If you have ever worn sandals, you have probably had the little plug in front rip out on you. Usually it happens at a inopportune time... Because of these experiences, sandals don't usually top the list for adventure footwear.
Having said that, I have been really impressed with these Cairn Adventure Sandals by Bedrock Sandals. They are comfortable, stable and have just enough "meat" to them that they allow you to step over the knife edge rocks and boulders without feeling like you have a 2"x4" strapped to your foot. They have served me well hiking, backpacking, and just around town.
