when I reached a full thick beard 🧔🏻
I recommend a healthy diet rich in protein and regular exercise for a full looking beard. I take multivitamin for men which contain essential vitamins that I wouldn’t receive through food alone.
Im starting to get hairs under my jaw line is that a good sign ?
Diet, exercise , protein etc dont make any difference..Its your genetics..

@Someone who's harnessed the gravity No that doesnt work im 51 and been on 500 mg ofvtest a week on and off for about a year...
No, it’s NOT testosterone. The hormone that causes beard growth is DHT, a metabolized version of testosterone. You can have a lot of testosterone, and still no beard. @Someone who's harnessed the gravity
Any man can grow a beard. Full stop. Look into derma rolling and different serums. If you're balding, there are unfortunately very few options. The cool thing about beard hair as opposed to scalp hair is if you put the work in, you can actually increase density and even low density/patchy areas will start to look decent as the hairs get longer. If you've ever been curious, you owe it to yourself to try. Just remember since our genetics are worse, don't expect a full beard in 3 weeks, but if you tough it out through the scraggly phase for 2-3 months and TAKE CARE OF IT: Diet, exercise, wash, oil it, brush it out, stimulate blood flow, etc. you will see your true potential.
Just wanted to encourage anyone who felt discouraged by his focus on genes. Genes make it easy but if you don't have 'em, you just gotta put in the work.

@@user-xb4cr1ym4f yeah man it’s usually an age thing. Both my dad and my grandfather can grow big beards but at 22 mine is still a bit patchy. The guy in this video was explaining it wrong your beard growth is actually caused by an androgen called dht(Dihydrotestosterone) which derives from the hormone testosterone. Dht is responsible for beard growth and overall body hair but is actually the cause of losing head hair hence why most young men with full beards lose their head hair. This androgen isn’t thought to be efficiently converted until about 25 for most males but for most late boomers it’s actually a good thing because you tend to keep a full head of hair and eventually can grow a beard.
@@user-xb4cr1ym4f how’s it going this time lol

thats the beard i want, this man is a beard legend, starting today
My friends dads beard filled in well into his 30s. As a society, we seem to have clear cut thoughts about when hair growth begins and ends, but it’s clearly nuanced and varies vastly between individuals
I‘m mid thirties and it‘s still coming in and getting better.
Mine wasn't great until I got into my 30s but it's decent enough although getting quite grey at the age of 47. My Dad had a good beard so I always felt hopeful even though my growth was quite poor in my early 20s.
I was growing one when I was 16 but it was super patchy, but over time of shaving and lubing, my beard is connected to everything but my stash with a few patches so i picked up a kit to help stimulate those patches, 19 and almost have a beard
Facial started growing since i was 16 , now im actually commited and after "about" two months of waiting with minor trims, i'm rocking decently sized van dyke style beard.
I started noticing baby hairs grow around my face when I was around 33. Now I am 38 and I am starting to notice more hairs around my face. Its definitely getting thicker . Just gotta let it keep growing and be patient.
Dehydro-testosterone and genetics play a big role when it comes to beard growth. Guess I am a late bloomer.

Super informative video. Genetics, ethnicity and even biological circumstances within a particular individual are key markers in beard growth. I personally can grow a full beard, but it’ll take me about 6 months for it to thicken up, whereas my brother can grow a thick one in a month or so. I’m the “one-chest-hair” guy and my brother is covered in hair lol thanks again
Repent and trust in Jesus. we deserve Hell for our sins. For example lying, lusing, saying God's name as a cuss word and stealing our just some examples of sin which we can all admit to doing at least one of those. For our sin we deserve death and Hell, but there is a way out. Repent anf trust in Jesus and you will be saved. Repentence is turning from sin. So repent and trust in Jesus. He will save you from Hell, and instead give you eternal life in Heaven.

most of the men in my family shave, but my late maternal grandfather had a magnificent beard, and my younger brother has an impressive beard but is losing his hair, I am in my early 30s and am only now growing a full beard since my patches between my cheeks and goatee have filled in. thankfully I'm now carrying a considerably thicker beard and looking forward to growing it out over the next few months.
I was able to grow a fairly good beard at 16, and years later now I am capable of growing a very good beard. Looking back at 1800s pictures of my ancestors, they all had thick beards!
I started shaving when I was 13 . As a teen I had more than average body hair. I’m 16 months in growing a full natural beard. Yes my father used to have a big beard too. And I’m 36 now. So all these factors are in my favour for growing a big bushy beard. 👍

My greatest fear is to once go bald. I wasn't allowed to grow my hair out until I was 15, so since than I haven't cut it short.. the thing is that I've grown a tremendous amount of chest hair and my beard has been coming in the last few years but having a high widows peak doesn't really help my case..

