👏👏👏👍🎉 congrats overcoming obstacles. my dad went to jail 1992 My mom had ran an illegal daycare to pay the bills, I was about 13 but I ended up watching all the kids along with my 1yr old sister while my mom took naps in her room because she was so depressed losing our home, cars, and husband. after my dad got out of jail he was depressed and O.D. on heroin. After H.S. I slept on the floor in my brother's tv repair shop for months but later on things worked out finally for me after I moved to Florida which is cheaper to live. Now thank God for UA-cam and Google Adsense I'm saving for a house to buy for my fam. So sometimes it's best to leave behind anchors in your life so you can stay afloat and sail away into the sunset ⛵.

I went to a covenant house when my parents kicked me out after they found out I was raped. They are very religious and blamed me for being raped and no longer being a virgin and forced me out of the house for “disrespecting God”. I found Covenant House after I went to a service looking for help from the Lord. Covenant house made me feel so safe and at home, and the people there were such a strong family to me. I’ve invited 2 of my greatest friends from there to my house for this Thanksgiving, and I hope everyone out there knows that you are not alone. So many people go through the same things as you. And sometimes your biological family may not be your true family when it comes to supporting you or being there for you. Covenant house (or any shelter in general) is a great place to go if you don’t have a home or feel as though your current one is not the best for you. Find your true families that will make you happy and thankful for everything. Happy thanksgiving everyone!❤️
    Update:
Hi everyone. I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving! I enjoyed mine, it was so great to see my friends from covenant house and catch up with them, seeing how they are now. Both of them are out of the shelter and happily living their lives (in fact one of them recently started dating someone!). While I was away from my phone for the holiday this comment got a lot of attention. I’m thankful you guys were so appreciative and supportive of my story. There are a lot of different questions/comments I’ve gotten and I’ve decided I’m going to answer a few of those here so I won’t have to reply to each person individually.
    1. I’ve gotten a lot of comments saying my parents are jerks, and so I’d just like to clear up that although I don’t agree with them kicking me out, I get that they don’t really understand what I went through. My parents were/are very adamant on abstinence, which for anyone who doesn’t know is basically not having sex before you are married. I prayed on it a lot during my time in the house, and I forgive my parents, but at this moment in my life I’m not very keen on trying to have a good relationship with them. In fact they have reached out to me in recent years but I don’t think I’m ready to see them in person. I have been in contact with my siblings though, and they say that my parents feel bad and regret what they did (especially now that there’s been all that news about rape and molesting in churches).
    2. I’ve also gotten a lot of comments saying I’m a liar? And I’m sure that many of them are just trolls but I’d also like to clear some stuff up about that. First, I’m actually a boy (I noticed many comments calling me she/her and just thought I’d make that clear). It happened when I was 14, and at the time I didn’t even know what sex was, my parents only told me it was bad, and not to do it until marriage. I went to these teen bible studies every Friday and they were hosted by some college students at a local university. I was very close to one of the college students, he was like an older brother to me, helping me with my problems and helping me to strengthen my relationship with God. Until it happened. When I finally had the strength to tell my parents about it they didn’t really care about that I was raped. They were too focused on 1. I wasn’t a virgin and therefore wasn’t “pure in the eyes of God” and 2. That I was a guy who was raped by another guy (and so they accused me of being gay.) Personally I was very disgusted and saddened by some of the comments saying that I deserved it or that it was my fault, as well as the comments that said that I’m lying and that I willingly had sex with him. Are you seriously going to sit there and tell me that 14 year old me willingly had sex with an adult? It’s cause of people like you that make it so hard for kids to tell their parents what happened to them. I spent so many months in that house blaming myself for what happened. But it’s no one’s fault except for the man responsible.
I would just like to thank everyone again for listening to my story. This is actually a tragic truth of many kids around the country and the world. Many children are raped each year but are too scared to say anything. So if there is anyone out there reading this who’s going through what I went through, you are not alone. You are cared for and appreciated and I know that it can be difficult to confront what happened to you, but it’s only through that path that you can heal yourself and find peace and comfort.

I appreciate the moral of the story but there are a lot more ways to look at this than just "Work hard and don't give up." Way to sound like my conservative old grandpa. Are we going to just pretend like it had NOTHING to do with being born brilliant? She had like two hours a day to do homework, hard work ain't gonna cut it if you are stupid. Also, let's just skip half her entire childhood in another country, and pretend like being the valedictorian negates a lifetime of emotional abuse. Also the fact that her child is being mostly raised by strangers, like literally all but 3 hours a day.
I guess it's easy to be optimistic when your whole life was shit, but for the last two years things went OK
