Saw Tom early 70's at Shabboo. Never paid a cover to see any band, was poor, paid the cover - probably 3 bucks - fo00r Waits. Amazing. Nnighthawks at the Diner. Tom on piano and guitar playing the best sound I ever heard. Drank the 2 beers I could afford and never forgot that night of seeing true genious at work.
He's a local. I see him at cafés and around town. Saw him taking his grown kids to the clinic last month. I just nod and wave. He's shy. So am I. Never saw him play. 😮❤
@zoop2132. I’ve been a fan since the mid 80’s and about 15 years ago I had the chance of seeing him live. They wanted £250 so I gave it a miss and I wasn’t even poor.
His wife, the writer, Kathleen Brennan, has co-written almost every song with Waits since the late 70's and *many* of his lyrics. It's important to remember that. Waits said that Brennan wrote 90% of the lyrics to "Yesterday is Here", just for one example. Waits didn't become truly great until Brennan started co-writing with him. Not saying Waits isn't brilliant, but - it's literally an Elton John/Bernie Taupin situation.
Cool song. It hurts by reminding that yesterday never comes again. So funny, we all strive for a better future but eventually listen to Tom Waits and cry.
My first introduction to Tom was in the 70s when myself and a friend were working alone after hours making holiday decorations for the store. We were sitting on tge floor working and talking until this strange song came over the radio. We both stopped what we were doing and said"what did he just say?" It was " The piano has been drinking" . The next day I ran out and got his album. Being from New Jersey, his version of "Jersey Girl" will be payed at my funeral. Love, love this Man,please don't ever stop making music. ❤❤❤
I saw him on the Old Grey Whistle test in the 70's. when I was in the band van going to a gig , i said; 'did you see that Tom Waits on the OGWT last night?'. 'Yes' they said, 'what a load of crap.' (we were a cover pop band... I'd been out and nought the heart of Saturday Night album! Always include a tom song in my set, after all these years!
Tom Waits’ 'Yesterday is Here' hits that perfect blend of melancholy and grit. His voice, paired with that bluesy, almost haunting melody, makes you feel like you’re sitting in a smoky, dimly lit bar at the end of the world. It’s a song that reminds you of both past regrets and a lingering hope, with that timeless Waits touch. Pure magic. The balck and white video fits perfectly to this mood.
Chanced to see him in a concert hall in early 1976. He was the opening act Great show. Immediately became a fan. His music continued to evolve, year after year.
Filmed in regional Queensland, as the ABC logo, colonial architecture and - giveaway of all - ad for Great Northern beer show. Cheers, Tom, didn't know you were down this way. 🎼🍺
Tom Waits - Yesterday Is Here If you want money in your pocket and a top hat on your head a hot meal on your table and a blanket on your bed well today is grey skies tomorrow is tears you'll have to wait til yesterday is here Well I'm going to New York City and I'm leaving on a train and if you want to stay behind and wait til I come back again well today is grey skies tomorrow is tears you'll have to wait til yesterday is here If you want to go where the rainbows end you'll have to say goodbye all our dreams come true baby up ahead and it's out where your memories lie well the road's out before me and the moon is shining bright what I want you to remember as I disappear tonight today is grey skies tomorrow's tears you'll have to wait til yesterday is here
This combination of Tom Waits+ a hobo makes me think of the extended version (more than 1hr) of "Jesus blood never failed me yet" by Gavin Bryars. I suggest its listening to those who appreciate moderation and slowly builded feelings through music, to whom can spend a part of life in plain relax.
1986, just out of the deep mountain sticks, somebody gave me a Rain Dogs tape. I was horrified. And I kept putting that fucking tape in the boombox for some godforesaken reason. Then, like how alcohol first got me, I find myself laying out hard earned Baskin Robbin’s $3.35 an hour cash for Swordfishtrombone. It still pisses me off. It’s like having something stabbing my heart and I just want more.
Throughout the 1980s and 90s i was a fan but not any more haven't given him a listen for 27 years. Captain beefheart and the magic band is still awesome and the Shaggs is very beautiful harmonies lyrics musicianship. Strip to the core. Not much for Zappa we all know he was copying everything that Don was doing.
Hey Piscatoris, great visuals! Is that in Queensland? Video matches the vibe of this great song perfectly! Also you look like my brother! Peace and love from Bavaria to Down Under!
Yes , Central Queensland. Have been living on the road for sometime . Been recovering from a triple heart bi pass under that very fig tree . Your bother must be a good looking bloke LOL. Love and peace Piscatoris

He's a hell of a drinking buddy.

Been listening to this genius and his genius wife for 50 years. I wish he would do just one more tour.🥰
I don’t think he really co-wrote those songs with Kathleen, probably more of a tax-dodge.
tomorrow is gone. yesterday is all I got left to look forward to... (been listening to Tom for forty years, and three months... just did the math. )
One of our best storytellers ever. Thank you Tom for 50+ years of laughs and tears.

Tom Waits "For No One". This has got to be an album title.
Over thirty years ago, a gentleman named Jason Stocker introduced me to Tom Waits. STILL intrigued by him.
Thanks Jason.❤❤❤😊😊😊

Tom Waits - Yesterday Is Here
If you want money in your pocket
and a top hat on your head
a hot meal on your table
and a blanket on your bed
well today is grey skies
tomorrow is tears
you'll have to wait til yesterday is here
Well I'm going to New York City
and I'm leaving on a train
and if you want to stay behind and
wait til I come back again
well today is grey skies
tomorrow is tears
you'll have to wait til yesterday is here
If you want to go
where the rainbows end
you'll have to say goodbye
all our dreams come true
baby up ahead
and it's out where your memories lie
well the road's out before me
and the moon is shining bright
what I want you to remember
as I disappear tonight
today is grey skies
tomorrow's tears
you'll have to wait til yesterday is here
Thanks
Благодарю, друг.
The clip of him with Iggy Pop in the cafe drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes is a must see for any fan of Tom Waites.