36 years old here. My beard growth is like an average 20 year old. Lots of bearded men in my family. I guess I can see a little improvement from when I was 24. Maybe I should just wait till I'm 60 and maybe it catches up. But it's taking it's time
Late bloomer here. My old man is 45 years old or so and has a nice beard if he let's it grow out but to be honest for him I believe he didn't grow a nice beard until his 30s. It's kind of what I feel is in store for me. I'm 26 and it certainly getting thicker so I'm sure by my 30s I'll rock a nice beard
Full moustache by 12, very little beard with no cheek hair by 18. Slowly started getting more hair by 20 until I got a full beard by 30, cheeks still hasn't filled in fully but there's a lot now. Don't lose hope, and don't rush your growth.

Suddenly started sprouting a thick beard. But yeah, I get the hairy-all-over bit you mentioned about.
Yeah, I’m 26 and I’m finally getting more comfortable with my beard. It’s starting to grow thicker and I’ve let it grow for 3 months then trimmed like half an inch off and regretted it. It’s been a month since then and I’m more comfortable with it. I’m gonna let it grow for about a year or so and see how it goes.

I guess I'm lucky. I'm 17 and my stubble is able to form a beard though there are two spots on my face having little to no hair on both the left and right end of my upper chin. I also had a moustache at the age of 14 so I might have a Viking beard by the age of 25.
My dad got a full beard like yours at 15 and I'm 13 and I've got a good little beard starting to grow

I had a thick mustache in my teens, and grew a full beard in my 20's, but later in life, I grew a beard again, and for some reason I now had a quarter sized bald spot on my left cheek. Did you know that we must repent of our sins? Also, do you understand what sin is scripturally? Sin is transgression of the Law, 1John 3:4.
We must also believe on The Master YAHUSHA and receive the covering and witness of YAHUSHA. We must also trust and obey YAHUSHA.
What is the law? The law is the first five books of the bible.
Yes, faith saves you. But did you know that TRUE faith will produce obedience? If we have genuine faith, we will obey YAHUAH’S law (TURAH) and we will repent (which means to turn away from our sins and stop sinning willfully.) If we ignorantly stumble into sin (remember that sin is the transgression/breaking of His laws) and trust in the Master YAHUSHA, He will forgive us. Favour is what allows us to be the men and women that YAHUAH the Father in Heaven called us to be. It allows us to obey through His Set-Apart (Holy) Ruach (Spirit). 🙂

Take care of what you have and do the least amount of shaving as possible. Trimming is cool but if you sees by type of hair at all DO NOT SHAVE. Take care of those hairs like you got a full beard and in a years time your patches will fill in. Last year my face didn’t connect at all and today it’s connected. I'm very hairy, hair on the shoulders and back for example, even toes and stuff. I just don't think it's my time yet, below my jawline it's looking pretty good, but the more up the lesser the beard gets. I hope it will fill in in the next 3 years. I'm 20 currently.
I grew a beard a couple times from my twenties on but rarely because they never looked good until they got long enough. Stubble looked fine but not a short to medium. Too patchy and thin in a couple places. After 50 still had that problem until I used minoxidil on my beard. I barely used it but it seemed to do the trick. Now I grow one about every year short or long.
I can't even connect my moustache, dude! 😆
So I'm 16, I have a beard growing on my chin neck and sideburns but very few hairs on my cheeks, all the males in my family have ace beards!!! I hope this means that I will be able to grow one out. (:
Yep, when I was 16 I had a nice mustache and goatee and grew sideburns which turned into a chin strap when I was 17. My dad and older brother have a full beard. I’m 18 now and have a full connecting beard. You’re on track to having a full beard too try working out if you have the time too to help speed up the process.
@@chrizze5062 I'm 25 and can't grow one !
"are you old enough?" 100% truth. I really didn't start shaving on a regular basis until I was 23. Now I could shave about every three days, but I shave once a week because that's when it becomes itchy.
I'm 22, and I have a pretty thick, dark beard but it doesn't grow on my cheeks. Goatee, jawline, neck, and sideburns, but nothing on the cheeks. My father can only grow a goatee, so evolution made a little step forward with me lol. I embrace it tho, looks like i trim it on purpose and get a lot of compliments.
Yours is incredible 😩😩😩
To all those 17 year olds etc waiting patiently. I’m 29 now and I keep a beard cause it grows too fast to want to cut everyday. I like it anyways, but that’s more of a testament to how thick etc it is now. I didn’t have presentable mustache til 22 or so hahaha. Keep patient.
I had no idea Andy Stapleton had a beard channel all this time. This guy is incredible. Probably has a phd in beard growing
I have a decent beard and i'm still watching this video
Wait a minute, you rub your buddies back with sunscreen?
Seriously am I the only one who noticed that
@@N.dlr_sparky ain’t that weird man, if you’re an adult and so insecure about your sexuality you can’t help a brother out YIKES.

I’m 16 and I currently have a little bit of sideburns and I’m starting to get peach fuzz on my shin. My dad had a beard a little shorter than this guy. He can grow a full beard in 3 days. Everyone in my family grew a beard around my age 16-17. So I’m hoping I’m close
Same dude, I’m also hairs as hell everywhere else I just want a beard
I had trouble growing a full beard until I was in my late thirties or thereabouts. So, for some, like me, it can be much later. Probably rarer like that but it shows you never know for sure.
So compared to my grandfather and father, I’m relatively hairy. My pubes, my underarms, my crack, however I do not have much chest hair. I have a decent amount especially down around my belly button as well but it isn’t very think or long. I do have facial hair and as of right now I’m 18. My facial hair isn’t full or dark (particularly because I’m blonde) but my grandfathers and father both are able to grow beards. I believe after watching this video I’m just not at the right age. But I will continue to make good facial care choices and keep my testosterone and high protein diets up
21 & I have decent face coverage. I’ve got really REALLY fine hair on my head and seems like it runs in the family. Beard seems to grow in the same, really light in the early stages but as it lengthens out it’ll appear darker and fuller. My sideburns are actually finer than the hair on my head so there’s this transition from the thicker beard hairs to the thin sideburns 💀💀. Cheeks grow in slower than my jawline, chin, and stache so it does take a long time of trimming to keep it all even so I don’t have a long and messy jawline but nothing filling in.
For anyone who has beard hair but it’s thin or light, the only way to combat it is growth & time. Give it a few months to fill out and get some length, then when it’s long enough to manipulate you can cover patches and brush it evenly to get a clean look regardless of how patchy or light it is.
I second this comment
I was sure I'd be a solid beardy. My dad always had rock solid facial hair, and my brother had a solid beard at 16. Me though, not even close. It was extremely sparse until I was 30, and then became just sparse enough to not make for a good beard. It's very frustrating. I can grow a great moustache though, strangely enough. That comes in full and thick. It gives me have hope that my beard will continue to fill out more throughout my life. So maybe I'll be a Santa one day.
Sometimes it takes time I am 24 & I have a solid stache, and an alright soul patch that almost goes down and connects like a goatee but not quiete yet. I have a lot of little hairs sprouting on the sides of my face which gives me hope to growing a beard. I like my goatee tho I’m happy I’m able to grow that
I'm 21, can grow a decent mustache and hair around my jaw and chin(though a bit patchy). Meanwhile my cheeks are having trouble, a few patches of hair after a month or two. I really wanted to try for a beard now just need that push to fill the big patches
I had my beard down to my belly button after 2 years. I realised it wasn't growing anymore so I shaved it and started again. I know that sounds weird but part of what makes having a beard so awesome is watching it grow lol.
🧢
My dad has no body hair. He can't grow thick hair on chest, hand and even his armpit have thin hair. He has amazing and thick beard. I fall into same category. My dad grew his first beard at age of 26 so I'm hoping to get beard at that age.
That's interesting! stick with it, be patient and I am sure that you'll be able to grow a beard like your dad!
I'm like your dad and you
My dad grew a beard at 16 very close to 17. He can grow a full on bush in like 5 days lol. All of my family ( makes ) can easily grow huge beards so hopefully I can grow one
Everybody is different. When I was 25 I just started getting a chin strap. I am now 30 years old and I’m just now starting to grow a more fuller thicker beard.
They should make a video for teens like before we have a beard we wnna know if we could at some point
Testosterone level isn’t a factor in beard coverage - it’s simply genetics. The shape and thickness is part of your individual face. All beards are natural and you just need to embrace whatever shape, colour and texture you have. I think too many give up because it doesn’t cover their entire face. Guys with thin beards can look better than guys with bushy beards. You just need to own it.
Honestly, this is a very good take on the matter
My dad has a huge beard but I can't grow one and I'm 22
Of course testsoterone matters, you could have all the genes in the world for a good beard but the testosterone (and DHT) are what provide the fuel for it, without that you have nothing and some men are testosterone deficient for a myriad of reasons. I get what people mean, since all the testosterone in the world won't do anything if you lack the genes orthe follicles but it is simply wrong to say testosterone has nothing to do with it.
@@unknown81360 Your mother probably did something she shouldn't. 🤣
I’m 25 and I’m just not growing a decent beard. Waited a long time for this
I did it thanks alot 1 year growth full beard
my father was bald and bearded, my grandfather too, well, I think I will also be
I'm 16 y/o and I can get a pretty good beard. It's not faint at all it's pretty clear and noticable, but it's not yet full. it's all like half an inch. I'm latino and my classmates aren't, so i'm one of the few students with a beard.
Same here
I've got pretty decent growth everywhere but my cheeks which really annoys me. Basically looks like I've cut out the cheeks. Also bit of a patch under the chin sort of on the neck, can't see it straight on though. Only 19 but I think it looks good enough to keep going and maintain.
I started shaving at 13 when some patches started coming in but I found it had filled out when I stopped shaving during the summer when I was 16.. the beard is nice, but I'd trade it for a full head of hair and no body hair 😅
